are ant farms fun to play with?

Haha, not really. You occasionally get a colony of ants that will be interesting, but for the most part, it's just sand and ants...
Big critter Keeper myself, almost exclusively inverts-
I'd actually recommend a Beetle habitat, they can be quite interesting, and safe to interact with as well.
Also, most Beetles don't mind to live together, so you can have a nice variety-like almost everything else, there are "exotic" species, Blue Feigning Death beetles(they play dead), etc, and it can be a neat hobby.
For weird pet fun, tho, nothing beats a Tarantula...

@adam242 In retrospect, not at all. I mean, I think I would have liked the 400 if I had got that, but I don't regret buying that VIC one bit.
As a matter of fact, I think it's my favorite computer I've ever owned. And that's impressive for a 40 year old computer with 5k of RAM and a 1mhz CPU.

www.commodoreage.com leads to AtariAge! (Found while searching for www.*videogame company*.com)

Why do people think E.T. is the worst game ever? It's definitely noooooot!

I think it's a mix of expectations vs. reality, plus the coincidence of the timing. E.T. was HUGE when it came out, so the hype was extremely high, making the sub-par gameplay a much bigger disappointment. Couple that with the market in America going wonky right around that time too, and you get the pieces of a myth that grabs the imagination: "Behold, the game so bad it almost killed videogames!" Not true, but it makes a great story, so people kept telling it.
For a modern take, see No Man's Sky.

I mean, it is a pretty ingenious puzzle/scavenger hunt game, and the graphics are pretty good too. If it weren't for the inescapable pits and wonky collision detection, I think it would be praised more. I think the problem is, most 2600 fans were still just into shooters and dot eaters to really get into the adventure game style of it.
I bet if they made it a Maze/dot eater game and tied in the marketing with Reese's Pieces, it would have been a huge hit, despite the fact that it had nothing to do with the damn movie at all.

Why did the 5200(even the peripherals) have to be so big?
