I've never used a sniping service myself, I just wait until there is exactly 7 seconds left on the auction to place my bid; which with my internet connection speed makes the bid always go through 2 to 3 seconds before the auction ends. Not flawless last second bidding, but close enough to do the job in most cases.

Sniping is satisfying because either you beat someone else out of it, or make them pay more than they would have had to otherwise. It's completely evil and fun.

I like bidding for fun. Even if I loose, it drives the prices up. Especially on items I already own that I may sell.
