  1. Is there any way to duplicate Atari 8bit cassettes (both data and audio tracks)?  Is there any solution to capture both data and audio tracks into modern media .ATR or such?  The main reason I still like an use my cassettes is because of the audio.  As an 8bit community we need to come up with a way to capture and share these jewels before they are all gone due to age and wear.

    800_Rocks,

I have a question to ask.  If you have the time......?

On this side of the pcb.  The inside slide switch.  The trace coming from the end of the 74LS04 chip does it go to anyone of the 3 pins or is the trace cut?

    Does this angle help?

  3. I found one on an online auction.  Here's a link to the post I started.  See pictures over there.

Nezgar I would be very interested in your parts list and instructions on removing the orig battery and adding the new one replaceable one like you did.  Thanks!!

Before I try this in my 800... Any idea what I have here?  What the two switches do?  Is it rare/valuable?

Edit:  Wait... I found this.  I should have searched first :-)

  5. I’m giving a 1040 STE Some TLC.

    1) What version of TOS do I have (pictures) and what’s the best version to upgrade to?  A version that handles years 2000+ would be nice.

    2) She has only 1MB (pictures) where are good sources to purchase 4MB (4x 1M Simms)?  And what specs/speeds are best?

    Existing TOS

  6. Just got a new to me SC 1224 Color monitor today. It was packed well but I can’t get a good image on it.  I show an image the seller took (looks to be working fine). Then how it looks when it arrived (I get a pretty good image but it only takes the middle 3rd of the screen). I tried all the adjustment screws, when I make the image taller, the top half of the screen has big gaps.  Do you know if this is something that can be fixed?  BTW I hooked a good second SC1224 up to the same 1040STE and the image was fine so the ST is doing its job.

    from seller:

best I can get is this image that uses only the middle 3rd of the screen

When I adjust for a taller image the top half has these crazy gaps and there is a bright white bar across the middle.

  7. I had a 1040ST in the late 80's early 90's.  I purchased a very good 1040STfm and SC1224 (color monitor) on eBay, all seems to be working great.

So I have a couple basic questions as I get to know the ST again :-)  Thanks in advance.  Please see the attached picture:

    0) Where can I find good FAQ details about the ST line?

    1) What version of TOS do I have?  How do you tell?

    2) Are these two socketed chips my TOS?

    3) I see the Gotek drive replacement option.  Is there an option that does not require any case cutting?

    4) Is there an external (2nd drive) option for Gotek?

    5) See image of my current floppy.  Can you upgrade to a 1.44MB drive?  If so, what version of TOS would support this?

    6) Is there a TOS that can handle Y2K (dates with years like 2019)?

    7) Is there a real-time clock (RTC) add-on?

8 - Best source for new TOS?

  8. Purchased a 600XL for a great price (a lot of stories start that way)...  I get only a dark green (or black) screen.  Tried two different power bricks (one I know works with an 800XL).
No change in behavior when I press Reset, or hold Option or Select or Help when I cycle the power.  No sounds at all (no beeps, no nothing).

I carefully opened, cleaned, removed and re-installed all socketed chips.  No change in the dark green (or black) screen.

What should I try next?  Try known working chips?  Which ones in which order?

    Thanks

  9. How are you doing now 14 years later? :-)  Did you complete all 79 issues?  I'm on a similar quest.  Let me know if you have any doubles you would part with.  Thanks
