  1. Legacy of the Wizard is one of the inspirations for the current game I am working on (Inferno). It's got such a strange atmosphere to it. There is basically an entire world BELOW your house. Crazy.
  2. As luck would have it. I have a spare Magic of Scheherazade and a semi-banged up Legacy of the Wizard. Deadly towers is pretty awful. I would avoid it. LotW is my absolute favorite NES game. You should look into Faxanadu also. and Battle of Olympus. Definitely. Faxanadu, Battle of Olympus and Legacy of the Wizard are all great games. Legacy of the Wizard, you will definitely want to get a FAQ or the manual, otherwise you will literally be screwed. If you'd like to partake of the Scheherazade and LOTW, lemme know. lol. Neither of them are too pricey. and they are both awesome.
  3. Yeah, it will probably take a lot longer, but it is a way better game. It and Magic of Scheherazade are easily the two most underrated, barely talked about RPGs on the NES. Ever play that one? It's great.
  4. Its not necessarily bad. It just means you won't really get into those "man, I can just breeze on through here!" things. Every battle is a battle. Though, later on towards the end, you'll basically be a party of gods. Everything dies. lol It's such a great game.
  5. You have to be careful with grinding. The game progresses with you, much like Ultima IV. If you start jacking your levels up, expect to see scary jive right outside of Montor. You should definitely take a ranger. Also, a Cleric. Using harm to blow the entire field up is pretty great.
  6. My Super Grafx or my MSX Turbo R (FSA1-GT model)
  7. Exodus is a brilliant port of Ultima III. It's a bit more rewarding than Dragon Warrior 2, if you ask me. What's fun about it is the fact that you have to explore, and that you have to map out the dungeons or you will probably get lost and die. If you don't have the instruction manual, you may want to go read a faq about all of the classes in the game so you don't setup a party that will be useless.
  8. Yeah, you could always post on the Lemon64.com forum in the Scene or Help sections. I haven't posted there in awhile.
  9. Now, onto Dragon Warrior 2! or Exodus! (start Exodus. It's great.)
  10. You can always check www.aetherbyte.com for the latest ramblings of me. I update once or twice a month and keep people informed. and you can check my youtube (www.youtube.com/aetherbyte) to see the latest footage so you know when something is about to go down. Or you can check www.pcenginefx.com for PC Engine related jive. or, i'll try to post here more often about it. but yeah, check my site. It's your best bet for my stuff at least.
  11. Its because Hot Topic only sells Nintendo paraphenelia. If it was Atari 2600 stuff they'd be like OMG SEA QUEST OMG BRO. SEAQUEST

    Zoom!

All I hvae to say is CMON BOY.
  13. YEAHHHH! now you can find the flute!
  14. Except, Super Fighter Team isn't a lone homebrewer. They just publish other peoples work, basically. Keep your eyes peeled on www.aetherbyte.com too, if you care about TurboGrafx/PCE stuff. We're making real HuCards with our games on them. There's some video footage of the thin prototypes. They are totally sexy.
  15. www.aetherbyte.com/pce_atlantean.html This is a Defender clone I am working on for the PC Engine. It's aiming to be similar, but a bit different than the original due to sprite limitations. Not having a blitter, and having larger sprites than the original means I can't have the particle explosion stuff running wild. It is coming along pretty nicely (but is on hold for an MSX development competition), and is planned to come out on an actual HuCard once completed. Then there's Pyramid Plunder: http://www.aetherbyte.com/pce_pyramid.html Which is a spiffed up Pac Man clone nearing completion, that will be out on PCE/TG-16 Super CD-ROM in the near future. Figure you guys might like to see this stuff, since they're Atari related, kinda. There's a few more videos on the youtube that you can check out too, if you like.
  16. Steam Hearts for PC Engine cost like 80 bucks, and it is pretty fun. It's harder to come by. Also, the old Ultima games are hard to come by complete these days. Ultima II big box is like 8923894729834$, and it's fun. I also spent alot for a few rarer MSX games, and they were worth it (Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, Illusion City).
  17. I learned how to punch hillbillies in the face, jump kick crocodiles, shoot down helicopters with a Jeep, and battle in the swamps with a pistol. YEAHHHHHHHHHH VIOLENCE!!!!!! I love Bayou Billy. but yeah, I learned some good hand eye coordination, I learned some musical theory from listening to the music, I learned concepts that I've applied to making games, and I learned that Halo sucks.
  18. It's kinda dumb, especially if you're doing a CD game. I don't like it. You can have the pressing house run more discs off for a lesser price than the original run because they hold on to your glass master forever and ever. Use some of the money you made from the sold out batch to get more. Odds are, if you got them pressed, you have at least 300 discs. If you sold out, you definitely made enough money to press more, unless you sold the games for like, a penny. With cartridge games, it's kind of lame too. A little less lame since it costs more and is more effort than CDs... but What I find lamer would be selling ALL of the copies of the game in advance, and then when the game "comes out" you go "Oh sorry we're sold out. We were sold out before we even released it! You should have paid way in advance!" Followed by various reprints/new runs. It just encourages collector stupidity and moronic prices for no reason. Plan ahead! If you've sold out of a game before you've even physically manufactured it, maybe you should manufacture more than that so that when you get your stuff, you can enjoy continued sales past whoever wanted to pony up way ahead of time. You also won't see your game selling for disastrous prices on eBay/forums/at conventions. I'm not down with shafting skeptical people. I am a skeptic. I don't shaft myself. When I pressed Insanity, I did like 500 copies. I have like, 250-300 of them sitting around in my basement acting as shelves. but its ok, it was only 40$ more to get 500 copies versus 300 copies. I don't feel bad about that. They might sell one day.
  19. blog/website/whatever you want to call it. I basically read the links you linked, thought "this is a mess of copy pasted jive" and then left. My mistake. It is a site. Also, you said you think games should be played for fun, but then say certain game designers should commit suicide for creating their idea of fun that is also shared by others. are you done dancing around dealing with all of the counterpoints yet?
  20. I read it perfectly fine. Convert or Commit Suicide. You just quoted it too. That's what it says. You want all the "freaks" to do what you like, or die. Classy. It was moronic to post the hyperbole in the first place. It could be argued that the sports leagues people play in own their asses too. Also, who cares that we've moved to gameshows. They are gameshows. There are rules, you compete, there are random elements involved sometimes, there is a prize for winning. It's basically a real life video game. In fact, they have made video games out of game shows. Surely you've seen American Gladiators for NES, or Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and all of that. If they are irrelevant to the discussion, why are they video games as well? It sounds like you just want to disregard all examples, no matter how contrived they are, that disprove your viewpoint. You seem like a self-important dope. "Hey everyone, look at this blog full of overly opinionated opinions on game design! some of these game designers should do what I like, or they should slash their wrists and bleed to death". Give me some prime examples of these freaks that should off themselves. Who are we talking about? What games? I gave you Shadowgate, one of the kings of no randomness. Its die and remember. Never changes. It's totally unforgiving. You break the wrong mirror, you die. You open the coffin, slime devours you. You have no way of knowing until you do it and get wasted. If that isn't what you are talking about, then what are you talking about? Try to do it without linking to the blog. The blog isn't very good anyways.
  21. First off, calling them freaks and hoping they commit suicide is really pathetic. Grow up. Secondly, look at a game like Chips Challenge. That's a great game despite always being the same. Same goes for a game like Adventures of Lolo, or Boxyboy (Sokoban). You're definition of work is pretty messed up. All 3 games I just mentioned are very fun. Same with the game Tricky Kick. Never changes, still fun and worth playing at least once. Shadowgate is a great die and remember game. Dismissing people who design games such as this as mental cases who need to die is really moronic. It's not really anyones problem. It's a reasonable assumption based off of a situation presented by you. Being the puke generator is just as valid as not being the puke generator. If that was your point, you missed it. Here's a nice example: You're sent up a mountain course full of people-created hazards. The fastest ascender wins 1,000,000$. Jimbob McGee starts his run. One of the hazards is people throwing giant rocks at you. Since Jimbob is the first to go, the throwers suck at aiming. He gets to the top no problem. Amazing time. Now, you go. You're the last to go, and you go 10 hours later. It's now raining, windy, and almost freezing temperatures out. Also, the throwers got way better over the course of those 10 hours. You start running up and get belted in the face with rocks and get sent flying down the mountain. Your time blows and you don't win the money. I guarantee you, you'd be complaining and whining about how unfair it is because Jimbob had such an easy run! Clearly, the fact that the weather RANDOMLY changed to rainy/windy/cold as hell and the random fact that the rock throwers became experts actually matters, and it changes the experience drastically. Wake up. This happened on a TV show here recently. Contestants for this obstacle course who had to compete in the later hours got treated to cold temperatures and condensation all over the course that resulted in awful slips and falls whereas the people who went in the daytime had nice, crisp, dry weather and got to enjoy traction while running. The times for the morning people versus the evening people are skewed. There is a clear disadvantage to trying to climb vinyl mats that are covered in water when its 30 degrees colder out. If you think that's perfectly fair, go get a dictionary.
  22. What Turbo Grafx boxes? I have Davis Cup Tennis, if you want that.
