  1. I’m also getting new games, and will probably adjust my top 25 list.
  2. The 7800 version, is that a separate title, of part of PacMan collection?
  3. The SMS did quite well in Europe, even though South-America was its ‘success’-region. At ages 9-12 I really, really wanted an SMS (being European), so it was one of the first consoles I bought for my retro-game hobby. I’ve collected a good deal of classics, quality-titles and rarities for the SMS. Afterburner, Out Run, Wonderboy 1-4, Sonic-titles, Space Gun, Operation Wolf, New Zealand Story, Donald and Mickey-games, Monaco GP 2, Out Run 3D, T2 arcade, Rainbow Islands, Bubble Bobble, Gauntlet, Shadow Dancer, Shinobi, Hang On, Power Strike 1 & 2, Ramparts & others looks and plays very well considering its an 8-bit system. — I played Arcade versions of many of these in my childhood, so I was really curious to get hands-on experiences with contemporary-to-the-original-arcades home-system-versions. Then I wondered about the systems being either 1/2 a generation before (the Atari 5200), or the same gen. but with different library, which also homeconsole versions of arcades I played as kid (for example Staw Wars Arcade, Pole Position and Pengo) and then also the 7800 (Pole Position 2 and Robotron 2084).
  4. I haven’t played Ace of Aces (7800) that much. It’s a bit slow framerate, but I certainly don’t loathe it. It’s more like one of the just-ok to ok-and-fun-games. I not gotten far, but some of the dog-fights seem nice for a port not going for the highest framerates. I’d say (just first-impression), its one of the in-the-middle games.
  5. When I googled some game-titles (with review behind them), he came fairly high up. While many have reviewed many atari 7800 games, VGC seems to have reviewed all or almost-all titles. And they were listed from A-Z with scores. So, since he - at least in my google-search - came fairly high up (together with AtariAge-lists and professional reviews), but I still felt he both nailed it on certain titles and way-off on others, I felt like... hm... having his reviews reviewed.
  6. I’d say Planet Smashers also include gunning down Aliens/Space-invasive forces, as it also is, hm, sort of (loosely?) connected to Alien Brigade...
  7. I’ve at least ordered Super Pac Man; looking forward to test it. I have Robotron 2084; never heard anything else than that it is regarded as being among the 69 titles ‘officially’ released during the period when Atari continued the 5200.
  8. Not a golf-fan: The way I see it, the golf-element is hardly about golfing, but a comedy-element poking fun at the life-and-death-honor-at-all-costs-thing in 80ies Ninja-games and movies... If you loose... you dishonor yourself and your family... to the point where the only way to make up for it is ... ... harakiri...? ... nope; to try again... Ninja training is a serious matter! 🤣 Moreover, when you come to the golf-hole, the ‘putting’ is done by throwing shurikens at a flying dragon... Hmm... not usual in common golf methinks... To me Ninja-Golf is not so much about ‘sports’ as ‘comedy’ Its an action-comedy game...
  9. There are dungeons/bonus stages in Commando for the 7800.
  10. Cont. from above: I mean PacMan Collection and Bentley Bear looks at least as good or better than many of the originally released games (1986-1991). I think they really, really are a very important contribution to retro-gaming.
  11. What about Montezumas Revenge? Does it end, having some final screen or obstacle, which if overcome lets you win the game? Anyone?
  12. I have both 5200 and 7800 consoles. I also have some optional joysticks for the 5200. But thanks for letting me know. I plan on getting this ‘famed’ PacMan Collection for the 7800 one day, just need to let there be some bucks left in my wallet.
  13. Ok, see that one... I think homebrews and ports are important, and the ones already out there are appreciated. They keep the library expanding. I totally understand its an enormous work. I think I’ve seen YouTube videos displaying up to 100 A7800 titles. The number of releases while the system was in continuance from Atari was only 58/59. That means the library has been expanded by hard labour from independent developers by an almost-doubling. Of course thats important for retro-gaming.(not just atari, but retro-gaming in the general). And its 40 more reasons for any retro-gamer to obtain a 7800 console-unit. I’m also appreciative of the 7800, - what do you call them? - hacks, improved versions of officially/originally released titles...
  14. Ok, thanks, I’m relatively new here, so I’m not sure whats the usual «etiquette». Someone else liked my idea of someone completing M.I.A. You know, I don’t know how this ‘lands’ with people. I don’t know they will be like ‘wow, great idea man’, or ‘oh my, more programming’. I just don’t know. I just thought Pac Land looked like a ‘fitting’ title to the 7800 library.
  15. So there is the famous and highly acclaimed PacMan collection made. What about Pac Land (1984 arcade)? Would that become the growing 7800 homebrew hi-quality games out-put? Would it give a good addition to the homebrew library?
  16. Hm, ok, but the 5200 is ‘82-‘84 homeconsole; can it be expected to be ‘arcade-perfect’? Is worth having in a 5200 game collection?
  17. Robotron 2084 got a C-. I play it with only one control; even then I’d say B- (at worst) It has just a ton of things going on, plethora of action and highly responsive controls. Not C-.
  18. And ‘Planet Smashers’ got actually an ‘F’. F = do not(!) play or buy; waste of time and money + never fun. Now, Planet Smashers may feel very generic; a run-of-the-mill shoot-em-up with a few strategical choices thrown in. But ‘F’, no way. A generic shooter that has just lot of alright elements with crisp, responsive controls, would logically land between D and C. Not ‘F’.
  19. Ninja Golf got a C- Come on, its at absolute worst B-, I rank it as A. And then by what I would think of as ‘objective’ criterions. Graphics: 9/10 Sound: 6,5/10 Playability: 9,5/10 Lastability: 8/10 Amusementability: 8,5/10 Total (incl. proper intergration of chosen elements): 9/10
  20. Yeah, I’d say they count if they go through many set level-layouts and start over at level 1. Thats a game with beginning and end; it just loops. So I’d say ‘Vanguard’ is ‘a wrap’ after going through one round of levels and taking the final boss once. So Vanguard is on my list here. I found it very playable, but would like to see some light/shadow(depth) to the many ships and objects.
  21. I’m beginning to really enjoy Food Fight... it has a really strong actual-arcade feel... everything is polished, every part is quality... Xevious is very good. A true classic. I tried Asteroids (inbuilt PAL), team player mode with my bro today... really cool...
  22. ... according to a source... ...but wasn’t released at the time due to business and economic concerns... ... and it looks very nice indeed!! Anyone played it? Do you like it? Is it good? What will you give it from 1-10? I plan to get this sometime in future... (And how to get it on a cart?)
