  1. I saw my first Virtual Boy in the wild today at a thrift.  It was $10 but without the power supply or controller so I didn't pick it up.  Plus I don't have a burning desire to play it anything soon  :P

You're going to regret that. I passed up a PC Engine controller then I found a PC Engine without a controller. I passed up an Intellicart, then I found an Intellivision about two weeks after the last cart was sold.

  2. Interesting that having BASIC attached, it still runs, but the rain is green. (?!)   Maybe I misunderstood.

Sorry, should have been clearer. If BASIC isn't disabled, the graphics are corrupted. If BASIC is disabled everything works fine but the rain is green.

  3. So are you saying you're okay with the speed? It is slower than the NTSC version. After playing NTSC for a while PAL is just too slow for me

Seems fine. Keep in mind that I haven't played it on an emulator in NTSC mode or anything. But I certainly didn't feel like response time was being affected.

  4. Okay, I got it running on an unmodified PAL Atari 800XL last night after I logged off.

    * Speed issues regarding playability negligible.

    * Speed issues regarding music, well, it did seem a little slow, but I listen to drum and bass, so who knows.

However, the rain was green. Now, I was only using RF, but on easy with the large rain it didn't look baby blue to me, definately green.

I thought it was corrupting until I booted with the option button down, then it was fine.

Nice to finally see my Llama in action :D

If you want me to test anything, just say.

  5. I've been meaning to dig out my 800XL, so this might finally be the push I need. I can get it running on a real PAL Atari 8-bit with my SIO2PC cable. Haven't hooked anything up in a long time, but I believe there's a free Windows XP compatible Atari drive emulator to suit the SIO2PC cable.

I will try and get the system all hooked up for you as soon as possible. Maybe a few days to find all the bits.

  6. I used to buy bulk stuff cheap, keep the interesting bits and sell the rest for more than I paid for the whole lot. Sometimes much more.

Now I just have a full time job. The question isn't how I afford it, it's how I have time to enjoy it. This is true for most of my friends -- we can all purchase far more entertainment product than we have time to enjoy.

  7. The main thing I might be concerned about would be subtle differences in emulation that might affect someone's opinion of a game, but generally I don't think that'll be an issue.

I will be explicit as to the environment that I play the game under. And hopefully I'll be able to put some reviews together this weekend.
