I’ve seen some YouTube vids about this Donkey Kong PK, having 4 stages and being closer to the Arcade in other respects too. Looks very nice indeed. But where to get it? Or how to get it? Anyone?

What do you think of Video Game Critic’s scores for 7800 games?
Giles N replied to Giles N's topic in Atari 7800
I saw something much cheaper at ebay; looked like an retrogameboyz-thing. Had 2 NES-like direction-buttons: one on the left, one on the right, and buttons in the middle. I can’t find them anymore on ebay, but hope some will produce more. — I also just played it using two retrogameboyz gamepads (which are light and small), and held one in each hand separately. Ok, fair ‘nough, - would be better if connected - but completely playable. If I had been stuck with older American stick-controllers, well, then it would be either glue them onto something or just play with one stick. I don’t find it unplayable with shooting only the direction you move. Just better and adds much more with double controllers. -
And these can be used in 7800 carts of new/homebrew productions?

Anyway, have you reviewed/played Alien Brigade using a light-gun? I’ve had difficulty finding one for the 7800, while easily got one for my SMS, where Space Gun is my favourite light-gun game. I find, using the joypad-control to be good, would imagine using a light-phaser would be even more responsive... If you’ve tried both ways of playing it; do you think the one way is better than the other, or just different? -

I had a go at Desert Falcon a couple of days ago. The thing is to look at the distance between your (falcon) shadow and the shadow of the enemies: when the distance between the enemies and their shadows are the same as the distance between your falcon and his shadow, you’re in line to shoot them. Anyway quickly going either highest up or land/almost-hover above the ground are good ways of holding to a certain line-of-fire. -
So, perhaps it could be an idea for enthusiasts to ‘donate’ and collect such hardware, like to this site? Then, one could have 2 prices for Pokey-games: one with already built-in, and another for buyers who provide Pokey themselves.... Anyway, how easy/difficult is it to obtain the other chips (from arcades or colecovisions)? Are there only a handfull left, or could one easily obtain hundreds? (If anyone knows?)

‘Scavenged’ ha ha Well, y’know, some ol’ consoles are just too damaged to repair in their entirety, so why not look for the parts which may still work and be of use for useable hardware? I see from the store, that certain 7800 titles needs to have this PokeyONE provided for a single cart to be produced... I ordered Bentley Bears Crystal Quest (and looking forward to try it out 🙂 ) from eBay, but if I were to buy it here or any of these other pokey-only-titles, - what would I have to do; order Pokey-chip to my country in Europe (tax and all), then send it to the US for producing a new cart? Man, thats a lot of money and work for hobby-retro-gamer!

I think it’s very smart to produce TIA versions also, since those Pokey chips won’t be available forever, if they’re not produced any longer. Since both Ballblazer and Commando are some of the best games on the 7800, it would be - to a certain degree - understandable that many won’t give them up easily. Could another chip be installed in carts to do similar jobs? Can pokey-chips be extracted from defunct 5200 units and be useable in a 7800 cart? Anyway - if 2 versions can in time be produced, new 7800 game-titles on carts will probably be must easier to get produced in some numbers.

@nosweargamer Have you considered reviewing the 5200 game collection? (If I’ve missed something, and you’ve done 5200 games, sorry). Personally I just love the 5200 and its comparatively small but very interesting game-library. -

What I like about Midnight Mutants is its mix-in of humour: Dr Evil saying self-solemnly ‘vengeance is mine’... followed by the immature statement ‘take that Grampa!’... And when your hero dies, and if you wait a few moments, your hero raises as mutant-zombie and if you push the Grampa-comment-button he will actually say things like ‘you’re dead now, you know, bit of a bummer’ or something in that vein. I just think it takes the genre to level it should be taken: not overtly seriously, but as a thrilling adventure. I’ve only gotten to boss2 yet, but I enjoy the silly comments essentially making it an action-horror-game not taking itself too seriously/not going into all that ‘darker&edgier’-thing. But cannot come to think of very many other titles you could have included from the 7800 at least. -
Looks very promising from the videos! (I’m no programmer; just have retro-gaming as hobby)! Hope you get it polished ‘n finished and put on carts and up for sales! 👍🏻🤛🏻🤲🏻☝🏻👋🏻✌🏻✌🏻

It could be nice to have a list of completed homebrews for the 5200. -

I’ve bought 3 retrogameboyz 7800-controllers for my systems. They play wonderfully if you like the NES-controller design. They are my standard controllers now.

When I have all titles, I hope to arrange them from top to bottom, perhaps with 1-10 scores. Just take some time playing either through these games or playing them a fair bit into them to give them a balanced score.
