Yes, I don't have any DOS disks. If someone doesn't mind posting a couple of floppies to Australia, that'd be mighty nice of them.

Meanwhile, I've set up all the peripherals with my XEGS. All the power supplies are third party and the one I thought was just for the disk drive (1050) has a second connector for the tape drive too. Without tapes and disks I can't be sure they work, but they power up okay. The printer (1027) has tested okay. Interesting ink system.

I can't believe this! I am in the middle of doing the *EXACT* same thing with a 5200!You'd better hurry, because these dingbats are patenting "their idea". Or at least trying to, but things as they are, they may manage it.

I've just come back from a morning's swap-meeting and I picked up a batch of Atari home computer stuff:
800XL, boxed, manual, works
Tape drive, boxed, manual, no power supply
Disk drive, small manual, no disks, no DOS manual, not yet tested
Printer, boxed, manual, not yet tested
Word processor cart, boxed, manual, quick ref guide.
All with the right serial cables, which is nice. Picture attached.
A$50 (~US$27)
Is anyone selling a modern DOS cart? It'd be cool to use all this stuff on my XEGS.

I've got a demo of Stuntman for the PS2 with the Fuji logo plastered all over it. Shame the game has about as much gameplay as Road Avenger for the Mega CD

I worry that one day I'll have an auction like that.
Heck, I've already got nearly a dozen spare, working consoles. And drawer upon drawer of controllers.

Is there any chance that a personal kill file system can be implimented? There are some people who only post what I would consider noise, but others may well consider appropriate. The ability to just ignore about half a dozen people at any given time would be really useful.
It really is only a very small number of people, the vast majority are cool as.

Cool. The price will probably be somewhere between half and three quarters that price. I'll have to double-check what the 8cm blanks cost me, and check the international postage costs, but A$70 should give me plenty of room to move, including postage. A$50 probably for Australians. These are not final prices.
BTW: I don't intend to use any of the original's artwork. In the spirit of the original 2600 jnr, it will be smaller, cheaper and with fewer frills.

Does anyone remember the price of the original CCU?
Also, the PAL question may have been answered. A seventh disc may be available separately (discount for buying both packs) with PAL ROMs and updates to the original CCU. This may be of particular interest to current CCU owners.
Thoughts?

The guide says US$30.
That's the price JerryG might have sold a loose cart (in good condition) for back when he was dealing. His prices are inflated with a premium based on the fact that he kept a lot of stock and you could therefore get what you wanted quicker and more often from him (true for most dealers) and the fact that if something went wrong you'd probably get your money back. P2P deals usually have slightly lower prices, but if you have the box and/or instructions then that lifts the price.
HTH.

I'm sorry, are you the winning bidder or not?
If you the winning bidder, then you have the full force of eBay's "Safe Harbour" (or whatever). You're possibly even insured. Send eBay the full details and you should at least get revenge, if not get your money back.
If not, then you're screwed -- you went against eBay policy and if you report the details they'll probably kick both of you off their system. They have rules for a reason. Your *only* option is court. Does the US have a "small claims" court?

do you think its a sign that you play too much atari when you see the ghost getting pumped full of air and you know exactly what's going to happenYes, although the tube did make it a bit obvious.
Nice work BTW.

I've found that people are seriously disinterested in discussing money on AA. While I find price guides to be invaluable, most of the stuff here is trades or new projects. Even posts in the eBay forum tend to avoid mention of actual money.
I will see if it's in the JerryG price guide this evening at home (memory willing).

The CCU Jnr project's goal is to create an updated version of the CCU using 8cm CDs. Because it's not a good idea to have more than 99 tracks on an audio CD, very little of the original full-sized CDs are used. A direct copy of the original CD 1 has already been confirmed to fit on an 8cm disc.
An initial batch of 8cm CD blanks have been sourced, enough for at least half a dozen copies. The source of these discs is reliable and further blanks should not be a problem.
A Mini CD labling kit has been ordered, though it wasn't in stock at the time. A week or so should see it arrive.
A major hurdle in the desired packaging was possibly overcome last night in a chance meeting with another 8cm CD freak, er, fan. A printing place close to my work will be asked if they can do limited full-colour print runs to a nice firm stock, probably tomorrow.
All the ROMs I'd ever want are on my hard drive. Sorting them out and preparing a list will take some weeks.
I intend to make a full copy of all six original CCU discs as a prototype, to test the layout and design of the labels and packaging. These will clearly be marked "Prototype" on each disk and the packaging.
Beyond that a run equal to the number of people who confirm a strong interest by MSGing me here on AA (or a dozen, whichever is larger) will be made. This will be labeled "Beta". I am considering an at-cost update to purchasers of the beta version if any major faults with a CD are found.
Any problems will then be sorted out (such as an old or PAL ROM sneaking into the set) and a full version 1.0 run will be made. Numbers are yet to be considered.
A website will be created once the prototype exists, with full details, including costs of shipping (I'm in Australia -- good news for European Atari fans, not so good news for US fans).
It is yet to be decided what will be done about PAL ROMs. Possibly if there's room a selection will be placed at the end of the sixth disc. None of the Supercharger games will be included in the collection.
So, if anyone is seriously interested, please register said interest by MSGing me, here on AtariAge, an email address that's likely to still be around in 6 months or however long it takes me to bring all the peices together.

The Famicom version has some funky art. I just got my family converter for my NES, maybe I should find a copy...

in Canada?Australia, but you're close.
And, no, I don't believe they were as big down here. Or if they were, it was "before my time".
-
Congrats Earl.

-
Yikes, that's a bad version. Not 2600 Double Dragon bad, but bad.
-
I got the ROM onto my CC a week or so ago.
Maybe I would have thought it cooler if I were actually familiar with the peice of music used. Or the original game, sans music.
I'm sure it's a cool hack, but I'm too ignorant to be able to tell.

Well Karateka will add a good 5 minutes of Atari playing time to your week before you tire of it!You're not wrong. Wow. It's like they had room for graphics or gameplay, but not both. (So, not much has changed in the industry then
)Worst. Control. System. Ever.
And it didn't even mean that my 7800 got setup permanently. I only had to bung a couple of my 2600 carts in it to be reminded that the TV in that area can't sync to 60Hz.

I just tripped over an update to this:

I wouldn't want to own a www.*jaguar*.[com|org|net] website right about now. Apple don't have a good history with nastygrams.

Between the 10 games consoles I've got setup, it's hard to find much time to play any one thing. Usually there's some sort of trigger, like a new game, competition, request for review (my first two Peek-n-Poke reviews are up), or some sort of new accessory. I've been playing my Mega Drive quite a bit in the last few weeks -- since I got a Game Genie and Action Replay for it. Most recently I've been trying some SMS games, specifically because of the "which SMS games are good" (or whatever) thread on one of the forums here. I played NES Smash TV last night after finding a mains double-adapter to get one little gaming sub-section back up and running.
Chances are that I'll hookup a 7800 soon to try Karateka, given the absolute trashing its receiving in the 7800 forum and the fact that I have two copies and have played neither.
I'd say an average of an hour a week of Atari. Four hours a week on console gaming, total.

I've only just got to the point where I'm buying old games magazines at thrifts and book exchanges. I've got some brick-and-plank book shelves that are perfect for those cardboard magazine holders. 3 bricks is exactly the right height between shelves. I've got a box for each year, starting only at 1990 so far. I hope to get some '80s magazines soon.
The ultimate in preservation is to scan them. I've only got a little USB scanner and Acrobat Writer 3 though, so it'd probably be a slow process with large files at the end. As it is, I'm supposed to be scanning an old Atari 8-bit computer book for AtariArchives.

I have a prototype of it and it's still bad! So much for the theory that there's a really good version of Karateka out there somewhere that Atari never released.I haven't tried the copies I picked up a month or so ago, but the way you all speak, it sounds like I should setup a 7800 just to see how bad it is.
. . o o (Maybe if I swapped out my Coleco I'd have room for a 7800... Hmm)

Any chance I could buy one of these off you?
