Lots of people haven't been in a while and seen what modern arcades / FECs look like.

Yeah, I hadn't been in an arcade or FEC for quite a few years and then I decided to go to a couple local ones with my oldest child and it just blew me away.  I'd say it was probably about 15 to 20 years between visits for me.  Man did stuff change. Since then, I have gone a few times and played some of the games in your post (Fast and Furious Arcade, Monopoly, Raving Rabbids and Halo-Firestorm Raven).  They are fun but are definitely quarter munchers.  I gave my daughter $10 on a card and said "Have fun", that only lasted about four minutes!  Then I upped it to $20 and she was back in 10 minutes!  Sheesh, before I was out of there I had given her about $80 to play with and spent another $20 on some terrible pizza and watered down soda.  At least she got a couple of super balls out of the prize stand for her efforts...

Anyone have some recent suggestions on SSD drives that work?  I bought a Silicon Power drive a little over a year ago and its dead already - not crossing my fingers they will warranty it.  I could buy another for $60 but would rather another brand which seems to last.

I have a WD Blue 500 GB and it's been working for about 3 years now.  I have heard good things about Samsung drives.  If you're into keeping it all Atari all the time, they have an Atari branded Kingston drive on the Atari website for purchase.  You pay a premium for it, but it's nice that they offer one now.

Hello, Mr. @davpa.  Thanks for inviting our feedback.  I just have one thing.  I'm unhappy about the name.  The VCS was an Atari console that came out in 1977.  I really, really wish you had not chosen to name your new console the VCS, since it creates confusion between the new console and the 1977 original.  You could have called it the VCS II or the iVCS or the VCS PC or anything to distinguish it from the 1977 original console.  Now it is difficult to discuss either console, we must use extra words.  If we mean the original console, we must say "the original VCS."  And if we mean the new console, we must say, "the new VCS."  We can't just say "VCS" because both consoles have the same name.  Is it too late to give your new console a suitable, new name?  Respectfully submitted.  Thank you for listening!

Yes, it's too late to change the name.  I agree that the name is not the best decision here, but we are stuck with it.  The VCS 800 has been out for 3+ years and the name won't be changing.  The decision for the name was made by the previous CEO and marketing department at Atari and was inherited by the current board.  I consider all VCS owners lucky that the current CEO is investing as many resources as he is, in updating the firmware and the UX.  I am personally thankful that he is.

I’m not saying they shouldn’t make or sell it. If it’s profitable, fine.

but when I purchased the 2600+ and other games from them, I wasn’t expecting my email inbox to be bombarded with daily emails about clothing items that are obviously aimed at teenaged mallrats.

Maybe they could make separste email lists for Atari game enthusiasts like the people here who want occasional updates on new games and hardware, and another mailing list for the people interested in the clothing email blasts?

point being, I don’t want to miss out on important (and usually time sensitive) game or presale announcements, because I decided to unsubscribe when the clothing/merch emails got to be too many/annoying.

    Unsubscribe?

I personally like seeing the new merch in an email.  I don't always go onto the Atari.com site so if something catches my eye, maybe I'll buy it.  I wear a fair amount of gaming related t-shirts, and yes, I do also have a speaker hat (why, I'm not sure) so seeing the new stuff interests me.  If you don't want to be notified, just unsubscribe, it's right there at the bottom of the email.

Now that AtariAge has the molds and Atari has AtariAge, I'm more confident than ever I'll get my purple translucent shell with embedded sparkles/glitter as part of an effort to fund VCS 2.0 development, probably in some overhyped steelbox edition (Yes, I would actually buy that).

That's awesome!  I love the idea and I would buy one too.  Make mine translucent green with the embedded glitter, packaged in a steelbox and I'm sooo on board.

  6. Recently purchased a game from Sir Guntz and the sale was very smooth.  Tracking was provided, the item was very well packed and arrived in the condition described.  Thank you @Sir Guntz I won't hesitate to purchase from you again!

Battery was at 3 bars, then the second the update occurred the modern controller was bricked and stopped working and will not power on and is not detected by the console when hard wired.  I pressed the button via the reset hole, and tried to power it on by pressing fuji button, I tried to charge it.  Nothing worked.

Sorry to hear.  You should try contacting @davpa or Ashlee Scarcella on the VCS Discord server.  They should get you sorted with a fix or a new one.

Serious question. Is he suppose to be excited that his controller is trash and it is inconvenient to update? Should he have a favorable opinion of something that doesn't work?

Don't you have an Amico God to pray to or something?  You only come in here to stir up shit, never offering any shred of credible assistance to anyone.

Mine arrived today. I noticed on Atari.com on the VCS page the link leads to a 404 page now. Makes me wonder if this is discontinued and they are leaving people to do pc-mode as a do it yourself project.

Nah, they probably took the page down for maintenance or to change the description.

The market of people wanting an SSD drive for their VCS, who haven’t already gotten one, must be really small.

Agreed.  The VCS has been out for three years already and most people that wanted an SSD have already gotten one.  I put a 500GB WD Blue in mine about a month after I got it.  This is an accessory that should have come out simultaneously with the VCS.  Although the USB thumb drive seems to sell like hotcakes and they can't seem to make them fast enough so...

  11. I did buy a repro BSG from ETSY a few years ago.  It was advertised as such and was about $28.  It came without a box but did have a box insert, manual, and cartridge, flocked in the aforementioned gray shell.  It boots and plays great and that's all I wanted it to do.  I wasn't about to spend $500+ on a real one.  I collect stuff, but I'm frugal about it (says the guy that just bought an AES).

I placed 3 different orders during the sale.  I received one of them about 2 and a half weeks ago (yay!)

Normally, when I've placed multiple orders they get fulfilled together.

I'm sure he's still working on them, and has a lot to do, so I'm being patient.  I remember long lead times during the pandemic year, kept faith, and he came through.  That year, I think it was close to 10 months before he shipped; we're getting close to 8 months now.

I've emailed @Albert to ask about the status of the other two orders.  Normally Albert responds to emails within a day or two, but this time it's been quiet.  I followed up two weeks later, and a few days later still nothing. I hope everything is OK.

Has anyone received there order recently?

I am in the same situation.  I had placed two orders and only received one of them.  I had assumed that they would have been grouped and shipped together, but with the amount of orders placed I realize this may have been false assumption on my part.  I am sure Al is working on them as quickly as he can and will ship them as soon as they are ready.  I think we also need to remember that Al is also an official Atari employee now and I'm sure he has many other responsibilities in addition to the AA store and website.  I at least got Halo 2600 to tide me over for awhile.

Well, improved update mechanism my ass. I turned my VCS on for the first time in several months, and got the update screen. Got to 2/4 updates then just sat there for an hour+ before I power cycled it. Now it boots to a looong black screen, followed by this:

Ugh.  I think there is a fix for this but you'll have to make contact with @davpa or Ashlee on the VCS Discord.  They will also want you to fill out a support ticket at atari.com and log your concern.  Good luck.
