Ultima Collecting -- I am in big trouble!
Arkhan replied to Albert's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Well, you could argue it both ways. UO takes place sometime after Ultima 3 but before Ultima 4, as far as I can tell. But then, they bring the abyss all up in. so its like wait maybe its after 6. and then the fellowship music plays sometimes from 7, so I have no clue. AND ITS GOT MUSIC FROM ULTIMA 9 OH GOD IM CONFUSED. anyway, you should play Ultima V. It's awesome. -

Im pretty sure thats because Richard Garriott still owns the rights to the name, as evidenced by him being removed from Ultima Online also. Lord Blackthorn is the new king! -

What kind of crap is that!? -
I'd prefer the Morrowind engine, because Skyrim and Oblivion's combat are awful.

Vintage games on Pawnstars, Auction Hunters, ETC

I laugh when I see that stuff. The dudes are experts in dumb old crap like coins and buttons, but you show them games, they TRY to act like an expert, but you know they're not even going to know how to hook it up. That "Hardcore Pawn" show is the worst. The dad's a wannabe tough guy, the sons a clueless dumbass, and the daughter is an ignorant bitch. Pardon my french. I don't think there's a better way to explain it. -
Yeah, they had Gazers, but... Gwenno is supposed to be awesome. She went to Serpent Isle ALONE, and now she's like "awww where is Iolo!?". and yknow, why doesn't Lord British tell you "Hey, I told Iolo to go check things out. I haven't seen him!" it's pretty awful. The Avatar asks what the codex is. I would've made Lord British walk up and slap the Avatar in the face. Also, the accents and voice acting blow. Where'd all the thees and thous go!
-
Dupre being there is completely moronic. Anyone who's played Serpent Isle can attest to that. It doesn't make sense at all! the whole thing with Iolo + Gwenno was just lame. and what happened to all your stuff from Ultima VIII?! Titan of Ether!? C'mon. What happened. Fans need to just remake the whole game, story included. I'll do the voice of Shamino.

I hated that they turned the Avatar into an idiot and made him ask all kinds of insulting questions. They should not have made the game with the tutorials and assumption that they need to cater to new players to the series. If you START a series with the 9th game, you deserve to be confused! Also, the references to the previous games are all screwed up and insulting. They don't even properly reference the previous game. The game itself (Engine/design) was pretty awesome. It looked great, and played great. However, the enemies were cheesy (crabs, rats, hillbillies). If it had the story fixed up, and you removed the Avatard from it, it would fair better. But there are still so many things they left out, like Nystul and Chuckles.

The top 5 games that defined your childhood

I refer to everyone as dude. Even girls. and even newborns and crap. -
The first time I saw it was on a Pentium 2. So it happened too fast to see. Then I learned how MoSlo worked, and proceeded to laugh my ass off.

What TheLoon said. (Beat me to it)

The only thing I don't like is that 6,7,8 and 9 got rid of first person dungeons. That was lame.

Classic computer emulation on the NEW iPad.
Arkhan replied to dudeslife's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Yeah. I think my only gripe over Apple that doesn't apply so much for the rest is that annoying marketing campaign they went on where they made fun of PC and accidentally bred a generation of cult followers that repeat the commercials verbatim as their argument for why they bought the thing. But, you can't really blame a company for all of the goons who can't think for themselves! -

Yeah, I mean I hate Apple products, but not for some doofy reason like "ITS GONA DOOM THE WORDL!" I just don't like touchy pokey crap in general, there's not alot of games that interest me (except for that Ultima 3 thing), all the software I personally use isn't for the Mac (and the equivalents aren't what I need or are way too expensive), the white hardware gets all gross after awhile, I can't fiddle around in them unless I can find my screwdriver that is barely visible to the naked eye, and they're really expensive and as a result, have no bang for the buck. plus, Macintosh apples are gross. Give me fuji. This doesn't mean I won't USE one. I just won't go buy one. I use my friends mac computer all the time, and sometimes steal my sisters Ipad to play around on when she visits. Let everyone else waste the money. I just want to play around when I feel like it. Plus, the Apple ][ is better, anyway. bwahahaa -

What does that have to do with anything? The era where you have to update the CPU drastically every 30 seconds is gone. So what? No it isn't. Who would weld a car hood shut? How would the certified mechanics work on it? -

Is this because you're older? I was always a bit curious how people felt about that, having witnessed video games coming to existence at an age in which they're coherent. Half the games I like were old news by the time I stopped pissing the bed! They've always existed for me. What did people do before video games!? -

Christ, dude, Atari 2600 doesn't count! It's a known fact that you basically either do BASIC or 6502 for the Atari 2600. Also, who said that sprybug can't do C? I bet he can, even if he says he can't. can't and didn't are two differen't words. -

Might and Magic: World of Xeen The entire ultima series because I played the whole damn thing in one marathon over the course of a summer so I count it as one game. Kid Icarus Super Mario Bros 2 Contra III: The Alien Wars I have one more: Bonk's Adventure. So, I have 6 games. Sue me. -
Ultima Collecting -- I am in big trouble!

It was unplayable on AOL if you went to crowded areas. I remember basically living in Moonglow because Britain and Trinsic were so crowded that AOL would just stroke out and boot me from the game. I've play UO off and on for years. Sometimes they release patches/publishes that make the game completely retarded and boring. They've since fixed alot of that (by passing the creative wheel on to a new driver, Mythic). There are a few free servers that try to mimic how UO used to be (UO: T2A, UOGamers Hybrid) and some that try to stay currentish with a ton of goony customs (Excelsior, Pandora)... they're all OK, but I honestly prefer playing the real deal. Going back to the glory days is fun for roughly 2 hours before you go "Man, I used to have all this crap maxed out. I really don't feel like doing it again". This sucks further when the free servers have to limit you somewhat to prevent macroing / cheating. Some have it where you can't sell arrows, or you can't sell in large stacks, or you can't go in X dungeon because you can do X things there that aren't right. ... or they disable treasure boxes. I mean why even play if there is no treasure box hunting! Some servers turn on accelerated gains. That's neat for a few hours too before you realize everyone on the game is maxed out almost immediately, and the game quickly devolves into PVP. What cracks me up the most is the custom things people put into shards. It's often unbalanced. It almost always has hilarious color usage (neon orange+pink+blue in various combinations), and it basically always kills the game completely and makes it un fun. Sometimes they have teleports that take you ANYWHERE YOU WANT. Why even play!? "Oh I'll just click this and warp to the boss and kill him!" It's a circle jerk. I've often thought about reinstalling and resetting up MY free UO server I used to have. A friend and I ran it during highschool for fun. I had set it to Pre-AOS (the glory days), and ran around goofing off. It was mostly IRL friends playing with us, and it was alot of fun. That's the best way to do the free server thing if you really don't feel like socializing with people. Set it up yourself and rule the world! One thing I've often noticed on free shards is the community is skewed in a strange way. You get alot of kids because it's free. That wasn't how UO worked because it cost money. So, you get immature PVP brats that run around and type like they're on AOL and act like they're on meth.
