True but the error message also says that it is detecting 0x00000 and retrying. To me it is not detecting at all. Gonna try again tomorrow with a dedicated 5v external supplyThe error message says that the software is expecting one type of chip, but is seeing another type. If your chip type is correct then check your soldering

Well cannot get the reader to see the Atmel chip. Do Atmel chips require anything to prepare them for loading the .hex file onto them? Mine is not showing up at all. Which leads me to believe that the chip is fried or the circuit is broken on paths to the Atmel. Ask anything even questions considered dumb. Never programmed an IC before, unless you count Dediprog.

Chalk this up to "noob-know-nada". I haven't pranced frolicking through the house in a long while. Thanks all and@jedimatt42!!XB doesn't use all of the 32k. The lower 8k is left available for assembly routines, or general tom-foolery.
So 24k is good.

I'm assuming the barrel plug needs to be there. That would probably be the problem.

- power off TI
- remove SS from TI / seperate 32k from speech synth
- install 32k direct to TI
- Boot
- same result.

You are missing nothing. It's overpriced.Would someone please explain why this seemingly normal TI-99/4A computer bundle is going for so much dinero? $256 and counting (plus shipping!) for the computer, RF modulator, controller set, PSU, a couple of Bill Cosby flyers, and the 12 common boxed games. It's clean and tested and looks to be in good shape but what am I missing?

Well it has the drivers on 5 .25" ... but I don't have a reliable floppy drive at the moment. Also.. optical mouse? With an Aluminium mouse pad?
Beginning to think this is an industrial terminal mouse.

Well ... looks like I need to assemble a proper system first. More on the morrow ... I'm getting the stink eye

K will doIt's a serial mouse!
Those are valuable for old DOS PCs!
(Not sure if it speaks MS Mouse, or PC Mouse dialect though. Maybe something else? You said you have old retro PCs sitting around-- see if CTMOUSE sees it.)

Well then I guess I open it.

So I acquired this today. Am not sure if I should open it or not. Is there a large calling for Unisys Mice? I can't find anything on this model.

It is very versatile. I have had immense fun tinkering with mine.

1 chip down, 1 lesson learned?
I truly hope so

Unfortunately, it looks like it is fried. I cant get it to recognize.

Well I gave it a go. Board is not recognizing. Then I realized that the power adapter was only giving 2 amps ... and the RPI needs 2.5... that .5 amps might be what was causing the chip to not be read as there was not enough power to power the chip. ,..... *facepalm*
more later.

hmm
I might try and work on this. I always have to try the most difficult thing. out of some strange sense of self loathing maybe... not sure.

I was about to flash the device, and I ran into a conflict I have already emailed for a resolution on. The Silk screen on the FG99 says "3.3v" AVRdude says use "5v". I really don't wanna create magic smoke from this project. Would using the 5v as AVRdude suggests harm any of the components?
We shall see or if you know please respond so I can have a wonderful weekend with this lol.
