  1. And it works on PAL too? I wonder how that happened. I didn't put any PAL code in there that I know of.

It's probably generating a PAL 60 signal. That's PAL colours (generated by the PAL 2600) and NTSC timing (generated by your code). My TV copes happily with anything from 50 to 60 Hz with either NTSC or PAL colour encoding.

Hmm... After writing that I'm not sure that's exactly how it works.

  2. I'm thinking of doing a re-release on 8cm discs and calling it CCU Jnr. I've mentioned this once or twice before (Lee seemed very positive), but there's a lot of work and I'm not too sure where to start.

I have burnt a test CD. I currently have a working 8cm copy of CCU CD #1. It's just a straight duplicate. I'd like to update it with new ROMs, but that would mean I'd need to have every ROM currently on CCU, and I don't.

Is there any way to download every ROM in a single (preferably RAR) archive? I'm serious. It's probably smaller than the scans I've been sending to AA recently.

I have a really funky idea for the packaging, but I need to find a local company able to help me. I have one lead, but it's not as local as I'd like...

  3. I was looking forward to Onimusha II, but I got hold of the first one and it really didn't grab me as much as I'd hoped. The controls are really awful (pad-only and always relative to the way the character is facing, not the camera angle).

If I had an xbox I'd probably be after Panzer Dragoon Orta. As it is I'm happy with I and II on the Saturn, and Rez for the PS2 (which has almost identical gameplay)

So, that's what I'm not looking forward to. I am looking forward to Nintendo waking up and releasing a PAL GameCube in Australia with S-Video out.

  4. I posted three or four messages, practically begging for contributions from the largely articulate people on the AA boards.

Any in the last six months? If so, I'm sorry I didn't reply because I'd be happy to do something like that. MSG me with what it is that you're specifically after and I'll see what I can put together.

  5. Was this with the 2600 or an emualtor?  If it played at all on the real thing I'll be excited

Then be excited. Cuttle Cart and (PAL) 2600 Jnr. Real paddles (bit twitchy though).

As for the ranges, they're good, but it's sometimes hard to stop in exactly the right place. I'm suggesting that when you hold down the fire button it moves at the same (low) rate regardless of what range it's in.

    0-35: -1

    35-50: 0

    50-85: +1

That way I can massively overcorrect in a desparate attempt to be in the right place and so long as I'm holding down the fire button I don't end up on the opposite side of the arena.

    Just a thought.

  6. Hi Andrew,

I assume the prizes for the label contest winners are in the in-tray after all the SE packages have been sent out. :)

I'm still up for helping create that new label we talked about 6 months ago.

  7. If anyone is interested in working out what a (rare?) cart not listed in the JerryG guide is worth, have a go in this thread.

I have a PAL Miniature Golf cart with a picture label.

    http://www.atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10883

I just scanned it for the database and posted a quick pic to the 2600 forum. tiggerthehun is interested, but none of us know what a fair price might be.

I've done a quick calculation based on JerryG prices. I've come up with roughly US$50. I'd love to hear what everyone thinks.

  8. This is not posted simply to advertise a sale, I'm posting to see what other people think of my logic.

Okay, I hit my JerryG last night and came up with the following (all prices US$):

    Normal Miniature Golf - $15

    Miniature Prototype - $85

    So obviously, it's between $15 and $85.

    Unimax Mini-Golf - $75

    Sears (with no © )- $30

I'd like to think that it would be somewhere between these two too.

Then, if I look at the PAL red labels, a game valued at $3-$6 in its most common variant is valued at $25 for the red label version. A game with a $5 or $10 cheapest version is a $35 red label.

Using the same ratio, this Miniature Golf variant should be priced at $50 to $65. Based on JerryG prices.

Meanwhile, JerryG claims that a Super Hit Pak is worth US$85. If anyone's willing to pay that I can have mine in the post by the weekend :) What do people think of the JerryG prices, on the whole?

I'm going to start a thread in the Marketplace forum and see if people agree...

  9. I had a play of the 2600 game last night. The controls are... interesting. Obviously a fixed speed is no good. Meanwhile, the variable speed as currently coded is tricky to get used to. Even after a while it's still hard to be in exactly the right spot. This will give the person serving a big advantage. My proposed solution is to use the fire button to limit speed.

Lets say the pattern for speed using the paddles is:

    8, 6, 4, 2, 0, -2, -4, -6, -8

When you press the fire button the speed should be:

    1, 1, 1, 1, 0, -1, -1, -1, -1

That give you a chance to make quick fine adjustments when you're almost in the right spot, and tell you when you're centered again without flailing all over the place.

But I'd still like to see a driving controller version, even if it was geared down at a ratio of 2:1 or 3:1. Again, perhaps the fire button could be used for fine adjustment.

    Thoughts?

  10. Sometimes it is really difficult to tell the difference between a shop that never has what you want and one that turns over the stuff you're after quicker than you visit. Two suggestions:

    * Ask

    * Leave your number with them

I had to leave my phone number with a local Cash Converters to secure a Dreamcast. They don't turn up very often and they disappear straight away. Possibly you could get to know a batch of the closest charity stores and tell them that you'll take anything that looks like an Atari game.

Possibly you could even volunteer for a peak time, or one currently unserviced. Many of my local "op-shops" close at midday on Saturday and aren't open Sunday. Some don't open before 10am. There are laws to do with trading hours, but it would be much more useful if they were open at times I could actually get there.

  11. (Actually, I didn't post that with the idea of getting you to sell it to me - but since that can of worms is now open...)

And I didn't mean for this to turn into free advertising, but as you say...

Keep in mind this is essentially a label variation, so you probably won't get the same price as an equally rare, but unique title.

That's cool. Can anyone think of similarly rare label variations that I can lookup for relative pricing when I get home?

Are the red label variations of common titles like Centipede similar in relative rarity? I get the feeling that most of the red label variants would be considered more common than this particular picture label.

What does a, say, red label PAL Pole Position go for?

  12. I'm not above selling this and I have a PayPal account.

It comes with a mildly beat-up box, but no instructions.

If a fair price can be determined I'm probably interested, so long as it's going to a good home :). Anyone got a JerryG guide handy? (Mine's at home.) What does "quite rare" go for these days?

  13. Hey Alex,

Did you get my morning's submissions okay? I hope 300 DPI JPGs are just the right balance of quality and size.

Between this batch and the lot I sent last week I've pretty much gone through all the boxes I have that the database doesn't. I'll have a double-check through my carts next weekend.

Hopefully I'll find some more interesting stuff next weekend. (Big, highly publisised swap-meet next Sunday. It's where I got my 7800.)

  14. minigolf.jpgI've just submitted a scan of the picture label variant of Miniature Golf. Knowing Atari titles such as this are well documented by now I was quite surprised to see this label missing from the database. Same art as the box, so no major surprise. It's posted on the right for your enjoyment. Is it rare, or has it just been overlooked until now?

Yes, it's PAL, but it's not HES or anything silly.
