Hmmm, it DOES grab your attention...drew my eyes right to it. Steve P.S.-Which is a BAAAD thing for my wallet! lol

This is one of the reasons I love this site...I can depend on you guys to STOP me from making rash decisions.... Steve

Hiya! I have the 32X module, but no cables with it. If you're interested, PM me and we'll do a deal. Steve Edit: I'll trade you the unit for a couple of 5200 games, if you have any extras you're willing to part with.

If only you had said, "blow me down" instead. 873054 Blow me down! *ahem* I remember this game for the 2600...I had it once upon a time and I remember playing it for hours and hours. Steve

Intellivision I vs. Sears Super Video Arcade
classicgamingguy replied to RangerG's topic in Classic Console Discussion
No no, you're not alone. My friend had one of these when I was younger, and enjoyed playing it immensly. It wasn't enough to sway me away from Atari, however. EDIT: Wow! I'm a chopper commander now! Steve -
Great job! I was looking for something like this, actually. From backgrounds to screensaves, I want to fill my world with Atari. Excellent work. Steve

Hmmm, I guess I really won't know until it arrives and I try it out. I'll post here when I find out what system the stick goes for. I'm going to assume at this point the 5200. Well, we'll see. Edit: Okay, I have been informed that my system is shipping out *this week* HAPPY DANCE!!! Anyway, once I get it unpacked I'll let everyone know more about it. I'm sure you won't be able to shut me up about it. Steve
-
Wow, I didn't expect to get this level of response! Thanks everyone for the opinions and facts. I think I'm going to be very happy with this system when it arrives next week. As much as emulation lets you turn your computer into an arcade machine, there's still nothing like playing these classic games on a home console system, IMO. Question: Does anyone have any links to the 5200 in action? I'd love to see it playing games like Missile Command or Galaxian.. Steve
-
Thanks again, everyone. Great input on this. Steve

Thanks for the tips on cleaning the outside of the console! Much appreciated! Steve

Hi, everyone. Does anyone have a copy of Rescue on Fractalus for the Atari 5200? PM me if you do. Will buy or trade. Thanks! Steve

I've never seen the coin slot on an Atari 5200 , so no it doesn't say "coin detected in pocket", but it does have the greatest hits like, "fight like a robot", and "the humanoid must not escape." (Those quotes may not be 100% accurate, forgive my stupidity in advance if applicable ) 871975 Well, I was thinking for authenticity, but you are absolutely right..thanks for the clarification. Any little bit helps. Steve

Very good idea! Thanks. Steve

Okay, how about Prince? Prince Atari would work for me... *shamless plug* Anyway, I've always been a big fan of arcade ports that duplicate the sounds, you know, like when Pac Man dies, eats a dot or ghost, etc. Those things send tingles through me when playing at home. Am I obsessed? Hmm In particular the 5200 version of Pac Man..does it sound the same as the arcade coin op? What about Berzerk with it's voice enhancement? Does it say, "Coin detected in pocket"?? Steve

Are home conversions the same as the arcade?
classicgamingguy replied to Foxsolo2000's topic in Arcade and Pinball
From my understanding of the whole arcade phenomenon, the reason that the arcades went out was due at least in part to the home console revolution. The crash didn't help either format, and as games got "better" and more powerful home consoles joined the band wagon, arcades were dwindling in popularity (and population). We had an arcade in Hanover New Hampshire called "Putts Alley", that was down in a nice, cool basement where all the kids would go after school (and the ones that cut class were there as well). I spent a good portion of my time there, just enjoying the noise, comradere, and sensations that one would get from being in a room crammed full of people and coin ops. With the advent of emulation, arcade quality gaming became more readily available on people's PC systems, duplicating to near perfection the way they used to play in those dimly-lit rooms. And it was always nicer to be "at home" enjoying the experience from your domicile's comfort. Still, sadly, I miss them to this day, how they brought us kids together for some fun. The arcades in the UK will probably go the same way as the US ones did in a short period of time. Steve -
ColecoVision rules all! 871914 Heh...no, I don't think so, buddy... Seriously, though, I did play the Colecovision alot as a kid (my friend had one, come to think of it, my friend had one of everything), and I still prefered the 2600 over it. Yes, yes, the graphics are better, but Atari is king!
-
Well, from my point of view, I can't even comment on the 7800 editions. You see, I've never even SEEN a 7800 much less played one. So I'm out of this one.
-
Well, uh..lol. Yeah, I would imagine so. Heck, I'm impressed with some of the arcade ports to the 2600 (Ms. Pac Man in particular), but mostly I was wondering about Pac Man. I know how aweful it is for the 2600 (In my opinion, of course), and it looks absolutely gorgeous on the 5200. Steve
-
Hi, everyone: Just how does the 5200 games compare to their arcade counterparts? I'm kinda curious to know, as I've never even SEEN a 5200 in action before. Anyone? Steve
-
I remember Frenzy...and I am rather disappointed the home version was never made. I think my old arcade used to have Berzerk and Frenzy side by side...what a classic duo. I wish it was possible to remake it for the 5200.. That would be too cool!!

Guilty 2600 Pleasure (I know it's been done...)
classicgamingguy replied to dragonpup's topic in Atari 2600
Yeah, I have to agree with you there. But something terrible happens when I play Pac Man for the 2600. I KEEP PLAYING!!!! -
If it's genuinely a digital stick intended for the 2600 and company, it won't work anyways, as the 5200 uses a single potentiometer to determine direction instead of a pair of switches. 871376 Hrm...I won't know for sure what it is until I receive it. I'll let everyone know as soon as I try to plug it in. Perhaps the adapter connectors are with it. It doesn't make sense to me to sell a stick with a system you can't use on the system, but one never knows. Steve

I REALLY will need to hide my head in absolute shame after this....playing Pac Man on the Atari 2600...*boing boing boing boing*..heh, okay, so I'm lame, what can I say..?? This game still brings back memories. The bland sounds, the aweful graphics, the terrible gameplay, the blase ghosts...ahh, I love it all. -
Hrm, well that's all good, actually. If the connectors aren't included, I have a NEW controller for my 2600!! Never heard of the Wico Bat, however. Something else I missed growing up. Glad I'm collecting today. I'm learning alot more now than I ever did when I was younger.
