I think I'm in love!

Games you're ashamed it took you too long to get.
classicgamingguy replied to Atarifever's topic in Atari 2600
As many games as I've seen (either here or elsewhere), there's a ton I never owned. There's a few I still need to get now that I did have as a kid (like Space Invaders), and I'm kinda ashamed it wasn't one I attempted to collect first. Oh well, plenty of time to get all of them..the ones I don't have at the moment I can always play on Stella. -Steve -
Very nice find, and congratulations to you. -Steve

Sounds like a personal gauntlet has been thrown down!! Great game, though...I shall not attempt to best that score myself.

If that's the game you bought from me, then it is the original factory seal. I have never nor will I sell a re-sealed game (I may sell the Music Machine repo that I got from CPUWIZ). If you are unhappy with it, send it back and I'll refund your money. Tony Tony, no worries. The only reason I questioned it is because of the way the seal looked, so no offense meant to you personally about this. I'd prefer to keep it, thanks...it's still Phoenix, and that's a game I've always enjoyed. I'm still in the middle of a major learning curve with all this stuff. -Steve

new pacman museum online, is this factoid accurate?

Thanks, Dauber. That helped a lot. Nice to be able to clarify some of these stories from the bygone days! Steve -

I don't remember ever hearing that aspect of the story for Pac Man. Some more facts would be nice, if someone could find that particular tidbit somewhere at post it here.. -Steve -
That does sound great, actually. I've always loved Dragonfire, and a remake would be awesome. -Steve

Hmm, I really didn't look that close, but I'll take a look at it tonight. I'll let you know more tomorrow, as I don't have it with me right now. Sometimes I do carry the manuals around with me.

Matt, just sent you another PM regarding those pics. Thanks. Steve

Poor Iwan..I feel kinda sorry for him.. Just opened the Phoenix box last night..and my surprise was that the manual was in black and white! Did Atari get cheap toward the end of their lifespan? I figured it would be in color, but the darn thing is entirely in black and white, AND six different languages. Darn it. No great loss to open that one, but I was disappointed in the manual format. I thought of you, Iwan, as that knife slid along the seal with a satisfying ease.. Demon attack (which was in a clear box, not sealed though) had the black insert...which impressed me, as 9 times out of 10 whenever I got an Imagic game, the black insert was gone. -Steve

Well...uhm...around this site, absolutely NOTHING wrong with it! -Steve

Hmm, I seem to remember you mentioning something about sealed games in another post.. And THIS comes from a guy in an army helmet, with a rubber duckie, in a bathtub naked with 2600 games! (I'm assuming Iwan was naked..I certainly didn't want to check... )
-
Okay, so it wasn't that big a deal, I suppose. I prefer (as was posted) to play the games, and caress the pages of the instruction manuals freely and without restraint..
-
Well, that's a good question. I would have to say, "yes", they could have done a much better job with it than was done. Probably (with their programming magic) they could have at least made the ghosts flicker-free...and I can almost guarentee it would have been cleaned up to be more recognizable. -Steve

Yes...the smell seemed preserved for the quarter-century or so it had been sealed. It felt like I was back in the stores of the "old days" actually going through the shelves and finding tons of sealed Atari 2600 games!! ............I guess tonight Phoenix is about to be opened as well..
-
But....are Atari 2600 games more valuable sealed verses opened? I mean original seals, not re-sealed games..
-
Hi, folks. Recently, I got a few boxed games, two of which were completely sealed (note the "were" part). Yar's Revenge looked like it was factory sealed, and I promised myself I wouldn't open it. Well............. guess what I did? Yes..for the comic alone, I opened the game and (carefully) opened the top of the box. Everything was inside, and the comic was a marvel to behold, read, and enjoy once again. I realize now (it's like waking up the next day from an all-nighter in your local watering hole) that I really should have kept it sealed, but I just couldn't resist!! I also have a Phoenix sealed, but I think it's been "re-sealed". Still, I don't want to open it after my little fiasco with Yar's Revenge. Anyone else go through this irresistable urge to do something you shouldn't in gaming terms? Ever have a completely sealed copy of a 2600 game that you just couldn't stop yourself from opening? I am not even sure how "valuable" originally sealed 2600 games are these days, but my Yar's Revenge certainly isn't anymore!! Ahh, but it sure was worth it to take a gander at the unblemished comic book again. GREAT stuff from the day!! -Steve

Decided to go after Todd Rogers Galaxian record this summer

Homer, thanks for the detailed information on the aliens behavior at that level. Simply amazing. Steve -
I guess I'm going to have to stand up for Activision, since I've always loved their games...while I'm not disagreeing that Activision titles were similar to some Atari titles, they certainly improved upon them enough to make them each unique. David Crane will always have a piece of my heart for making Pitfall. That was pretty original, IMO. I love Imagic as well, but Activision has my "two thumbs up" award for making great games flicker free, colorful, and a blast to play. -Steve

I'm sure there's a box or two out there on Ebay for sale, but I'm not that interested in collecting it. Knowing me, I'd be tempted to open it and eat the cereal, thus ruining the collecting aspect of it!!
