  1. Very nice, congratulations. I lost interest in Eternal Darkness unfortunately, I just don't see what people like about it so much compared to stuff like Silent Hill 2 or REmake. Maybe it's for people who really dig H.P. Lovecraft. Today I beat Axelay on hard, and subsequently on very hard, for the first time in my life: "See you again at Axelay 2."

  3. Sonic 1 and 2 are great games on the system, and different enough from the Mega Drive games. Sonic 2 in particular is much better than the Game Gear version. Other than that I don't have that much experience with the system. I have Alien 3, which is not as good as the Game Gear version (other than resolution, the GG version is more balanced), and I have Streets of Rage, which is better than the GG version but still not as satisfying as the MD version. I need to refresh my memory on its version of Out Run.
  4. I still rock a few. I've made an "80's computer corner" with an old television and two ZX Spectrums. For my Sega and Nintendo consoles, I sport a Philips CRT that I plan on replacing with a nice Trinitron if I can find one. My main computer monitor is a 22" LaCie Electron Blue IV that is glorious to play both 90's PC games as well as the latest titles.

  8. With their lack of cross-platform compatibility with account system, they might as well. Though the original Wii has that delicious analog 240p output (and more games than the Minis, except FX stuff).
  9. This year I beat some more Sonic games: Sonic 2 (Master System) - Good game and infinitely more playable than the Game Gear version because of less screen crunch. Sonic 3D (Mega Drive) - Great soundtrack, special stages are somewhat annoying and dizzying. Sonic 3D (Saturn) - Soundtrack not as memorable as the MD version, but the look and the special stages are on a whole other level. I've recently re-finished Alien Trilogy, Sonic 1 &2 (Jam) on the Saturn and Super Metroid on the SNES Classic Mini. Working on some other games on a variety of systems.
  10. Nintendo revitalized the USA market, which is where the crash happened mostly. Europe couldn't care less about the NES and was happily playing ZX Spectrum, C64, CPC, Amiga/ST and later the Master System.
  11. I got one at launch and didn't play it until yesterday. Despite having a SNES as a child, something doesn't click for me with the Mini. It didn't feel any more special than the Wii Virtual Console for instance. I'm currently buying stuff for my Sega consoles as well as N64 and the feeling I get from those real systems is different somehow. Also, some of my favorites on SNES is stuff like Alien 3, Batman Returns and Super SWIV, which are not on the mini.
  12. If you already have a 3DS and don't care about Xenoblade, no. If you've never had a 3DS, it's a no-brainer really.
  13. I am erect. They better stick to fixed camera angles, over the shoulder is fine, but it's getting boring and zombies are too slow and shooting them accurately makes them too easy.
  14. Finally. Starting with 75 seconds makes this really hard, and the fact that sometimes you can have 4 cars in front of you in a zig zag make beating OutRun a mixture of skill and luck, at least for me. I deserved that harem.
  15. I think it was standard practice back in the day...in Japan. Handhelds before didn't come with AAs either, nor a charger, GBA SP was probably the first Nintendo console to have it.
  16. I like the regular New 3DS, with its SNES buttons and slightly bigger screen. Even though I like a bigger screen, the regular 3DS screen rarely feels small to me, but the bigger the screen, the better. I still need to play on an XL to see if the screen size is worth it or if the pixel density is too low for my tastes. One thing they didn't improve enough was the camera, which is deeply disappointing. It has a better management of highlights, but it's still a crude, noisy 0.3MP sensor. They could have sprung up for a Wii U style camera (0.7MP) which is a little better but still cheap enough. I wouldn't mind a good 0.3MP sensor, but those sensors nowadays are made to be cheap and the overall image is crap, regardless of the resolution. It's a shame, because I like taking photos and filming in 3D with it, but it's really limited with its current quality.
  17. Yes, but the java version of Pandora Tomorrow was a side scroller that was very fun to play, and I wonder if more 2D stealth games are made nowadays. I was reminded that Call of Duty was also released on this: And Ghost Recon too.
  18. I loved my N-Gage QD back in the day, I only had Tomb Raider and Pandemonium, but java games like Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow and Worms and even some emulators (ZX Spectrum and Mega Drive worked well!) were my dirty pleasure. It's too bad they dropped MP3 and Radio for this model, but it's not a big deal now. I don't know why I have fallen off mobile gaming since I loved this system. I do have an android gamepad now, so maybe that's my cue. Maybe I'll get another QD to replace my dead one and buy Ashen, The Sims Bustin'Out and maybe Red Faction, since those were games I always wanted to play on it.
  19. Yes, they'll still have two seperate systems, maybe even three since the games could run on all of them. A console, a gamepad sized handheld and a PSP sized handheld for example.
  20. I don't know about the mainstream, but PS4 and even XBone are selling quite well, better than their predecessors actually. Isn't that what Mario Kart 8 is basically? Sure they can introduce some new quirks, but Mario Kart will be Mario Kart. The point is not releasing the same game for both platforms years apart, it's about from now on releasing the same game at the same time, cross-buy and with shared online, if indeed their platforms are "brothers in a family of systems" as Iwata put it. Edit: Miyamoto chimed in too: http://mynintendonews.com/2014/06/24/miyamoto-ponders-making-future-games-that-run-on-both-handheld-and-console/ Miyamoto: “As we move forward, we’re going to look at what we can do to unify [our console and portable] development environments.” Miyamoto: […] "but if you have a more unified development environment and you’re able to make one game that runs on both systems instead of having to make a game for each system, that’s an area of opportunity for us."
  21. Green Man Gaming is having a "VIP" sale for registered members. Resident Evil Remaster for 14.99. http://www.greenmangaming.com/vip/
  22. I hope their next game allows jumping. Too many unnecessary obstacles in the game. It would be interesting both to continue on the Alien aesthetic, but a game set between Alien 3 and Resurrection, with 3's dark ambiance and lone alien theme would be a blast to play. Maybe get Danny Webb to play Morse again. Imagine an Alien game looking like this:
  23. The thing is, many are speculating how long can Nintendo reliably support two entirely different platforms when they're being pushed by their competitors (Sony, MS, mobile) and without any third party support. That's where the unified theory comes in. Without third party support, Nintendo making Mario Kart 7 and 8 different games is just an exercise in redundancy and potentially limits the company's output for truly original games (they still put out those, but think if they didn't have to make 2 Marios, 2 Mario Karts, 2 Smash Bros., etc). Their console business, apart from the Wii anomaly, has been on a steady linear decline since the 90's. Their handheld business, while harmed by mobile, is still very successful and the choice of many for their Nintendo fix, as shown by world sales, and especially Japan's trend towards pocket gaming. They need to think if making a home console from scratch is still viable.
