  1. Fun fact: the ancient kingdom of Shilla (신라) that was once located on the southeast of the Korean Peninsula constructed 황룡사, which literally translates to Emperor’s Dragon Temple, in AD 569. Here’s the interesting bit: the temple had a 9 story tower, and its height is estimated to be somewhere around 65-85 meters (1.5-2 times taller than the Home Insurance Building which is considered to be the first skyscraper), based on records from way back when. Sadly we’ll never find out how truly massive the ancient tower was, as it was burned down by Mongolians in AD 1238.

Attempts are being made to recreate the tower, and it’s already been done in computer simulations. Whether it should be physically rebuilt in real life is under debate.

  2. Even though Pac Man was the reigning champ for a while back in the day as far as overall popularity. It struck me that, at least where I grew up, the majority of non arcade places that had 1 or 2 games inside(convenience stores, grocery stores, restaurant/pizza waiting rooms, bowling alleys without dedicated arcade rooms, etc) all seemed to carry Galaxian pretty much across the board.

before the fighting game boom of the 90s, around here it was Super Mario Bros arcade, Tiger Heli, Operation Wolf, Out Run, Gauntlet, Double Dragon, Jurassic Park and Adams Family Pinball (although they may have came later). I remember when Street Fighter 1 was new. Galaga and Ms Pac never left. Theyre still around now.

Back then there were games everywhere. In every bar, landromat, restaurant - especially pizza places, roller skating rink, state fair, almost everywhere. arcades were more plentiful in general. Donkey Kong was around, but I agree with the kid in billy madison, DK Sucks.

Galaga and Ms Pacman where I'm from (Illinois). But I wasn't born until 1978. Death Race, Popeye, Kangaroo, Asteroids, Burgetime, Space Invaders and Zoo Keeper were others I remember seeing here or there back then. By the time I was old enough to remember things there were no Pac-Mans around. It was always a Ms Pac.

  6. Modern console remakes and FPGA clones are way too small in relation to cartridge size. Might as well plug a cart into a cart!

I must have seen it dozens of times as a kid. My parents really liked that movie. I haven't seen it in a very long time, and I was pleasantly surprised with how well it held up over time too. I could watch it again in a few days. Dabney Coleman and Henry Thomas are pretty awesome.

  8. Got pretty MK buzzed after watching the movie.  Played some rounds of MK Trilogy on the Saturn, MK II on the SNES, and as a guilty pleasure fired up MK 7 (Armageddon) on Xbox.  Good times.  Have to let myself play my favorite (MK9 on the 360 / PC) tomorrow :)

My favorite part was when Jax clapped Reiko and looked at his bionic hands and said "Yeah. These MFers work!" Lmmfao.

  10. I watched part of "Andre the Giant" last night.  I didn't realize how bad off he was physically because of his size.

IIRC Big Show and Andre were both pituitary gland giants, they just kept growing and growing all their lives. Big Show had the surgery to stop it. The surgery didn't exist when Andre was around.

I know that WWE biographies is coming, and a new season of Dark Side of the Ring on Vice too, so was wondering which one. DSotR is my jam. It got heavy handed on the anti wwe/vince stuff (deserved) later on tho. It fels heavily AEW influenced now. (aside from cornette)

I haven't seen it, but in the past they say Andre had a hard time flying, and staying in little hotels and beds in japan. toilets were too small, so he s*** in the bathtub, lmmfao. That always made me wonder where he took his shower??? they never explained that one.

I'm 42, so I only got to see him in person at the end of his career when he was very large. Those videos of him back in the day, Wowzers.

When I went to Vegas I saw a few new Pac Man arcade games a few years back. Battle Royal was one i think, another was huge vertical screen and gave tickets. I also think Anniversary edition on consoles is dope too.

I was playing this at a buddy house just a few times. playing a pacman variant with 99 other people online trying to be the sole survivor was more fun than I thought it would be. 1st game I got 18th, 3rd game I got 7th. Only reason I died is because I was still learning the rules of the game. I could tell if i practiced it for any length of time I could get be decent at it.
