  1. I sure would like some of those 5200 games.. but $500 is too much. You can advise him that if he wants to get $500 out of his stuff, sell them seperately on ebay. You might also tell him to sell at low or no reserve, and keep shipping reasonable. Then let us know if he takes your advice.

    Worth it?

I had bid on this, and had the opportunity to buy it now for about $98... but I didn't. Then it started getting too high. Or did it? I didn't win it (I generally don't bid much for anything, I just try to catch the occasional deal when there is little interest) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMEDW%3AIT&rd=1 My reasoning was the gold label Miner 2049er. The rarity guide only lists it at 4, but I've seen rarity 6 and 8 carts more often than this one.
  3. I noticed those too... When seller feedback is so low, I often look at all the sellers items to see who is bidding. The current high bids are mostly low-feedback users, not seasoned ebayers. Might mean something. Of course, we'll see who snipes them in the last 5 minutes.

    5200 dimensions

It's 13" x 15", and 4.25" tall. Sounds small when I actually look at the measurements, but it just has that "big" look. Probably because the cart port is larger, the joystick plugs are bigger. Kinda reminds me of two of these parked side by side:
  5. My advice to you is immediately pick up another (opened and used) 7800 system w/games if you don't already have it! Remove the temptation to open it! Then PM me with how much you want for it..
  6. Missed Ebay 101? The BIN and SB price should not be so close. Most buyers believe that you know what your item is worth, hence your BIN is your statement of what it's worth plus your expected profit. If the SB is just under it, buyers know they aren't getting a deal unless you are a clueless seller. Remember, the ebay-profiting BIN came much later than the reserve price auction... if you really are worried it's going to go to low, just use that. If you really expect the bidding to start at your higher number, lose the BIN and let the bidders wonder how much it could be worth!!!
  7. Well, I'm new to this site. But I like what I've seen so far. I would have no problem with a paypal "donation" system like many of the other special-interest sites I'm on. Something like a Bronze, Silver, and Gold membership with accompanying icon next to the user's posts. Maybe a bump-up in the marketplace forum for members. You could do it in conjunction with the ads, actually. Popups for the non-members, goes away if they become at least bronze. If you have any doubt as to whether people will continue to visit the site regardless of the amount or annoyingness of the ads, just check out the drudge report. Regularly beats out 2 of the 3 major news networks web sites, but has the spyware from hell popups constantly! It's absolutely the worst in terms of ads, as bad as any porn site I've seen.

Will measure one of my 5200s tomorrow for you. But certainly the 5200 is the biggest (in terms of size) home gaming console ever produced. Can anyone prove otherwise?? Computers excluded, of course. Otherwise I'd have to give the title to the TI 99/4a with Expansion Box....
  9. Was that on ebay, or some online store? I've been trying to win one w/box for a little while now. It looks nice, the picture looks legit. Seems like it would be difficult to shrinkwrap something so big unless it was factory, distributor, or at least a big store...
  10. I don't feel at all uncomfortable at garage/yard sales. The way I see it, just having someone standing there browsing (even if only for a minute or two), is a benefit to the sale they are having -- it's like advertising. People are more likely to notice their sale. I actually look for sales in older neighborhoods... I figure the folks in newer houses have already dumped their 20+ year old electronics. I also like flea markets, although they definitely appear more dangerous. The ones by me are practically like a third world country... you can drink and smoke while you peruse pirated stuff (Famiclones, etc), obviously stolen stuff (laptops), and of course the many booths that sell all manner of knives and swords. Add to that the fact that most of the other "shoppers" are dirt poor, and those who are not on probation are likely very drunk... at 10am. Still, the $2 beers are cheaper than I will buy at any bar, club, or sporting event... but it's not for everyone. I took my wife once, and she will never go again. What got to her were the booths selling live animals. She made me complain to the management, SPCA, and the BBB
  11. Just look up "Colbert" in an early 80's phone book from Alamogordo... should be available in a library somewhere. Keeping an interesting thread going, LOL
  12. Without question, the lamest Atari 2600 game was: Pac Man. It's not just that it was a crappy game -- there were MANY of those. It's because it was one of the biggest releases that I can remember for the 2600, very heavily anticipated. I'm not certain what the demographics of these forums are, so I don't know if any of you can relate... but I remember vividly hounding my mother to purchase the 2600 Pac Man cart the day it came out. As I recall, it was a weekday... so people were at work/school, mostly. But still lines developed, stock was depleted, full price and then some was paid. And for what? A complete POS port. Something that could only have gotten released by a company that had become slightly too big for it's vision. An emerging bureaucracy within the company that would allow complete crap to filter to the highest ranks, and get signoff to be released to the public. A company whose management had already become infiltratated by morons with no concept of technology and the video game industry. Those responsible for Pac Man on the 2600 should have been given pink slips the day they showed the first demo... Unless, of course, the 2600 Pac Man was intentionally sabatoged to sell Atari's new Advanced or Super system... which would sport a very faithful Pac Man port. Guess I wouldn't put it past the 5200 project manager to do so... I know, I know. How do I really feel? Pac Man wins the crap title in my book. [/RANT]
  13. Awesome story. I'm green with envy... Another thing I was thinking might be nice to do, if I were in your situation, is this: Since they are probably lacking in entertainment options for their common room, I'd drop them a newer system along with the 5200 you set up... like a Famiclone or something with a built in library of games. They could have the Atari for nostalgia and the newer system for a bunch of different titles...
  14. Congrats on the 5200. That's my favorite system... BIG SEXY! Unfortunately, I have to sell my collection (getting married).. in case you want some games, here are a few of my ebay auctions: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=8199318584 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=8199319399 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=8199328952 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=8199329847 Got many controllers and systems, too... PM if you need something you don't see.
