  1. Speaking of Karateka and guides, does anyone know how you're supposed to get past the gate on the Gameboy version. I've tried half a dozen different ways (running, walking, move when it's down, move when it's up, move when it's moving up, etc) and every time it kills me.
  2. I found the controls on Sonic Adventure to be absolutely appauling, but the worst point came early when I hit some sort of energy conduit that took control of the character (I think I was playing Tails). It was obviously the correct way to go, but it kept dumping me out of the level. One thing I have enjoyed is the Atari 2600 emulator for the DC. I came second in the Thrust+ compo using it. Sound's a little iffy and the colours may not be perfect, but everything else is fine.
  3. Were any of the 3D LCD shutter glasses games any good, or were they all just glorified proof-of-concept tech demos?
  4. No, indeed not. For anyone interested, the key peice of software was Anaglyph Maker. http://www.stereoeye.com/software/index_e.html Other parts of the puzzle include: A Fujifilm MX-2700 with a cute little tripod Photoshop 3.0.5 Word for the 3D lettering (seriously) The spider was found in a swapmeet (trash 'n treasure, car-boot sale, whatever) and cost a buck or so. Same for the skeletons.
  5. I found two common 2600 carts in a pawnbroker, but they had a large price sticker right across the label and it was one of those laser printer sheet label things that doesn't come off without taking something with it. Other games related stuff includes three loose NTSC SNES carts for A$7 each, Mega Drive Jewel Master (boxed) for A$5 -- which I walked through yesterday with the help of my new Action Replay -- and Smash TV for the NES also for A$5, which I can't play until I find a mains double adapter around the house somewhere. If only the Mega Drive, 32X and Mega CD power supplies weren't so damn large I'd have a couple of spare double adapters.
  6. It's probably a weight thing. When your main market is international, you learn to bundle together small items to just fit under the limit of the smallest parcel weight range. Cart, box and manuals for three games probably just fits under 250g or 500g. Six carts (no box, etc) comes in just under one of those -- so close it's hard to pack.
  7. Gauntlet Legends is good, but short. Crazy Taxi is great fun, avoid CT 2. Soul Calibur is probably the best 3D fighter of all time. Marvel vs Capcom is the best 2D fighter. Chu-Chu Rocket is a damn good party game.
  8. What's the current time over there? I think central-whatever about 13 hours behind my local time. I think there's roughly 2 hours, 15 minutes left to go. Am I even close?
  9. I found them! I'd given up hope of finding even a single rubber skeleton, but low and behold, two!
  10. What? He's not scary enough for you or something?
  11. It's minimal in Sky Jinks but if you look at the towers and the way the shadows are done, it could be considered isometric.
  12. Hi All, I'd just like to brag that I found a boxed HES Smash Hit Pak with a bonus 2 Pak Special (Planet Patrol & Wall Defender) for A$5 and a HES Grand Prix box with a (beat up) Pole Position cart in it for A$3. The GP box and slick will be scanned for the archives this weekend. The Smash Hit Pak (sans 2 Pak) is my second one. Have a good weekend.
  13. It's a shame that I'm unlikely to ever have a 5200, what with them never being released outside the US (or at least never released in PAL format). It's almost tempting to learn how to program for the 7800 just so I can convert some of the 5200 titles into a bit more of a global format.
  14. I thought it was looking like there weren't going to be many entries...
  15. I bought a PS2 the weekend of the last price drop here in Australia. It's the only thing in my house that can play DVDs. Between DVDs and a couple of nice games like ICO and Wipeout Fusion, I'm very happy with the purchase. I'm waiting for a Gamecube/GBA bundle before I buy either of those. The fact that PAL GCs don't have S-Video out helps curb my desire, seriously. The only game I'm interested in for the GC is Super Smash Brothers Melee, but I know I'm not going to be able to play it with friends enough to really justify the cost of everything. More likely I'll spend most of my time playing some sweet 2D stuff for the GBA, particularly when I get a TV adapter for it. http://www.lik-sang.com/catalog/product_in...roducts_id=1725 (Link goes to PAL version) In fact, if you're just looking for some big screen fun and you're a fan of retro stuff, a GBA with a TV-out might be your best option. I won't be buying an Xbox simply because it's a microsoft product. That and the fact that it's barely been selling here and doesn't look to have a long future.
  16. When they release a PS2 version, I'll care about the price. I stopped upgrading my PCs years ago.
  17. I love computer pinball games. When I was first getting into the Atari retro scene I went off and found Video Pinball and had a go. It was awful. Then a little while later I picked up a copy of Midnight Magic. It's so much more enjoyable that I left it in the deck for a number of weeks before I found another cart to replace it. The Cuttle Cart if I recall. Summary: VP: Blows MM: Rocks Perhaps we could make this series into an official voting thing.
  18. I can't believe I did that. I meant "like Missile Command". Turns out the game is in fact Missile Control. Thanks!
  19. ICO Wipeout Fusion Onimusha's nice but it goes from being too easy to being too hard a bit quickly. Rez got some rave reviews, but it's just a netrunner version of Panzer Dragoon. Primal is looking good. http://www.gamespy.com/e32002/ps2/primal/
  20. Twisted is right. Maybe I just don't get it, like... like dance, but seriously, jeez, this stuff is borderline... something. Something twisted. I think it's called "Attention Seeking Behaviour".
  21. *I'm awake* (And I'm not, for example, reading the scripts for the last three Buffy episodes that haven't aired on Oz TV.) Meanwhile, no wonder the scorpion stuff didn't mean much to me, I have GIF animations turned off. More comments as I read further.
  22. I scored an 8-in-1 cart last weekend and there's still one game I haven't been able to ID. There are no clues on the label. * Plays a bit like Missile Control * Big rockets keep flying up the sides * There's a barrier in the middle of screen * Ships fly around above the barrier and drop bombs through it. I'll take a photo of the screen if nobody recognises it from the description... The other games are: * Beany Bopper * Flash Gordon * Laser Gates * Crack Pots * Word Zapper * International Soccer * Dragonfire
  23. I managed to score a Saturn for A$5 (~US$2.50). No cables or controllers, but I have plenty of spares. Was sold as not-working, but the only problem was that the reset button was stuck down. I soon popped that back up and now it works fine, apart from the dead battery. What were the games you got?
  24. The best joke guess would have been "Düff", or possibly Fudd.
