Looking back at most of the 2600 games, I find them laughably tame by today's standards. But yes, Texas Chainsaw Massicare (please forgive the spelling...it's early here yet..lol) and Halloween were among the most "violent" of the lineup. I mean, playing Adventure, for example. When you "stab" the dragon, his head reels back accompanied by a sound.. When I think of some of the next-gen games I've played where blood splatters all over the place, the Atari system is great for kids, with the exception of some titles. Most kids get too bored with the system and move on, of course. My step son looks at me funny when I say, "Hey, why don't you play my Atari system?"...he replies, "that old thing?"...I must be getting old. Steve

I'm not saying that Ebay is all good, however, in most of my experiences with them and the sellers, I have had NO problems. Of course there have been instances where I have been outbid. At that point it's up to the buyer to decide whether or not they are going to continue to bid. There's also a "reserve" to meet on some items, but not in all cases. For example, I have bidded on an item as of late, and so far there have been no other bids. I'm hoping I'll be the only one, but realistically, HOW many people surf Ebay everyday? I could be outbid at anytime, and that's fine. This last little venture was more of curiosity than anything else. I suggest that you don't give up on them so easily. There's many things for sale on Ebay that you could acquire. Just my two cents of course, and plenty of Odyssey carts for sale. Steve Edit: Okay, I was outbid...then I bid higher than what was listed ($15.00), and it then said, "You've been outbid..enter $16.00 or more". At that point I stopped and said, "nope, done"..just an example. I have to exceed what the last buyer put in to continue on the auction. Personally, I prefer "buy it now"..but where's the fun in that?

Thanks for all the replies. I'll browse around this site and check for a copy. This is probably a redundant question, but...WHY didn't Atari mass produce this cartridge? And what were the reasons behind this? Does this have something to do with the popularity of the system in general, or the crash of the early 80's?? Steve

I always loved the shiny boxes from Imagic..sigh... Steve

My God! This guy needs to be blackballed from selling anything else on Ebay! No wonder there's such scandal with this company. They allow things like this to happen on a regular basis...so who's fault is it really? I usually check the rating on everyone before I buy from them, just to be on the safe side. I HATE getting ripped off as much as the next guy/girl! Steve

I heard Popeye has a dry skin problem with a certain body part so every day he dips it in olive oil. 874326 Oookay, the Popeye jokes....that damn song....that damn catch phrase! Anyway, Bluto would be in your way for dipping Olive Oil...I think he might have a thing or two to say about that! Steve

New To Atari 5200, Need Help To Get Working
classicgamingguy replied to DKAudio's topic in Atari 5200
You guys are ALL WAY SMARTER than me!!! Steve -
I agree...Atari certainly beat the PSX...okay, I guess I don't want to start a PSX versus Atari war here, but I've had both, and the PSX went by the wayside while the Atari is STILL getting played every day. Ahh, life was great then, and it's even BETTER now.. Steve

Kelbaca, SELL MORE! Feed my habit!! Steve

Been on Ebay a few times, no connection problems...stop trying to use an old calculator to connect on the internet, perhaps? Steve
-
Nice sellers are few and far between (of course, everyone here is a nice seller). I ran across something I bought on Ebay, I believe it was a Player's Handbook, 1st edition. The person sent me some extra "stuff" inside the book as a bonus, plus the book was protected well and in excellent shape. Goes to show you...not everyone out there is a butt hole. Steve

I know we're mostly dealing with mental game heads
classicgamingguy replied to CPUWIZ's topic in Auction Central
Oh my God! That's............jaw dropping!!! Well, uh, I'll pass, I think. Not much into the Hardly, er, Hardy Boys anyway. Steve -
Guess it's your lucky day. I just emailed you a bunch of ultra rare games 874003 Yeah, and that bridge is still for sale, BTW... Steve

Hmmm, I'm still rather disappointed they didn't mass produce Asteroids for the system...well, I suppose one can't have every game out there. Considering the popularity of Missile Command, Pac Man, and other "hot" titles, I was hoping to add that little nitch to my upcoming 5200 system. I will notice the hole there for awhile, methinks. Now...what about someone producing a homebrew of similar intent? I don't mean Meteorites, perhaps something like "Aster-blast" or something like that. Just wishful thinking on my part, but..I'd probably buy a copy! Steve

You guys are TOO much sometimes! Hell yeah, get over there and start ripping.........tearing.........er, carefully opening boxes and checking things out. Sounds like you could score something really good. Hop to it, man! Then you can list everything here and trade 'em!! Steve -
Yeah, I liked that...uhm, can't think of anything off the top of my head for Atari songs from the day..anyone? Steve
-
Okay, heh...yeah, right. Now, don't get me wrong, you're intentions are....uh, admirable? Yeah, that's the polite word. Here's my strategy for getting games, and perhaps it's not the best way, but it works for me. Talk to others on the boards, yes, you heard me, TALK to everyone here, introduce yourself, post your list, chat, get friendly, be NICE and POLITE. I have picked up some great games from some great people around here. And yes, I've even had to send them a money order for some of them! Oh the horror! HAH! I don't think so. I'm more than willing to do trades and such as needed to collect some of the games I really want. How about yard saling? You never know what you'll find in someone else's stuff...they might have just the game you want that they consider junk! Or you could beg like you're doing...sometimes that works, but I don't think anyone around here's going to fall for it. Steve

Yeah, even the crappy games. They are a part of the Atari collection, even if they really stink. That way you can say "yeah, I have that game". Some games from the past really make you cringe in rememberance. Well, as was stated on another post somewhere, Pac Man gets a bad rap for being totally crappy, mostly because it's not a "faithful" translation. But it's still a proud part of my collection, despite that fact. And yes, E.T. as well. Steve

Thanks, Tempest. I'll check it out. Steve Edit: Yeah, I like the looks of Meteorites. Hmm, anyone have a spare? Yeah, right!!!! Steve

What is the worst 2600 game you have played?
classicgamingguy replied to Retro Gamer's topic in Atari 2600
Hmm, I just picked up this game and rather enjoy it, despite it's collision detection problems. I always loved swooping down and picking up the little buggers. Steve -

Very nice! Too bad I can't afford it..sigh.. Steve -
I'm assuming the prototype is virtually unattainable, therefore, what is a good Asteroids-like game I could/should get for the system? Steve
-
Yes, and thanks. I was most curious about this, as I love the 2600 version (and all it's faults), but wanted a version for my 5200 (when I get it). Thank you, Lord Thag... Steve
-
Hi, all: I have a few questions regarding the 5200 version of Asteroids. First, I realize it's just a prototype...how many were made? And did it ever get sold in it's retail format? How readily available is it to get or how hard? This game has eluded me, but I understand why. How many of you own a copy of this, if anyone? Thanks, all. Help me solve my great mystery. Steve

Hi, everyone: You'll forgive this post for being here, but since I can't seem to remember names to PM to (and I didn't save the original PM's...my bad), here's a thank you to: The person who sent me Wizard of Wor for the 2600.. THANK YOU!! The person who sent me the Galaxian manual for the 2600 version...THANK YOU! You're gift is on it's way!! I've had nothing but great experiences here trading and buying. You are ALL THE BEST! Steve
