There's always a million stories about Gamestop, and it's employees. My local one has radically changed that I hardly recognize it when I walk in. The guys there are all decked out "Goth" style with lots of piercings. And this is acceptable dress for a working environment? I guess things really have changed! Sorry to hear you had an aweful encounter. My recent "encounter" was nowhere near that bad. BUT, I should know better than to do trade ins at this place. You get almost nothing back and end up still having to pay out. I should have kept those games (sports titles and a racing game) but I just wanted them gone. They didn't fit the library of Gamecube games I'm currently acquiring. The employee I was dealing with kept trying to get me to purchase the "Edge" card. Which I probably should have done, since I'll be stopping in there more often now to get used GC games, but he irritated me with the "over and over again" sales pitch. Just sell me the game I want and let me leave, would you?? -Steve

We all realize that Nintendo has taken "risks" with some of their console designs (Virtual Boy, for example). I think my issue is that Nintendo has indicated the Gamecube a "failure", but I heavily disagree. Understandably, it's your own personal point of view, and remember we as the consumers support these companies (hence the reports of sales generated, compared to other consoles in Nintendo's lineup, equals failure at the dollar level/unit level). If you look at the bottom line then yes, the Gamecube "failed" NINTENDO's expectations and profit margin. Then the fans get involved, those that stand behind the Gamecube, and consider it a huge "success". I personally love the Gamecube, and wouldn't trade it or sell it. I wonder how many people actually carried their Gamecubes to their friend's houses to play some games? I mean, someone around here must have used the handle at some point? Did any of you do this? My other question is this: IS the Wii a "huge success"? Did it meet or beat Nintendo's expectations? Is it super popular? I never "got into it" because if I owned a Wii, it wouldn't go online. Doesn't the system boast online capabilities? Is that the key selling point of the system? What type of system (do you think) is it if it never goes online? How much "fun" can you have with the system if you don't have anyone to play games with? Just a few more questions and comments. Steve

I also agree that timers need to STAY OUT of RPG's. I enjoy the strategic element, the fact that I can take my time with moves or whatnot and NOT have to worry about hurrying. In the FF series, the "timer" was when you had your turn for a move, if you didn't decide, the enemy then would be able to go. I think you could turn this off, however. Steve

Good points. I don't think I ever saw how disappointing the Gamecube was to some around here in the games available department. I was totally impressed with it after owning the previous systems (NES, SNES, and N64), and applauded Nintendo for taking the bold step into the disc media storage realm. Shocked me that they did the "smaller" disc thing. Why DID they do that, anyway? It still puzzles me about the format that they went with. But my question is to everyone here: How collectible is the Gamecube versus other systems of the previous day? Is it in high demand, or just for casual collectors that have to have all the Nintendo game systems? What about games? How collectible are those? Easy to find or hard to find? I personally (in this area) have no trouble. Gamestop has a tremendous volume of Gamecube games, but they've condensed them down to a spinner rack, and aren't displayed on the wall anymore. Do I need to start worrying about collecting certain games or will I be okay with my searches down the road? -Steve

My first one, back in the day with my first Atari 2600, was Asteroids. I thought it was Space Invaders, but I remember my brother's Atari 2600 in his apartment had Asteroids in it, and that's the one I really wanted. My second Atari 2600 was Demon Attack. THAT is a great game from Imagic I could play until my hands fall off. Oh yeah, the Asteroids game was the picture label variation. -Steve

Mario: Love him or Hate him?
classicgamingguy replied to cimerians's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Not sure if anyone here mentioned this version, but: For the Gameboy Advance, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga has a really fun version in it as a bonus game. I loved when Nintendo did that...throw in something for free. Two games for the price of one! -Steve -
GREAT find for 5 bucks, I have to say. I wasn't about to negotiate over the $35.00 price with almost 10 games, two controllers, two memory cards, and ALL the other hookups. I just snatched it up as soon as physically possible, but of course I didn't want to seem TOO eager. In all my years of GC gaming, I have never had one problem with any of the controllers, period. Seems I've been lucky, but the system seems virtually indestructible. It's a unique system of it's own right, however, so I figured now is a good time to collect some of the titles I so enjoyed when it was first released and then shortly thereafter (Tales of Symphonia, Zelda, Metroid, etc.). Since I have no plans to get a Wii in the near future, I figure that the Gamecube (along with my Atari 2600) should keep me "busy" collecting and playing for the next 10 years, at least. Does anyone think the system is collectible now, or is it still too early to place a "collector" label on the game system? With the games being backward compatible with the Wii, does this affect it's status as being a collector's item? Thanks everyone for all the responses so far. Great stories. -Steve

Sweet, and congratulations to you for scoring these titles. -Steve

My first impression of the Gamecube was the fact that it's discs were 50 percent SMALLER than anything I had seen before. We all know Nintendo...how "unique" some of it's ideas have been over the years, and I feel that makes the Gamecube just that much more collectible. I personally loved the idea of smaller discs versus larger discs. -Steve

This past 4th of July weekend, I went to a yard sale early, hoping to find a game system for under $40.00 with some games. Lo and behold, they had SEVERAL game systems, all set out nicely. I was perhaps one of the first people at this yard sale, so I FINALLY had my pick of the litter. The systems out were PS1, Nintendo Gamecube, Nitnendo 64 (no games with this, however), and a Dreamcast. I spent perhaps 10 minutes or so looking the systems over, trying to decide. Then a little voice told me, "Get the Gamecube...you LOVE Nintendo, remember?" Yep, grabbed the box with the 9 plus games and paid $35.00 for it. Two controllers, all the hook ups, and silver in color (the controllers actually matched the system...a rarity!), plus some games I wanted, others I wanted to get rid of post-haste. Trading in the games I didn't want for Super Smash Bros. Melee, I feel that I am in 7th heaven. I missed my Gamecube when I sold it, and now I have one again I'm not likely to part with. Anyone out there have a Gamecube (not a Wii...I know it plays GC games)? Anyone still collecting for this system? Who here likes the Gamecube? I realize the system got mediocre attention at best, but I find the system innovative in oh so many ways. Love the mini disc!! Tell your stories here! Show your love for this often neglected system! Steve Link to my Gamecube!

Like any other systems on the market, it depends on your personal standpoint. What do you want? Do you want cameras on the system? Upgraded software? Yes, the software plays the same on both DS's (Lite and DSI), but for the extra functionality, some might pay the extra price to get the extras. I've owned a DS phat, and a DS Lite, but had no desire for the DSi. In fact, I lost my desire entirely for the DS. I found myself playing more Gba games than DS games, so I just went back to my GbaSp and got rid of my DS. I mean, if I had the money and didn't mind the fact that it doesn't play Gba games, then I'd get one. However, my Gba plays the games I really like, so I'll stick with that. I still have a million games to get for my GbaSp AND Gamecube, so I really have no immediate plans to get a DSi. Just my 2 cents........ Steve

What system is that for? I've been playing Titan Quest: Immortal Throne on my PC a LOT lately. I've made several characters (without cheats or trainers) and my Earth Mage is around level 31 now. Love this game! Also, with the addition of my new (used) Gamecube, I've been playing Super Smash Bros. Melee to no end. Mario is my favorite character in that game. I haven't unlocked very much yet, but at the rate I'm going, I probably will in no time. On my Gameboy Advance Sp, I've been playing Pokemon: Emerald. Love that game, too. -Steve

I'm going to have to agree with Phil on this. I know it would be a pain, but keeping your collectibles would definitely benefit you down the road, instead of having to start all over again. I know from personal experience that this hurts in the long run. I have just recently started collecting game systems again (Atari 2600 and Nintendo Gamecube plus Gba Sp), and I WISH I would have kept all the stuff I had for these systems before I decided to get rid of them all. I kick myself over and over, as I had complete games for the Gba that I miss terribly to this day. AND my Gamecube collection was 100 percent better than it is now! Hopefully I've learned my lesson as of this posting NOT to give anything away or sell it again! -Steve

Great find..I went only to one yard sale this weekend, but alas there wasn't an Atari 2600 game in site. I did manage to snag a Nintedo Gamecube and games, but that's not what I was looking for! -Steve

anybody else play games on "easy" difficulty?
classicgamingguy replied to xg4bx's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Absolutely! I keep my games usually on "Easy", depending on the familiarity with the genre I'm playing (like fighting games, of which I am not all that good at). Action/adventure I tend to leave on normal, likewise with role-playing games. I usually play Super Smash Bros. Melee on "easy" and dumb down the opponents so I have a fighting chance. Once I feel comfortable at that level, I bump it up a notch. -Steve -
Mario: Love him or Hate him?
classicgamingguy replied to cimerians's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I do agree with you that Mario is WAY over-stated as a video game icon. However, having said that, this past weekend (yes, it's sad, I know) I just picked up a Gamecube specifically for Super Smash Bros. Melee and other Mario titles I want to acquire over the next several months. Click the link below to see it. Gamecube Silver Picture and Games Again, sorry for the quality of the image. Also, there's only about 4 games left, as I traded ones I didn't want for SSBM that I really wanted. -Steve -
Hi, folks. Just managed to snag a Nintendo Gamecube (silver) this past weekend for 35 bucks. I have a few games for it, but what I really want is Animal Crossing. With or without the original memory card is okay, but I'd like to get it if you have it. Otherwise, no big deal. Here's a small game list you might be interested in trading for it: James Bond: Rogue Agent True Crime: Streets of L.A. Sonic Mega Collection Marvel Super Heroes: Rise of the Imperfects If you would prefer to sell, let me know how much (with shipping) to 05052 and I'll consider your offer. Please send me a PM regarding this. Thanks! Steve

Mario: Love him or Hate him?
classicgamingguy replied to cimerians's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I've had a "falling out" with Mario and company lately. I was heavily into Nintendo for a long while, but I set him aside and picked up my Atari 2600, then got back into PC gaming. However, I play Mario on my Gba sometimes (got the Deluxe version for the Gameboy Color), so the relationship isn't entirely dead..but we're back to being "just friends"... -Steve -
Best PC games in the last 2-3 yrs. I need some.
classicgamingguy replied to Blackjack's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Most of the games I listed are around $20.00 now, so it's not too expensive to purchase. I forgot to put a plug in for Doom 3..great game, and scary in certain spots (if you like shooters). Diablo II and it's expansion are still widely played from what I've heard, and I personally enjoy the more gothic theme versus the Greek theme of Titan Quest (but Titan Quest is still my personal favorite and gets played more than my other PC games). Don't forget the compilations, such as: Atari Anniversary I and II Taito Legends Great games, and near-perfect arcade replicas. Er, sorry to ramble.. -Steve -

Live the Life Titan Quest and expansion: Immortal Throne The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Dungeon Seige II and expansion: Broken World and older yet: Freelancer-by Microsoft The Sims original version/double pack/expansions Just a few games I play a lot of on my older PC. -Steve -
Super Mario Brothers for the Atari 2600?

Awesome job! That's pretty darn unique, and a nice collector's piece. Congrat's on this latest incarnation! -Steve

You d0G! It's been pretty dry the last few weeks. I scored an NES and SNES about 6 weeks ago from a garage sale and then picked up a whole bunch of NES games at Goodwill about a month ago. I bought a Game Cube three weeks ago from Salvation Army but along with the N64 I can't get too excited since I'll never play them (my kid will though). Interesting how many systems Nintendo has released over the years. Is there much difference between an SNES, N64 and Game Cube? Are the graphics increasingly better? Maybe the wrong forum to ask... Well, since you asked... The graphics do indeed get increasingly better as you "evolve" to the next system. It's all a matter of processing power and all the technical gobbilty-gook that goes with it, but yes in general. However, I personally believe the SNES was the most fun of all of them to play with the game releases available to it. NES was almost dead even in my eyes for the fun factor and playability. Just my 2 cents, mind you. Steve
