  1. One playful observation... if FinalGROM had come first, you would have just been able to download XB.   (ducking and running for cover)
I am still kerflummoxed on that. The users of stackoverflow were not kind to my first posting there. Eventually I will figure it out. May not come from the Rpi either ... but would then have to purchase a programmer and learn that as well. I am not sure if you have to program the Atmel and the other BEFORE soldering them down... but then why would you add a SPI header to it?.. does the SPI header program both of the chips needing programming?

  2. TI to PC.  The saving to the recorder should only be done by the TI. The ground loop issue is addressed internally in the recorder, from what I can tell.

The TI really belts out the signal, while the PC kinda just half-asses it, even with volume turned up to 130%.  Saving from the Ti assures proper output levels.
Looking for this in the FAQ. Thanks !

  3. 1) I place a 2.5-inch 12v computer fan on top of the vent slots behind the cartridge port. Not noisy at all when I power it from an old 3v DC wallwart and the console runs much cooler with zero lockups after hours of running. Before that, I had plenty of lockups. That happened often enough I had dual TI-PEB setups running the same program that could take over in short order.

Why, you ask? I was using my TI to time color darkroom processing.  Unknown amounts of time lost while rebooting to get back to timing meant failed prints. After I added a console cooling fan, I was able to "retire" the second system from work duties and could instead play a game or write programs on it while the "work TI" minded the clock. The prints were in daylight light-tight drums rotating on a motor, so other than draining and refilling between steps, I often had nothing to do for 10 or more minutes. It was a great home business till everything photographic went digital.

I am big on harvesting from current tech and repurposing for old.

An easy way to do this would be to take a laptop cooling station, open it up, take the fans and whatever cheap circuit is in there. Then mount it inside the TI. Make a hole for the switch and/or usb(micro sometimes). I can usually find a station at Goodwill or some 2nd hand store for $2-$5.

I use these a lot for my sons projects in his costumes. Blue/Red LED, propylene glycol, shielded heating agent, couple of fans. BAM! Blue/Red exhaust from blaster or backpack.

I know you said it wasn't worth it ... I just kept having the wires slip off. Wanted something to make sure that the connections remained solid through the transfer.

Now I am a total noob when it comes to actually working with  programming on the TI. So,  I am gonna run though the "Getting to know you" book. The Big yellow one. see if I can't teach myself something..... annnd get rid of this damn mechannical keyboard that loves to ghost in letters.

  5. On my first TI, I had to remove the power board completely, as I didn't have the original power supply. I used an old ATX 1 power supply and made 2 custom Molex form factor power connections to connect it.

That left a lot more room available inside. I did have 2 led strips breathe/glow blue on the bottom grill and the upper grill from the inside.

I almost had a Knightrider-esque boot cycle planned. Would have a 11-LED running fader go back and forth, and it would play the KITT woosh-woosh once when powered on/g3 reset.

Dumped it when I got the second 99/4a, 'cause it came with the power supply. More projects came and it fell by the wayside. If I didn't toss the board, I'll see if I can get it working.

  6. Did you have to replace the belt on the program recorder, or had it survived the ravages of time?
It appears that time was on this one's side...in truth I didn't think I going to be lucky enough to find an original.e6da26cfe992a735a50c1d5bf899884d.jpg

Close, but you still need that tip lead to go into the headphone jack of the computer.  to accomplish that, I used that stripped patch cable.

If you will excuse my gawd-awful mspaint drawing here..

is this connection solely for "PC to Program Recorder" or is it also for "TI-99/4a to Program Recorder"?

  9. I am not really versed/instructed in Python... I am googling most of my questions. So if you know something basic to python that would be beginners noob level, don't hesitate to interject it. 🙂 the more I know!

I have made a Stackoverflow account which should also be helpful.

    Thanks in advance.

    - I got python version of 2.7

somehow keep running into the same error :

OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory

i did make sure to add the PATH

    sys.path.append('/home/pi/finalgrom/xdt99')

all of the xdt suite files are there

  11. Update:
Finally got round to making more time to program the FG99.
    CHECKLIST :
    - I got a python version of 2.*
    - I redownloaded the FG master and Xdt suite.
    - Fresh Buster install of Raspian on the 3B+
    - Installed xdt suite, Avrdude and TI Logo background (for luck!).

Ran the make.py script in terminal.
Still no love ... cant find the files...

    Let The Debugging Begin!!
