If Atari had pushed on, Louie could have been their Mario, Scraps could have been their ‘Tails’/‘Sonic’ character...

I tested adding some pixels in Louie's hair to mask where the color changes from the 12-color area to the 3-color area. Not sure if I like it or not. I still kinda like the look of the color change. Thoughts are welcome. If a few people express an opinion preferring it, I'll upload the edit. Based on current downloads, (1), I doubt it'll matter to anyone.
Ha ha, dunno if I should say this, but hair on the left image seems better in one respect, but that may invite to an improved used of blues on Louies sweater...
But some of this is very close to personal taste...

Anyway, is this title-screen now in use both for ‘You-Are-Loiue’ and ‘You-Are-Scraps’ versions, or just ‘You Are Louie’-version...?

Well, - so, this is not an attempt to get people (further) into something they do not have a drive for, but as this thread developed, grew, - and it came to light that we just don’t have a programmer - I began thinking that a Pac-World (yes, using the Bentley Bear Engine, since Bentley Bear is solidly made, throughout quality) could be the thing, and try to include - in new and creative ways - the possible elements/parameters, already given and possible with Bentley Bear.
And... I do think that with novel and creative level-designs, good use of the hat-power-up, level-layouts taking inspiration both from the original Pac-Land (town, forest, mountain, castle), but also adding new concepts like Pac-Maze platform world, etc, - it could become more than just a Bentley-hack.
Why shouldn’t we be able to have Pac-Man run on top of Town Roofs, be able to collect power-pills (ie hats), many times a level, make labyrintine castles, ... and work to get visual of the background to shine as much as Bentley Bear - multiple parallaxes, bright colours, stylized cartoony background and all...?
—
Again, if people here feel its not worth it, it can’t be done etc, I really do respect that, but the above were my ideas concerning where a Pac-World Platformer could have gone.
All good to you all,
And all efforts and constructive inputs have been appreciated; I have learnt stuff, and for me just learning in itself is valuable.

It's controls are simple and easy to understand, and it's not overly difficult like RealSports Baseball and many others. So many baseball games were too complicated for my interest. We'll see if John Champeau's upcoming baseball game can knock this one off the pedestal for me.
Kevin, please make a ‘how-to-play-and-master’-YouTube-video for this game, so the rest of us can get into and enjoy Pete Rose Baseball...

As we learn to cooperate, to share info, experiences, anything - passivily or activily involving the 7800-hardware-system -, how’re things goings as to using the Bentley Bear ‘engine’ to create levels and stages...?

Please, do post a link to the final

...hm, sorry for the astronomical number of typos and wierd ways of spelling... was tired, and my mind divided onto so much else . . . still, I do love pets; keep ‘em safe and do resque them
when needed!

C’mon, - Atari could need a cute and adorable mascot-character [independant of what Atari contemplated in the late 80ies, early 90ies], - who cares if we’d be three decades late...?
-
Dorky guy or super-cute Dog; your choice
- -
give it a fair hearing when time and circumstance allows...!!
just do love pets and cute animals!!

Hi, dunno if you into A7800 hacks, but seen you’ve reviewed KevinMos3 graphic updates before,
So here is link to file of a Hack on Scrapyard Dog where you’re the dog to resque the owner.
I did the initial grfx for the dog, then Kevin adjusted it to fit whitin the sprite-blocks.
Kevin did opening scene, lost-screen, win-screen.
Please preview or review at leisure.

-What is the number background-tiles can use at each level?
Colours for each World (a set of stages using the same tile)
- how many parallaxes each level?
(limitations?)
- how many of TIXs sprites can be used right, left, up, down... (not changing colours or frames),
- how much space left for other things??
-
The best would be if everyone interested in seeing PacMan Platfomer, inspired by PacLand 1984, would work together in the mindset of cooperation, sharing what find to be optimal settings and/or best ways to gets things up and running...
-
But perhaps then, the title-screen should then read:
’Scrapyard Dork’
...duh...

-
I’m actually satisfied with the completed product. . . cart., thing., game., toy, hack, retro-thingie....whatever...
a) we get to be the Doggie,
b) and save the owner ‘Louie’
(who’s quite a bit of a useless, sorry loney-dorky-prat, right?)
c) - yes; it all becomes more like a TV-network cartoon [or more like Sonic than Mario . . . ahem], and silly (up to the level of imbecile) story, silly mission, silly stuff ending on a note of furriness, harmonity, hilarity or pure, stark horror... ( «sawed» - thats like ... who the heck wrote this script??? is it a pure ‘R’ rated
game?? )
- be the furry, cute animal...trying to resque its owner,
[rather than ‘the atari-dork trying to save some dog’]
... or I just say lots of crappy stuff since I think the Dog ‘Scraps’ could or would be a better ‘mascot’ for any system not in sales, not in the-stores anymore, than ‘Louie - the dork-of-dorks of scrapyard-keepers’ - even if I’m like 3 decades too late

you have been our most steady level-designer and is our man on game-set-up...
What grfx, do you feel, you need next?
-
I would be cool if you did a presentation of the most striking differences between the Atari 2600, Atari 7800, and the in-the middle-systems: Atari400/800/XL; which games runs/performed 1:1 on platforms like A5200 or updated versions of older games, which games feels utterly fresh...? Which games could work very well with analogue-controller, and vice versa...

Ok - lets reset and cut through:
I @Giles N and @gambler172 are still interested in doing a hack, that’d hopefully will look and have the feel of a new game...
...none of can do programming, but we a) create some grfx, b ) hack it into established engines, c) work with layout to make it all feel ‘novel’, hoping to use music by @Synthpopalooza,
and wecoming all constructive inputs...
-
Please do post both
a) with normal number of lives
b) with infinite number of lives,
, if you have 2 different versions as to this respect...

However, next time you play through the game, pay attention to the skin color of Louie (if he's a pinkish color or an orange/brown color). I was near the end of the game the other night, but the wife walked in front and caught the cord with her foot and that was that for that playthrough attempt.
So, what’s the exact link to the latest version then?
Please post,
🙂

The wife taking down that cord; some signal !!

Are you planning an update for Scraps-hack anytime soon (fixing the enter-sprite etc), or are you finished with the project for a quite a while?

Where do you get the necessary ‘images’ for NTSC-modes for the A7800?

- whichever way the programming-people & 7800-music-folks decide to take this, - the Delta Force Theme is really worth a listening-through or two...

Cool, but - still - listen to this , I mean purely as to what creates musical intensity of action...:

If you're looking for an emulator with a similar user interface to ProSystem, but better console emulation under Windows, please use bupsystem instead:

Thanks!
The Laptop stationed at my place, is windows, so I’ll try the bupsystem...!

Pete Rose Baseball for 7800 to buy? Can't find anywhere!

I’d still think it would be cool with playthrough-vids with comments on ‘how to play/how to master’.
But good to hear you people enjoy it.
I think many parts of it - presentation and some of the ingame-graphics has this colourful cheerful feel to it.

Ok, note, I’m usually quite lousy at sports-games, so that may be a cause here, but still, generally speaking I think some of the more ‘advanced’ 7800 games could need videos with commentaries, not just on how the game operates but ‘how-to’ master/get through them.
