Building the Finalgrom99 and the 32K sidecar.
Mehridian Sanders replied to Mehridian Sanders's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Did anyone build their own FG99? From what I am reading it looks like I am gonna need to get one of these. https://www.adafruit.com/product/46 In order to program the Atmega. Are their other programmers I should be getting? Kinda bummed, in that I was looking forward to playing some games this weekend. Lol I have several Raspberry pi's and could utilize them for the programming. I am no stranger to GPIO's. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk -

Well, thanks Wagner's TechTalk. I got the SD card all setup but the FG is not being recognized. The Reset switch works just fine but I think I need to program the atmega. This looks like I get to go do some studying. -

Well not gonna say no. May try it out tonight if I have time. Have to give wife backrub ... I use this as a trading mark.. "Let me do *thing* and I'll give you a backrub." Seems to work well. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk -

My header was too big for the printed case. Going to cut a section out of the top to make it more accessible. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk -

I probably should have checked to see if there was another "Help the noob build his stuff" topic on the forum but.. So I have almost all my parts together for the aforementioned addons. I have been practicing my surface mount soldering and a guy (also named Matt HAH!) Is going to be overseeing the process. The through hole is not my worry at the moment. Quick Question: These ceramic 104's should be sufficient for the few called for on the 32k sidecar yes? My hope is others that have not spoken or have yet to speak can use this resource in the future. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk -
What TI stuff would you take to an INTERNET FREE zone?

2 years ago I built my pc with a small 32g optane m.2. Boots so fast... mmm. That's what got me on the Solid State kick. Been looking for more and more solid state since. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk -
I really need to get my FG built. Lol Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

Assuming you have already written an interface protocol for PCI ? Or am I missing something in translation? Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

Ok, so look at a grouping of batch files and have it run through FG99 on startup? Then write drivers for say.. an nvidia 680... and have a batch file to incorporate the various functions from the Gpu? Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

Has there been discussion about using SPI IC ? In theory we could load all basic functions on a relatively inexpensive SPI. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

So I am not normally included in development. Most of my work is based on testing. It may be that my thought on this is uninformed and uneducated. For which I would look for any kind of creative criticism, suggestion, or possibly good humored argument. I seems to me that there is no way to bring a total connection between the TI -99 and current world, without some kind of radical change. I love Solid State devices. they are cleaner, quieter, more dependable. If there was a way to bring about a newer OS for the TI that would allow for the induction of modern drivers, it would solve a lot of problems. However there are RAM, ROM, and GROM considerations to take into account. Is there a way to bring the TI-99 forward and keep the retro. Is there a way to make an OS that will function just like the TI-99 and allow for drivers? Is there a way to produce a processor capable of more? I know it would involve flashing ROMS. I think that there are enough Homebrewers that would enjoy a system that could do a bit more with itself. Making games that would keep the retro feel but be bigger in size ... like "Bards Tale (1985)" where the landscape is created at the time of player creation is procedurally generated, and bigger than just Skara Brae. Atari is coming out with the VCS system. It will have dual boot ability. Onboard OS is Based on linux it is allowing for retro games to be played and allow for it to be used as a Media center for the home streaming. I have to admit that I am truly impressed with the technology. Check out the system specs here :Atari VCS Pretty robust features for the coming age. TL:DR Can we make an OS based on TI-99/4a? Can we do what Atari VCS did? Thoughts and Comments please. and thank you for your time reading.

Help identifying PCI card.
Mehridian Sanders replied to Mehridian Sanders's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
I have a few such boards. The nice thing about this board is that I believe I can put a SATA SSD in the PCI port and have much faster response times for loading Win98 or XP. My choice is to make the one pictured a sort of NAS for Home. I have a few (closer to a Dozen) hard drives that have been wiped. probably use it for some Dos Games I still have lying about. Somehow I want to play Dune again. I think it was x286 or x386 era. More to Follow. -
Droid99..what happened?
Mehridian Sanders replied to Mehridian Sanders's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Thanks kindly. It is too bad. I have dosbox on phone but think that an emulator would work better on tablet ... size, it seems, matters. I will see what I can do to create another more singular TI emulator on android. An emulator to run an emulator seems ... cumbersome. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk -
So I dl'd the apk tonight and the characters are scrambled. It isn't on the app store anymore. I did a cursory look but couldn't find out what happened. Needed to sleep for work. Is the author still on the forums? Is it freeware or abandonware? TIA! A Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
