  1. Much as "Places... near things" is a cute location, I have an Amiga 500 here in Perth, Australia that could do with a better home -- what country are you in?
  2. My set three arrived in the mail yesterday. They look great. Now I really have to hook a 2600 up to my NTSC-happy TV Where's that darn 9V adapter...?
  3. Well, I've just Googled for "Upromise" and it does appear that while they skirt close to the line on occasion (SPAM and data mining), they never actually cross it. However, using it to make any substantial money is probably expecting a bit much. From what I gather from news posts and articles, bloatedmonkey would do better to just eBay the prizes he's offering. The money he'd get from that would probably be equal to two or three years of Upromise -- if it even lasts that long. Meanwhile, he wouldn't have sold his soul (and his contact details) to a marketing company.
  4. Expecting AA members to give some company their credit card details is either suspect or naive, or both. On a more specific note, I wouldn't at all be suprised if the agreement you made (clicked-through) with the company bars financial inducements to get others to sign up.

Have you still got my address for my prize for coming first loser in your label competition?
  6. I'm just kidding. I've been wanting to use that animated smiley ever since I found it...
  7. The cart arrived yesterday and I plugged it in straight away. Thanks again!

    Contest Ideas

Suggestion: The person with the best Atari-branded (or general retro video game related) swap-meet or thrift/charity store find for the month of July wins a prize. Must provide photos. Either you pick the winner, or you pick the top five and AA members vote.
  9. Lost Monkey wins! I'll be having one final look through all my 2600 carts I can currently find and posing a PM to Lost Monkey to pick the prize from. Thanks for playing everyone.
  10. Competition over. It is Pac Man, I scored 2524. No further guesses are valid. I'll determine the winner shortly.
  11. At this point I'd just like to say how funny it will be if it's not Pac Man...
  12. Here's those pictures in a better context: From http://www.tripoint.org/games/literature/c.../parker/pb.html
  13. Early screenshots used in pre-release advertising are often completely faked. A scan from a magazine that proports to include a screenshot is not proof that a prototype was created.
  14. Come on, it's only been, what, three days? We won't know the answer for weeks. Actually I know the answer. I need to make an update to the contest page and then post the news. ..Al Oh, okay then. So, who won?
  15. Come on, it's only been, what, three days? We won't know the answer for weeks.
  16. The only similarity is that they are taxi games, as in picking up people and taking them to their destinations. As it happens, the vehicles are yellow because that was/is a stereotypical colour for a Taxi in the US.
  17. ATARI TROLL has posted a duplicate answer, he may guess again.
  18. Okay, that's not what I mean when I say score/time. Say the game is Barnstorming -- guess my time to complete a game, since there is no "score" as such.
  19. Sorry, the BB parser glued the full stop onto the URL. http://krisjohn.atari.org/stuff.html And yes, you post your guess, which should include a title and a matching score or time, to this forum.
  20. Okay, it's about time I hosted one of these competitions myself. I'm currently in the process of photographing pretty much every item in my video game collection. The list is at http://krisjohn.atari.org/stuff.html A little past half way down (for the moment), on the left, is a mystery cart. Only the slightest bit of the end label is still intact. I have not played it, I have no idea what's on it. Sometime in the next weekend, local time, I will insert it into my PAL Atari 7800 and play a single game of whatever it is. I will then record anything score-like (score, time, whatever). You have to guess what the title is and what the score/time will be. Of the people who guess the title correctly, the closest score/time will win the cart and their choice of: Jungle Hunt, Sky Skipper or any other 2600 title I'm sure I have a spare of (the list will be PMed to the winner). * One guess per person. Once you've made your guess, you're stuck with it, except... * Make your guess unique -- if it's the same as an earlier post, yours doesn't count. * Any editing of messages rules you out of the competition. If you accidentally guess the same as someone else, post another message. If two people both guess the winning title and their scores/times are the same amount away from the winning score/time (eg; ten over and ten under), the person that guessed the lower score or higher time (ie; worse performance) wins. My message indicating what the game is and the score I achieved will signal the end of the competition. My next message will announce the winner. If the game doesn't work, the game otherwise doesn't suit the competition above, or no-one guesses the correct title, the winner will be picked randomly from everyone that posted a guess. Remember, Perth is eight hours ahead of GMT/UTC and somewhere around 13-15 hours ahead of most of the US. If I do this on Saturday morning it may still only be Friday evening where you are, so don't wait until the last minute!
  21. No Atari stuff, but I did score a working Apple PowerCD. Now I'm looking for something like USB2 or Firewire -to- SCSI and some Windows drivers so it can be the CD-ROM drive for my next PC project...
