Been playing Twilight Princess lately. Not sure what to think of it yet though. So far it hasn’t been particularly fun but it isn’t annoying either.
-
Yeah. So far I’ve only beaten the first dungeon and reached the second (entered a fire area with a wooden shield; D’oh!)
The first dungeon however has to be the easiest one I’ve played. The map showed all the monkeys I had to find and the route to getting there was very easy. It didn’t have any “secret areas” like beneath the Great Deku Tree in Ocarina. It didn’t have a cool boss like Skyward Sword. Speaking of which, the boss was very easy.
So yeah, nothing was annoying, but nothing was really fun either. I’m hoping it improves as the game goes along.

Successfully softmodded my Switch. It was a much more difficult and frustrating process than modding my Wii U, but I eventually got it done. My large supply of jumper wires certainly helped.
-
Not if I take precautions, no. I don’t play anything online (mainly because I don’t have NSO but also because I’m pretty much only into single player stuff) and I’m not installing any further system updates (this one not because I’m worried about a ban but because newer OSes aren’t supported by CFWs yet). I have updated games (both legitimate and pirated ones) and saw no issues.

Just ran into a middle aged man smoking in the middle of the path from home to school where countless students pass by each day. What an asshole.

I find it equally easy not to smoke. Let´s say it is equally easy, then.
But, seriously, if I were you I would call my doctor and make an appointment. Tell him/her you want to quit smoking. You will be given a set of instructions, and will probably succeed in quitting smoking.
I would also recommend reading The Easy Way To Stop Smoking by Allen Carr. It is great for motivating you to quit smoking. It worked for my dad, it just wasn´t enough.
-
No problem.
Maybe you have been trying to quit too fast. If you smoke say 20 cigarettes per day. How about reducing it to 19 per day for a week? Then 18 per day for a week, and so on until it is down to 0 per day.
It would probably be a good idea to have the last cigarette right before you go to bed, so you don´t have problems falling asleep.

Think I fried a MC1372. I don’t know how, but the chip gets hot very quickly, so yeah. Thing is, I have a spare somewhere, but I’m not sure where. I thought I’d put it in my bin o’ chips, but it isn’t there.

It appears that the $2 AliExpress carbon contact paste worked beautifully. PET’s keyboard is completely operational now.
-
Used this stuff, although I remember it being cheaper when I bought it. AliExpress prices seem to fluctuate randomly. A downside to these is that the stuff dries too quickly, making it difficult to tell if a coat has been applied to the contact or not. I recommend you use a soft brush. Also: Shit, just noticed the V key isn’t quite working yet. Now I gotta unscrew 12 philips head screws and 3 billion tiny flathead screws and desolder the shift lock switch and repaint the key and repeat that in reverse order. Sounds like fun.

Fun fact: A Link to the Past is one of the few Zelda games where Link does not go to the past.

Currently in the process of porting WozMon to my 6502 computer. It's a remarkably simple yet usable operating system, at least, to those that know the 6502. Once that's done I'll probably begin looking into porting Integer BASIC to the computer and eventually a Lua like language. I'll post a blog entry on this after I make some progress.

I just got my IA license in the original Gran Turismo, and, well, it’s one of the most difficult things I’ve accomplished in a video game. Playing on a keyboard is an absolute nightmare.

I have a blue PSone dualshock laying around, but I’m not sure if a USB adapter would work with the hardware I’m running on (Powermac G4, OS9). I know there are X360 controller drivers for PPC Macs but they’re for OSX.
The keyboard controls, while tricky to use, is far from unusable. I’ll probably stick to it until I can find one of those Gravis USB controllers from the late 90s that will for sure work with the Mac.
The original Gran Turismo feels like a work in progress version of GT2. The menus are bland and it’s missing key features that are present in every other GT game. It’s not a bad game, don’t get me wrong, but it’s just the least best GT.
-
Not much, that’s why I think there’s no reason to play GT1 if you’re given the choice to play GT2. GT1 is like the same game but worse. More cars, more races, more variety. However, GT2 was a rushed game and it feels like a rushed game. But I think this isn’t a big enough problem to choose GT1 over it.

Gotta love it when you suggest using a search engine to someone who asks people for absolutely everything and what you get in return is a bunch of angry but not quite comprehensible words.

I asked Bing why the 7800 was discontinued. What I didn't expect was for it to reference a post of mine right at the top of the results:
I'm an SEO genius, apparently.

My Powermac G4 is back in business! I booted off a USB drive and reinstalled OS 9.2.2 on the hard drive that I assumed to be dead. Works just fine now. I also had it set up for internet, although it’s not a very pleasant experience. Seriously, even Wikipedia won’t work! Still, Macintosh Repository works fine (even recognizes that I’m accessing the site from an old Mac) and using my USB floppy drive, it’s a somewhat better bridge machine to my SE than my Windows machine.
Meanwhile, I’m having fun playing PS1 games again. This quickly became my go-to method of playing PS1 games as my actual PS1 just won’t work reliably.

I meant the majority of broadband routers tend to have NAT, DHCP and firewall features, at least only let through known ports like 80 etc. Sure if drive by browser hijacking occurs, the router does nothing compared to a more sophisticated software based firewall that has more advanced rules. But at least it should stop random incoming or outgoing port sniffing.

Yeah, if you use MSIE 4 or even 5, you virtually get nowhere on the Internet today, mainly because most sites use https with SSL schemes those browsers don't support. Even back when Windows Update still supported 98SE, you could not connect to the service because it used MSIE and in its turn, Microsoft's servers had been updated to newer protocols.
There is something called KernelEx (third party) that lets you run some 2000/XP applications on 98, including a few web browsers but then again even the ones supporting XP have been obsoleted by now so you might find yourself stuck anyway.

@RetroSonicHero What, isn’t Sonic with Homer Simpson’s face not the best thing you’ve ever seen? ?

Found a very interesting IBM PS/55 laptop that looks like it’s from the 386 era for sale locally. Too bad it looks like a dog ate it and barfed it out…

Fun fact: “Korobeiniki” (the Tetris theme) was used in Spectrum Holobyte’s Macintosh version of Tetris, and this version predates the Gameboy one by a year. I wonder if any earlier Tetris ports featured this music?

I’m starting to love the Gameboy more and more. Link’s Awakening and the Oracle games are just too fun.

So, a bunch of chips I ordered from AliExpress arrived. A five 65C02s, 6 6522s, 3 AY-3-8910s, 2 MC6847s, two MC1372s, and some EEPROMs. I tested the 65C02s with my PET, the 6522s with my VIC-20, and the EEPROMs with my TL866. Most of them tested fine.
Anyways, I wanted to test the MC6847 with my CoCo 2, until I noticed that it was soldered, not socketed. I desoldered it only to realize that I didn’t have a DIP-40 socket laying around. Soldering the 6847 back was the most frustrating and painful thing I’ve done this year.
I did gather enough components to build the video circuitry though. I’ll test it soon.

The Rick Astley Paradox -
If you ask Rick Astley for a DVD or BlueRay of the Movie "Up", he wont give it to you as he's never going to give you UP.
However by not giving you Up, he is letting you down, thus creating the Astely Paradox.
He cannot get around this by killing you to eliminate the paradox, because he will NEVER hurt you, he also can't lie about it as he's NEVER gonna tell a lie. He also cannot simply leave as he's both NEVER gonna desert you nor say goodbye. He must also avoid making you cry. He also cannot deny the paradox purely illogically, as he knows the rules, and so do I. (Stolen from the interwebs, but funny).

The $18 AliExpress HDMI to DVI adapter is so far excellent. I’m using a bunch of HDMI devices through a selector box (powered by the Wii U) through the HDMI to DVI adapter (also powered by the Wii U) to a pocket size amp for audio, a DVI to VGA adapter into my huge Samsung SyncMaster 927MB CRT for video. I’ve only tested this ridiculous setup with my Wii U, but hopefully my Switch, Mac G4, and XSX would be willing to cooperate.
The picture itself is spectacular. I’ve only managed to take one good picture of the screen, the loading screen of Wind Waker HD. However, the picture is incredibly sharp, and the colors are super vibrant. Only complain is the low refresh rate that seems to be caused by the DVI to VGA adapter; there is noticeable flickering, although it’s not so bad that I can’t ignore it.

@carlsson it’s the camera’s exposure making it look bright. In reality the room was almost completely dark and the glow was dim. I’m using a power transformer and I switch them off when I’m not using them. It was not getting power at all when I took that picture.

I beat thunderblight ganon after about 15 tries. The first truly challenging boss battle in botw so far.

A Volkswagen Type 1 is what most Americans know as the Beetle from 1949 to 1980. The Beetle was made in Mexico for the Mexican and South American market until 2003.
The VW Type 2 is the bus. Also know as the Transporter and in other various configurations such as a pickup truck. The Type 2 was made from 1967 to 1979 for Europe and the American market.
-
That makes things incredibly confusing, as Transporter generations are referred to as T*. The original Transporter, like the one I have, is the T1. Not Type 1, but T1. The next one, the one that the Libyan terrorists drove in Back to the Future, is the T2. The boxy one that had a variant with a Porsche 911 boxer 6 was the T3, so on and so forth.

Repost of my previous status update because it wouldn't embed the video file. Trust me, this is funny.
