  1. A lot of people have been burned by failed hardware propositions so they are (maybe rightfully so) biased towards any small startups like this. But Tommy Tallarico is not someone to be worry about - he's someone who deserves support and deserves recognition for what he wants to do. It's hard enough to do what he's trying to do.

Bottom line, anyone who wants to try something different than the Big 3 deserves some positive reinforcement.

Now... If anyone comes and starts asking you for 300 dollars for a "guaranteed product" on Kickstarter... Then... We need to re-evaluate our thoughts haha. 🤡

x Games that are easy to learn but fun to play

    x Simple to use controllers

x Allowing beginners to compete with advanced players

x All content is appropriate for children (I have an 8yo and a 6yo)

x Game prices less than $10

This could almost be on the back of the Amico box. Haha. This is exactly why I like the system (minus the having children part 🧐)

I'll just paste what I wrote in the other thread here:

"I just got another idea. If Tommy can't get the rights to Sonic, or even if he can, I'd like to see a 2D sprite-based Sonic clone starring the Running Man. He could run through worlds based on the old INTV games. So like you know how Sonic 3's Ice Cap has the snowboarding part? Same thing, but with skiing instead preceded/followed by the same exploratory high-speed platforming as Sonic. Each world would have its own special unique gimmick, like Sonic. Multiplayer would be split-screen racing, time trials, or maybe score attack. Basically Sonic Mania but with the Running Man."

    Any chance of this, Tommy?

Just saw this. Looks like a good idea, but I don't see any reason why Amico wouldn't be able to get something like Sonic or Sonic Mania down the line.

A game flat out featuring Running Man and focusing on him would be cool though.

  4. For a fighting game - something simpler like Clayfighter (with Earthworm Jim of course) or a 3D Arena Spy vs Spy like discussed before is probably better.

I can't see a fighting game like Smash with Running Man and Frogger. All the other characters are pretty expensive licenses or obscure licenses. It also sounds like a nightmare to balance and patch and plan. Otherwise it'll just end up really simple, with each character having the same moves with a different coat of paint. Seems a bit niche for this kind of machine too.

    Tommy,

This is probably too soon but do you know if the Amico has the option to format an SD card as internal storage?  Since the Amico only has 16GB of flash memory, it would be nice if we could expand the flash memory instead of using the SD card as separate storage.

From what I've gathered, you'll be able to store like 25 large games or 40 smaller games on the 16 gigabyte hard drive. I can't foresee you needing to store more than that many at once without having time to delete some.

But I do see why options are nice, though.

The YM2612 is amazing when used properly. I was very surprised to learn that you used the old crappy GEMS sound engine thing for the regular Genesis version because it sounds amazing unlike the huge majority of GEMS games. You know that the Genesis version music actually supposedly doesn't play the music in EWJ1 properly on the first model, but that it does on the second? Something to do with the busy behaviour on the YM2612 being incorrectly set from the factory that was fixed when Sega swapped to the YM3438 on the second model. Also broke the music in Hellfire completely when they did that.

On the model 1, it's random. The preamp on these boards has its gain set way too high, resulting in this distorted sound.

Since this is their big comeback, they should call it Asteroid: Resurrection. ;)

You're right, of course - there's no way they're producing even thousands of units, let alone tens of thousands, and they're nowhere near production.

Or, to put it in perspective with one of the articles posted previously: Apple has finished designs ready to produce but have to wait because of the delays in China.

They've already made millions of those new AirPods, too - this is just the latest batch.

They've got a month's wait on them on Apple's website, with estimates that, due to component shortages (which won't just be affecting Apple), production could resume at only about 50%, meaning that month could easily become two for some customers (and perhaps longer).

And that's Apple, one of the world's biggest and wealthiest companies. They may not have anything new out until the end of March.

    Atari, therefore, is screwed.

@Paul Slocum's estimate of June at best is probably accurate right now. But I wouldn't be surprised if it gets delayed even past that.

Yeah - just being honest, the pictures that Atari showed were very suspicious. Because anyone who has been in that industry will know straight away that those facilities weren't set up to manufacture everyone on Indiegogo's orders like they seem to be trying to pass off. Those look like a temporary setup for a custom (and small) order. It's pretty deceptive all around.

  8. The main reason I ask... I worked in manufacturing circuit boards for boat engines for a while (and marine electrical systems.) I saw similar PCB assembly tables. And the time I spent in Ningbo, China was limited, but from the production tables I saw in Atari's update they are equipped to, perhaps, produce 50-100 units a month, with 10 or so units a day. And they list this as "pre-production" so these aren't even production units they were showing.

And they have at least 11,000 orders to fulfill.

The facilities (sorry 3 tables) they pictured are in no way designed or equipped to manufacture 10,000 production units of anything. Not before 2022 anyway. And currently I'm hearing that a lot of facilities are not going to be fully open for at least another 2 weeks according to what the government is having them do due to the flu.

  9. What are the odds from people in the know (you guys) that this thing actually launches soon? The production photos seem like a very small limited run, like hundreds of units, and not set up for large numbers of orders (like, in the thousands or tens of thousands).

Yeah, the Polymega is actually really cool, and I was rather impressed with it. I became significantly less impressed when he told me it's running a custom 64 bit version of Kega Fusion for Genesis/MD, though. They basically grabbed a bunch of emulators that they were able to get the licenses to, reworked them, and put them in a box that can dump the carts and play them through software emulation. It's basically a slightly less bootleg Retron 5 but with a more premium feel... and a price tag to match.

Overall, like I said, if you have the cash to spare and don't mind using an emulator box to "play" your physical carts or discs, Polymega is probably a good choice. If you aren't into the emulator box aspect or the price, not worth it. It does work extremely well, though, from what I saw. No problems with Saturn that I saw.

Edit: I see you down there browsing, kevtris. Don't worry, your stuff is way better.

Yeah, I can't do Polymega if it's emulation.

If you want more interesting tidbits about the history of Intellivison (and more related humor) I stumbled across this article a couple nights ago:

    http://thedoteaters.com/?bitstory=console/intellivision

    It was a great read.

    This is a fantastic read.

It shows off Mattel's Autorace a little, which is also fascinating. Handheld games are really interesting.

Here's what sort of started it all - although it's not a fully "electronic" game like Autorace, it's still one of the first "handheld" or portable games that uses electronics/batteries.

I doubt there's any left in good condition out there.

In 1987 I got an Intellivision II.  Thankfully INTV Corp was still releasing games which were better than some of the original Intellivision games.  They were finally releasing sports games with a AI so you could play against a computer opponent.  There were some really good arcade games too.  Commando, Hover Force, and Thunder Castle come to mind.  If it wasn't for that time in my life, I wouldn't be here keeping tabs on the Amico.  I think Intellivision was the main reason why I never jumped on the Nintendo bandwagon, and I'm OK with that.

I got an Intellivision II in the mid 90s.

The buttons are not so great on that one. I was hoping it was just due to the age of the controllers but I tried a relatively unused one recently and the buttons felt the same. Hopefully Tommy uses it as an example of how not to make controllers.

The Intellivison III looked cool, too bad it never came to pass.
