Indeed. What's really funny is that I was the first person I knew with an accellerated video card back in the day when more than 256 colours was almost unheard of. I had a 15bit (32k colours) VGA accellerator and it made Windows fly Then I went for TV-out rather than 3D accelleration. Wrong way. By the time I was buying my next PC I was playing games only on my PSX. Short trip from there to a Gameboy, then to a SNES, then *bamf* Atari, et al. If it hadn't been for that one TV-out integrated adapter without proper DirectX support, I never would have gotten into retro console gaming...

That's so funny. "really old 3D card" - ha! The most powerful PC I own is a 266MMX laptop with 2MB of video RAM and no 3D anything. And it's not more than 4 years old.

Congratulations to the winner(s). I won't post the name here, it'll ruin the suspense...

Holy moley-Yet another Sniderman 2600 Mystery Cart Giveaway!

If I thought I could find work in less than the 18 months it took last time, I'd probably quit. At least yesterday I would have. -

Sorry everyone. Yesterday was a bad day. Row-with-my-boss-might-be-getting-fired bad. Somehow I saw the same crap I was fighting at work somewhere in pretty much everything I did yesterday. I should have just stayed off the forums for 24 hours. I'm completely wrong. Snider's right, of course. -
Are we there yet?

Dragon Treasure? Can't work out the clues -- probably a cultural assumption in there somewhere... -
That's okay, PAL 7800s can't play US carts. (Plus, I don't know anything about classic US cars.)

Most worthless system ever???
krisjohn replied to Miles Tails Prower's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I got mine a "Harvey Norman" when I bought my PS2. I've also seen them at Electronics Boutique. I don't know the full list of what it fixes, but RGB output is on the list. There are also some differences in early PS2 and later models. Again, don't have specifics. But, no, you don't need a mod chip to use these CDs. -

Those region bypass CDs sort out a lot of that crap. I use DVD Region X. The Action Replay CD does the same thing, possibly more. After trying to play DVDs on my new A$4,200 portable computer, the PS2's DVD playback is a dream. I still don't have a normal DVD player. Mind you, I only have one DVD of my very own. But I thought you were replacing a PS1? You're right that most of the early releases are uninspired, but titles like ICO more than make up for, say, Crazy Taxi or Rez, both of which are just Dreamcast ports. I agree. But the DC doesn't play PS1 games or DVDs -

Don't forget BBS gaming and play-by-email. I don't recall any dates, but there's some seriously early stuff there. Or what about the old mainframe multiplayer games. There was a maze shooter called something like "hunt" that I used to play on an old PDP-something. 11? Something like that. Don't know if the PDP-11 was "8-bit" though -- more likely something like 24-bit.

X-box. "Exclusive" just means it'll come out for the PC a few months later. Why bother? -

32X It's just such a twisted idea AND an amazing upgrade. -
For the first time in quite a while I didn't find *any* Atari stuff. However, I did just pickup a Silicon Graphics Iris, working but with no drives, monitor or keyboard, for the equivalent of about US$10. It posts, but obviously won't boot. At the very lease I've got myself a nice case when I next put together a PC -- not that I'd want to be humping it to any LAN parties or anything

Will there be a label competition? I'll need to start looking for props straight away...

That's a pretty damn impressive prize all by itself. Being able to put "Animal design for Atari 5200 game Koffi, the Yellow Kopter, credited" onto one's CV is pretty damn cool. Many thanks to Ron (and everyone else involved) for the opportunity.

Makes me wish Australia had a 5200...

Thank you judges, thank you ball-boys. Thank you Snider Man! (If anyone runs another compo with the same idea, the trick would be to post and "I'm back" message, then see who was the last poster. Not that I'm complaining )

Just got a message passed on that eBay Australia is having a free listing day this Thursday (AEST). No URL for the news, sorry. Thought some Australian members of the forum might like to know. I'll probably be listing a bunch of stuff, but the only Atari thing I'm likely to list is my second HES Smash Hit Pak. I'll have to sort out a list and do the photos this evening. If anyone cares what I'm selling, there will probably be some sort of list on the journal section of krisjohn.atari.org in about 24 hours.

You should provide a piggy-back socket at the top so people can plug in a Compumate keyboard. Include Telnet/SSH on the board and your Atari 2600 could be a terminal for your Linux box. Lynx or Elm on a 2600, yum. Wireless sounds funky too -- I should have 802.11b running some time soon.
