Okay, I don't have the exact info at hand, but you're going to need three power adapters -- one for the MD, one for the MegaCD and one for the 32X. I think they're all around 10V, maybe it was the connector that was a bit different for the MegaCD. If you haven't got it working, or blown it up, by the time I get home I'll check the voltages and polarity and post the info.

I played the demo and I think it sucks. I've never seen a more linear, limited full 3D game in my life. It has all the gameplay of Road Avenger for the Mega CD.
-
Have you got the metal mounting plate on the bottom of the Mega Drive? Have you got the correct power supplies plugged into each uinit? I think the CD's power supply is a slightly different voltage or something. The CD only connects to the deck at the expansion slot, there are no other connections. Treat it like an old cart -- it may need to be pushed, wiggled or cleaned to get it working.

Here in Australia modding is currently legal. (Sony are appealing the decision.) So I got my PSX modded today. I can now use my MP3 player add-on without having to swap disks. Moreover, they solved the skipping problem I had -- turn the unit on its side. Playing it balanced on its edge works wonders - I mean I can got for hours playing MP3s (legally downloaded from MP3.com, or ripped from my CD collection) from a CDr without a single pop where previously I couldn't go five seconds before it totally broke up. As it happens I have a vertical stand I got for my PS2 that's shaped to work with the PSX ("Moonbase" if I recall). Now I just need to pickup a second stand for my PS2. This means that the next time I order something from a place like Good Deal Games I can include a Namco Museum, or whatever. Yay!

Thanks for your help. Looks like I've got everything running how it should be. Now I have to decide if the mega games packs are enough to screw around with or if I should attempt a RAM upgrade and start playing around with some of the OS stuff. I got the terminal stuff working last night. I wish I still had a shell account somewhere.

I scored the Xonox double-ender Ghost Manor/Spike's Peak for the equivalent of US$2.25.

Am now and it does. Thanks! Atlantis still not interested in working though.

Thanks for all the info. I'll try some titles. So far I recall that Atlantis doesn't work, nor Dig Dug. I'll post this post then I'll try running the software (might drop my connection...) Yours only got sent off yesterday. Sorry about the delay. No car, 9-5 job and no post office within walking distance of work. A friend posted it in the end.

I've got a SIO2PC cable now thanks Al, so I can make my own disks. If only I could find some blanks. I'd still like an SDX cart, but I've just seen one go for US$70-something on eBay. Ouch. There are a couple of places on the web with a 3.x version for US$19.95. Would I be missing out on a whole huge amount if I got a 3.2c, or whatever it's called?

I received my SIO2PC cable yesterday and I have a couple of Qs I've got the APE demo and the SIO MSDOS app. * I downloaded the Mega Games sets on Holmes and only about half of the games I try to run actually load (on both my 800XL and XEGS). Is there a PAL v's NTSC issue? Is there any other reason why some might load fine but others crash in the same way every time? * Is the Atari supposed to click/beep/buzz as it's loading from the emulated disk drives? * Any general recommendations of cool stuff to try? * Any good source of DD 5.25" disks in Australia? TIA.

Indeed, if you look through the forums you'll find at least one other thread started by Stan with "OUT OF CONTROL" tacked on the end. I spotted one in the Off Topic section with something to do with radio in the title.

Does anybody have the cable that goes from a 32x to genesis
krisjohn replied to IceCold's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Since spare cables are almost impossible to come by, I'll see if I can help you with gametz. That and the fact that it's actually a pretty decent service. Go to the URL above. At the top right is a "Create Account" link. Click on it and you'll be presented with a pretty standard new account form. Enter the details they're after, including a valid email address. If you're paranoid, I recommend http://sneakemail.com or http://www.spamgourmet.com. You will eventually receive an email with an activation code/password. Once you're in you can see the emails of the other users. Go back the the URL above and click on the username in the left column of the result. From there you should be able to see their email address on the right of the header. I'd help more but I can't remember my password and the email address they have on file is now dead. -

What mods would you like to see on a "new" 7800?
krisjohn replied to Atari 7800.com's topic in Atari 7800
An in-built Cuttle Cart compatible game loading system gets my vote. And S-Video. I really should get around to modding one of my Atari systems for S-Video. -
RGB http://www.lik-sang.com/catalog/product_in...oducts_id=1478& S-Video http://www.lik-sang.com/catalog/product_in...oducts_id=1097& I've got one of the S-Video cables from there. I also got my Saturn region bypass cart and multitaps from Lik-sang. They're fine as long as nothing goes wrong (like my rumble/memory pack for my N64), as they expect you to post the faulty item back at your own cost.

Can get large quantities of Lynx/VCS and other 8 Bit stuff
krisjohn replied to Lord-Chaos's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Don't worry, I found your news post. Are you saying that you could get more (and different) titles if someone helped you with the funding? If I wanted a large lot including, say, 3 or 4 of every XE cart game you've got listed in your news post, shipped to Australia, what sort of price would I be looking at? -
Can get large quantities of Lynx/VCS and other 8 Bit stuff
krisjohn replied to Lord-Chaos's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
I might be interested in the XE carts. What titles and what quanities? For that matter, what's "too large quantities" when it comes to the 2600 games? five of each of 20? 100 of each of two? 2,000 total? -
Thanks for the tip -- that's a much better way of reading new stuff. Ignore my original request. More so.

Favorite and Most despised Contollers of all time?
krisjohn replied to z28in82's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I don't think I've got the standard controllers hooked up to much at home. I've got: Dreamcast: Arcade stick Saturn: 3D controller Mega Drive: 3rd party controller with screw in stick C64: Epyx microswitch joystick PS2: DVD remote (not used for games) Other consoles don't have anything plugged into them if I'm not using them. The picture is of a one-handed controller I got for 5-player Bomberman on the PSX. I've even got a SNES/Saturn-to-PSX adapter for that classic feel. I've got heaps of various controllers because I'm a big fan of multiplayer games. In addition to the normal offerings, I've also got heaps of different InfraRed remote controllers. Their popularity has dropped off lately because of the "rumble pak" feedback option in most modern controllers and the fact that the memory cards plug into the controller, but still they're a lot of fun. I've got IR controllers for the NES, Master System (Mega Drive if you don't need too many buttons), Playstation (digital only, no feedback) and Saturn. -
The project continues slowly. A placeholder website exists at: http://members.optusnet.com.au/~kris_j/atari.html Adhesive spindles for use in the packaging have almost been found. A foam style have been found that are just slightly too small and given to shrinking. A slightly larger rubber one is being searched for. (This won't mean much until I get some photos up.) The most convenient printing place can't print on heavy enough cardboard. 250gsm (I think that's right) is still just thick paper, not thin cardboard. It's been made obvious that if the card is too thin, the CDs will pop off their spindles when it bends. A bit of a setback. The labelling kit arrived yesterday but had been seriously under-packed. It was more or less destroyed so I have to wait for a replacement. Organisation of ROMs has not progressed, though I'm catching up on general organisation of files on my PC. Three more prototype 8cm CDs have been burnt (I don't have great access to a full-sized CD drive capable of reading audio CDs). The remaining two CCU discs will be copied once I've got the labelling kit sorted out. I've only had two interested parties. The initial run will be reduced to 6 if I don't get a few more bites.

How's this going? Not meaning to rush, it's just there's some serious nastiness and off-topic posting going on in the 2600 forum that I'd really like to turn my back on.

Linux and Mozilla problems on the forums?
krisjohn replied to Atarinvader's topic in Site and Forum Feedback
I mostly use Mozilla 1.0 RC3 on Windows XP with a brutal little HTML filter called Proxomitron and I've had exactly zero problems with the forums. At home a pre 1.0 version of Mozilla and Win98SE doesn't expire forum pages very well and I often have to manually refresh the index pages, but otherwise it all works very well.
