  1. Does anyone know if this game is being sold anywhere? I was sadly not at the convention to pick this up, and I would love to buy and play this. I checked the IntellivisionRevolution site and this game was not listed for sale. Sorry if this is a super redundant question and a million people already asked about it. I was just wondering because this port looks amazing.
  2. Man, I can't believe Atari screwed over the 7800. It totally would've outsold the NES had they released it in 1984! Anyway, what are your favorite 7800 games? Also, how can I mod my 7800 to support HDMI? And how was Atari allowed to port the three Nintendo games when the NES already existed? By the way, here's my super awesome game concept that will never get made.
  3. Add me to the list too! This is one of my all time favorite arcade games and this 7800 port is a work of art. I didn't get to buy the game physically when it was on the store, and I would buy the ROM for this in a heartbeat!
  4. Thank you so much for sharing these, Bob! Your work (along with Rikki & Vikki) was what inspired me to get into the 7800 homebrew scene. You didn't have to do all this, but we greatly appreciate your generosity. I'll definitely be playing some Scramble and Super Pac-Man later tonight!
  5. Damn. I'm really sad to see all these games go, but I understand why. Not to be a ROM beggar, but I really hope that some of these games will at least get a digital release from their original developers. Kinda like what Champ Games have been doing. I wouldn't even mind paying for them! I just really don't want any of these to be gone forever. With that being said, I'm optimistic about the turn towards more original content on the store. I'm interested in seeing what new games will be released in the future.

  7. You have a super charming art style for your games, and this one is no exception. Kinda reminds me of black box era NES games (maybe a little Ice Climber and Gyromite?). The game is pretty fun so far! I like the puzzle solving mixed with action sequences. Keep up the good work!

  9. It's not cute or quirky to acknowledge that you post way too much. Instead of making the problem worse by making ANOTHER post acknowledging it, listen to people and stop doing it. But knowing your history, that's not gonna happen.
  10. If Punch-Out for 7800 ever happens, I'd love to help with music and sound effects! I think it would be a great game for the system, because it would make a nice technical showpiece while having fairly simple gameplay.

  12. Apparently, this is what the 7800 version would have looked like. However, I don't know if this is really for the 7800. It could just be a screenshot of the Atari 8-Bit port or something. Personally, I never cared much for the stick people graphics of the original, and the game could take greater advantage of the 7800's graphical capabilities. Maybe I'll try redrawing the Hudson Soft version's sprites later.
  13. Fair enough. I'm sorry about that. I was trying to be funny, but I might have went too far and this was probably the wrong place to post that. Before I potentially get crucified for that post, I do wanna actually be serious for a moment. Being 19 years old and having first joined a forum when I was way too young to do so, I can actually relate to what Ecernosoft is going through. I don't want to make it like I'm defending him, but I did a lot of the same things he did. I had done stuff like making accessive posts, apologizing a ton, and threatening to leave whatever website I was on. However, this was all years ago during elementary/middle school. And as I got older, I learned more about what and what not to do on forums. It all comes from experience. However, you are supposed to grow and learn from these experiences, which Ecernosoft. The fact that they have been on the forum for less than a year and have already made 1,000 posts is concerning already. But it's the general lack of willingness to cooperate and learn that is most upsetting. I don't know what could be done to help the guy. I know that people here have already said a lot to him about improving. However, from my personal experience, maybe it would be for the best for him to leave. Or at least take a break and stop posting. Maybe look at other similar communities and observe what they do. Actually make an effort to learn from them. I know this probably won't happen, but I figured I should at least share my perspective on this subject.

  15. Finished some more Toypop characters! Y'know, I was working on a remake of this game a while back, and I still have all that code saved. Maybe it could rewrite it for the 7800 and get a port of this game started. Hmm...
  16. I wholeheartedly agree with your post, @x=usr(1536)! That's partially why I want to see Toypop on the 7800. Before it was a part of Namco Museum Vol. 1 on the PS1, the only home port it ever got was on the Sharp X1 in Japan. The original arcade game never even saw a western release. Hell, a lot of Namco's mid 80's catalog falls into that same boat, as a lot of those games were never released outside of Japan. And what home ports they got were very limited. So yeah, I think it would be great to see these games on 7800 just for people to have other options for playing them. I know that someone started a port of Motos a while back, and I would love to see that get finished one day.
  17. I had the honor of beta testing this game, and I just wanna say that I'm really thankful for @playsoftgiving me this opportunity. This is a fantastic shooter and it easily destroys a lot of the other console ports of this game. I can't wait for everyone else here to be able to play it, because it is a work of art. And I hope that we can work on more stuff together in the future, Paul!
  18. A lot of games I have wanted to be on the 7800 have already been put on it thanks to homebrew devs, and I cannot thank them enough for their efforts. Frogger, Q*Bert, the upcoming Popeye and Mario Bros. ports, and even Baby Pac-Man, which I thought would never be ported to anything because nobody cared about it. How wrong I was, and I'm glad I was wrong because we got a fantastic 7800 port of it! However, there are still quite a few gaps in the 7800's library. Of course, the obvious suggestions would be NES games, although I'm not sure how well the more complex games would run on it (Kirby's Adventure, anyone?). As for arcade games, this thread already has a lot of great suggestions. But I have a few more obscure games that I would love to see get a port one day. Maybe I'll do some mock ups and music for them later, just to have something to work off of if these games ever become a reality. Toypop (Namco/1986) - It's a childhood favorite of mine. I love this game's cute fantasy storybook aesthetic, and I always thought the gameplay was really clever. I imagine Pokey could replicate that tack piano sound of the arcade music very well. Gyruss (Konami/1983) - Another one of my favorite arcade games. The NES version is especially great, as it adds some new content like boss fights and stuff. It would be cool to have a 7800 version that also adds some of those bonus features. Rainbow Islands (Taito/1987) - For the novelty of having a vertical platformer on the system, I think this one would be cool to see. Ice Climber would be a good candidate too, but I think Rainbow Islands has much better gameplay. Donkey Kong 3 (Nintendo/1983) - Kind of the ugly duckling of the original Donkey Kong trilogy, but I personally love it. This game was done dirty back then, and it deserved to be ported to a lot more systems. How can you go wrong with blasting bugs? Pac-Mania (Namco/1987) - This was another game that was ported to everything, but the 7800 should get a version as well. It's a really solid Pac-Man game with great music. The Yamaha sound hardware would be a great fit for this game. Splatterhouse (Namco/1988) - To be honest, I don't think the 7800 could even handle this game. But it's another one of my favorite arcade games. And while I don't think the 7800 could handle all the gory details, the gameplay could translate over nicely.
  19. I think Atari would have had a better chance if they just didn't do the 5200 altogether. While the 7800's games may not have been cutting edge even when they were released, they at least got some cool original games later on. Atari 5200 had pretty much nothing original on it, except for maybe Countermeasure and Meteorites (which is just an Asteroids clone anyway). The best bet for Atari would have probably been to skip the 5200 and release the 7800 when they initially intended. But even still, they needed a killer game line up to stand up to the upcoming competition. Whatever could have happened, history has already played out and I think it was for the better.
  20. Yeah, that's actually what I meant to say. Sorry for the wall of text earlier. Now then, time to discuss why video games are horrible because everyone's playing those now instead of with rocks and sticks. It's a miracle that video games are selling like hot cakes when they have such stiff competition from the rock and stick industry.

  22. Really not a fan of the NES slander in this thread. I get that it's on an Atari themed forum, but I don't think it's fair to say that the system and its games were dogshit or anything like that. I personally love both the NES and the Atari 7800. I don't think there needs to be any sort of competition between them. They're both great for their own reasons. While it's fair to say that Nintendo didn't invent most of the things people claim they did, what they had going for them was that they made these ideas for accessible. For example, it's true that adventure games and RPGs existed before Zelda. However, Zelda was instantly more accessible than any of those because of its simpler design. You get movement, a sword button, and a button for secondary weapons. That's it. No need for a full keyboard. And the way you got upgrades made a lot more sense than something like Tower of Druaga, while required you to complete objectives that the game never told you about. And if you didn't, the game would be literally unwinnable in some situations. Zelda was more friendly, as there were no situations where you could get stuck. There was always a way to keep going, and there were usually people to talk to for hints. It was quite forward thinking for its time, and certainly a step up from Adventure (though I love that game too). I don't think it's fair to say that a console sucked just because you only happened to play crap games for it. You could do the same for any console. As an example, I think the Atari 7800 is crap because I only played Karateka, Tower Toppler, Touchdown Football, and none of the games that people actually remember it for. Now that's not exactly fair, is it? Every console has its fair share of crap games, but every console had its gems. There are also some claims in this thread that just seem insane to me. Like Duck Hunt ripped off some random Atari game called Qwak? As if duck hunting wasn't already something people did for sport and there weren't already arcade attractions that involved shooting ducks. And Excitebike ripping off Stunt Cycle? Other than the fact that they're both bike games, they have nothing in common with each other. Is Kikstart on the C64 a rip off of Stunt Cycle? Is California Games ripping off Stunt Cycle just because it has a bike minigame? Or would you rather claim that Nintendo is ripping it off because you want to epically own the soyboy Nintendo fans? I hope for as long as I stay on this forum, I don't see anymore threads comparing the NES and 7800. It's interesting to look at the "what if's" and discuss how the 7800 could have been more successful. But that's all they are, just hypotheticals. In the end, the NES became the big hit in the USA and that's that. But really, both the 7800 and NES kick ass, no matter how successful either one was. And I'm gonna leave it at that.
