Pac-Man stuff at EB/Gamestop?
classicgamingguy replied to Clint Thompson's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Yeah, now that you mention it. There IS always Pac Man memorabilia down at our local gamestop..keychains, things like that. Hmmm, perhaps it's time to go down there and buy some of it. Steve -
Congratulations and happy birthday to my favorite video game character! Steve

Most game played on a daily basis
classicgamingguy replied to classicgamingguy's topic in Atari 2600
Keilbaca, I would develop a love affair for it, I'm sure, but I don't have the game. I'll have to take your word for it. lol Steve -
That reminds me..I should dig out my Vader and see what state it's in. IF I packed it well enough it should work just fine. I'm not sure if I have any controllers with it or not. Hmmm.. Steve

Hey, thanks for the information. The controllers will be on their way to Crossbow today for a repair/replace. Once again, thanks everyone for your help in this matter. After reading that article, I see this is a very common problem due to the dating of the sticks. I can see WHY (after opening it up myself) these things break down from age. Steve

Bry: Thanks for the advice. Most appreciated. Perhaps when I get more "technical" down the road I'll do this sort of thing. Steve
-
Thanks, JB. Most kind. I can't believe (still) that with those simple instructions you gave me I put it back together, lickity split. Wow...I CAN do some of that "stuff" after all. Steve
-
JB, I got the controller back together much better than my last attempt, thanks to you. You are a good guide for a newbie. Crossbow, PM read and sent two back. Sorry, got carried away there. lol I appreciate everyone's help thus far. You've all been most kind. Hopefully Crossbow can assist me. Steve
-
JB: Okay, I'll try that to at least get it back together. I knew you'd come to my rescue. Steve
-
ARGH! Well, thanks anyway, Keilbaca. I appreciate it.

Hi, everyone. The controllers, sadly, don't work. Oh, for those wondering what this post is about, I got a 5200 today! Anyway, for those of you following my saga, I plugged everything in, the system powers up fine. The game comes up fine, but the controllers are non functional. Specifially, the game start, reset, and other keypad functions do not work. Correction: The * and # keys do work. It's just the top three. Okay, now THIS is why I shouldn't mess around with wiring and electronics. Example follows: I thought I could attempt to "fix" it myself. Upon opening it, I couldn't fix it of course (should have known..lol) and now it won't go back together. ARGH! If anyone can refurbish these for me, I would be ETERNALLY in your debt. Please PM me if you can, where to send them, and how much you charge. I really could use these redone and tested to make them playable. I promise to pack them nicely and send them to you expediently. Thanks, all. Hope someone out there can give me a hand, since I'm way all thumbs. Steve Edit: If you can just get one working, and have to strip the other one to do it, that's completely fine. I would sacrifice one to get one working, at least.

Yeah, I stand corrected. I suppose you shouldn't jump to conclusions, and give him the benefit of the doubt. Could have been a tragic loss in his family, himself. something else. Like someone told me the other day, and I'm quoting: This guy is in front of you in his car, and going slowely...slower than everyone else. You angrily honk the horn, and the guy flips you off. You're angry, upset, etc. ..do you know why? Reason that you'll never know: The guy just lost a family member in a tragic accident...and you're there jumping to conclusions.. My bad... Steve

How do you store your 5200 controllers (cords)?
classicgamingguy replied to RangerG's topic in Atari 5200
Ack! I think I'd rather leave the cables straight myself. Of course when it was shipped to me it was wound tightly and stored in the little compartment. It remains to be seen whether either of these controllers got broke. Just don't want to abuse my baby... *croon* Steve -
Lord Helmet: Yeah, that's what I figured. It's a two-port model, so a regular switchbox should work just fine. I have another question: Will the switchbox for the 2600 work for the 5200? And yes, I have the little adapter thingie (heh, good description, huh?) because I don't own a TV set that has VHF screws in the back. Steve

Hiya, everyone. This is an update to my post regarding getting an Atari 5200. It just came in the mail today, so everything is good. The Wico stick is a 9-pin connector, so I don't think it'll work on the 5200 (unless those have a 9-pin connector, which I'm not sure of). Got everything as promised except the RF switch. LOL...anyway, I wrote the guy and his response was, "Crap. Sorry. I'll look for it." Heh, so much for playing it tonight, eh? Well, that's okay. I can go home and set it up where I want it, then oogle over it all night long. The boxes he shipped with it are the original boxes, but broken down. I'd like to reassemble them, but I need some recommendations on how to do that without taping it up and making it look like garbage. The system is clean, the games look spot-on, and everything else is in great shape. I'm a very happy camper! Edit: Didn't expect TWO 5200 controllers, but there was an extra one all stored nice and neat. The box is now reassembled and the system/games are in there. If for some reason the guy can't find the RF switch, I'll go to Radio Shack and pick up the one everyone advertises here. And yes, I can breath easier...the system is a two-port system. Steve

I ALMOST bid on this, by the way. Heh, and yes, I understand it takes some to ship, but that kinda stayed my hand. Damn tempation! Steve -

I notice Phoenix keeps showing up on the list.. What about that game makes you want to keep coming back to it? For me, it's the addictiveness, pure and simple. Steve -

why do some auctions get nothing?
classicgamingguy replied to RickHarrisMaine's topic in Auction Central
Rick: I've noticed this as well. Perhaps it has to do with the seller, their selling history and follow-through's on their products. I think, however, since there's so much of a variety on similar products it might have a little to do with "pick and choose", also the price offered (starting bids) at the time of the auction. Some auctions, however, don't get started until later on, when time gets shorter until the auction actually closes down. I've had this happen. Placing a bid with a seller, nothing for several days from anyone else, then BOOM! I get outbid at the last minute. Well, just my two cents worth. Shutting up now. lol Steve -
Hmmm, no, actually. When I've played Kaboom! in the past, I didn't have any problems. I've never suffered any sort of "motion sickness" when playing games, first person or otherwise. I would offer you some advice, however: Take this game in moderation to prevent nausea and passing out. Sounds like you're on the fringe of some minor health issues from playing this game extended periods!! Steve

Mindfield, you are TOO much. lol... Steve -
Hi, everyone: Just a small inquiry to see if anyone has an Atari 5200 trackball controller (spare) available for sale or trading. Please PM me if you are willing to part with one. Thanks! Steve

Did I go too far? A testament to my bidding addiction.
classicgamingguy replied to shep's topic in Auction Central
Yah, this is easy to do, especially when the bidding starts out small and grows in increments that your pocketbook can handle. But, if you keep bidding and bidding and bidding (follow through here..), you can get in major trouble if you win. I tend to place a bid, then if I'm still interested in the item after someone else bids on it, I'll place another bid. However, after a couple of times I'll tend to back off on the auction. Safer that way, but if it's something I REALLY want (and I have to have that conversation with myself), I might continue for a few more bids. Some items can get ridiculously high...you have to know where to draw the line..of course most of this depends on your cash flow... Steve -
What Atari 2600 game does everyone play the most of every day? Which one do you go back to or keep hitting "game reset"? Here's my small list: Berzerk Phoenix Galaxian Ms. Pac Man Wizard of Wor Steve
