Why would he want the community of Reddit to know he is talking to me?  A very "attention whore" thing to do.

    And I should know!

    :D

I hope he tries to keep it civil.  I don't mind giving folks facts/data or my opinion if they are respectful (which so far he has yet to show me).  The points he made against the system are based on not comprehending what I said in interviews.  So hopefully he'll be in the mood to listen to reason as opposed to his yet to be informed conclusions.

To be fair to him, some people have issues processing contextual clues in interviews. Perhaps written in plain language he can comprehend it better. But you were 100% correct in not granting him any of your time outside this forum.

Also, even for Vara it took you six or seven attempts to get her to understand why mature rated games are not for this platform and why it isn't censorship. I believe she still came away with the idea you are censoring developers. Some people just have trouble with stuff they believe they are right about no matter what and won't listen to spoken word.

Edit: I feel bad for saying "to be fair to him..." but I mean to be fair to people LIKE him... I guess.

    Hi Tony,

I actually have 2 different friends from Wuhan and one of them is outside the city and his family in trapped there.  I've played Wuhan 4 times over the past 18 years of touring.  It's a horrible situation and my friends there are telling me that it is a LOT worse than the Chinese government is telling people.  They are telling me that hundreds of people are dying every day and the hospitals are over crowded and he told me the spookiest thing was that you can see people walking the streets looking like the Zombie Apocalypse.

But he also told me they are trying out a new vaccine on animals right now in hopes for a cure.

Our manufacturing is done in the northeastern part of China on the coastline.  Wuhan is right in the middle of China... so it's far away... although it could quickly spread and get out of hand if not contained quickly (which is why they've shut down Wuhan and no one can leave or go in, etc.

We're not sure if this will affect our production.  We probably won't know until March.  Will need to see how it effects everything.  Tons of places have been going out of business... especially food places.  It could end of having an impact on all electronics this year.  The thing that a lot of people may not know (I didn't until this whole process) is that a lot of electronics are not made anywhere except China!  So even if the machine was $1000 and I wanted to make it in Texas (for example)... I couldn't!  Most of the parts are only made in China... so you don't really have a choice.

    Crazy.

Really a scary thing. That's crazy to hear but I already suspected you could not fully trust the government to tell the truth about the numbers or the catastrophic meltdown that could be happening.

It's also showing the danger of over reliance on China. One natural disaster or catastrophe like this can shut down the world if it hits China in the worst ways like this.

    Hey Tommy,

wishing you the best for your concert tomorrow in Doha, Qatar.

I have been following the news regarding the Coronavirus - there has already been such a sad loss of life and I think it is inevitable that this will only escalate. I totally understand there are more important things in life than video games, and think we should all stop and pause for thought for those who are ill and especially those who have lost loved ones.

In light of this I feel ashamed to ask, but I observe the impact the pandemic is having on China's economy and industry and was wondering if Intellivision has resilience or business continuity plans for this type of pandemic or other natural disaster on the Amico build schedule?

    Apologies if this sounds callous,

    regards

    Tony

It's already affecting Nintendo Switch production.

@decle here on these very forums has written an emulator (that runs ON YOUR INTELLIVISION) for the RCA Studio II. I'm too lazy to find the awesome thread that covers it - but it's pretty amazing. There's a closer relationship between the Studio II and the original Intellivision than many may suspect.

EDIT: OK, only too lazy to look up the link before posting. Here is the thread about the emulator.

Okay, wow. I was not expecting this.

Questions about the many tests you have probably done on batteries.

    1) To maintain the best possible lifespan, is it preferable that the battery is completely discharged before charging it ?

    2) How long does it take to get a full charge ?

    3) Does the controller charge faster while Amico is turned on, or is it the same as if Amico remains in standby mode ?

For my part, it is certain that I will buy all the different colors of controllers ! No one will use their cellphone to play at my house ! 😉

    Thank you.

Lithium-ion batteries last many years if they are properly stored. Usually, a Lithium-ion battery does fine near full charge or down to 50% charge if stored long term.

NEVER discharge a lithium ion battery completely. It is incredibly bad for the battery and can kill it completely. In laymen's terms, Li-ion depends on charge moving back and forth in the battery. With no charge, the ions can freeze and never be restarted moving again.

The Amico controllers will last you 4, 5, or 6 years if they are standard li-ions. Everything on the Amico is probably going to be standard parts. I have PlayStation 3 controllers that are still fine because I have used them frequently.

If they are standard li-ions in the 2200-4400mah range we're talking 5-6 hours with screen brightness on full and I'm sure the controllers will charge at the same rate if the console is turned on or in standby.

And finally I am assuming (if standard battery in the 2000-4000mah range) it'll take a few hours to fully charge them on the system or plugged in.

Have to admit, was disappointed with the decision to move the side buttons away from the familiar vertical grouping, but sounds like there was plenty of research and testing done that showed people strongly preferred holding the controller horizontally.

That said, I hope some of the classic games allow you to choose which way you want to hold it. Ie: turn it one way and the keypad screen flips, disc re-orients, etc.

In the 80s there were no "shoulder buttons" yet. Now that we have a more modern control scheme, shoulder buttons are almost a necessity, keeping the buttons so close together just to hearken back to the original didn't make a lot of sense.

With the actual recessed shoulder buttons the Amico has a lot more of a foundation for standard control schemes in games.

Edit: also forgot, some ports like Castle Crashers and other Amico appropriate games will benefit a lot from a more standard scheme (no triggers but shoulder buttons will be great).

Just kidding, that was really informative. 🤓

By the way I have more news for you all, courtesy of Robert Shmigelsky: 1) Board games are better in Facebook, 2) The Amico is not powerful enough for 3D motion controlled sports and 3) Intellivision Entertainment's only chance is to be bought by Google. Source: his *ss.

(Thanks, 1001lives, for pointing that out!)

Where the heck do these people come up with this stuff? And why do they all always say the exact same things. Down to the letter sometimes. People love the idea of something failing. Why is that all they talk about? Failure? Is that all their lives are about? I just can't imagine doing that. Going around to random products and typing up paragraphs about how it will fail spectacularly. Is this like a failure fetish I don't know about?

The perfect solution is for Google to buy them and make Stadia 2.0? Just what the heck is he going on about... What?

Do these people just like to type a lot?

I just found a couple of interesting comments in the Vara Dark interview. The first one is plain hilarious:

    image.thumb.png.70b576eb9d32b151d378c90894c32e2f.png

The second one seems a bit more serious but it appears to be lacking key information about how the financial success of the project:

    image.thumb.png.b350f63434c1032e15525bec85daa0f3.png

Tommy (and everyone), what do you have to say? Answering the first one can probably be fun since his suggestion is so crazy, and clarifying the second with real data would also be great.

Luposian is doing the typical doomsaying but he's dressing it up with a more "concerned" or attempted logical reasoning.

He's just saying "This won't last and can't be funded because money." They all say the same things, and always say the same things, but phrase it like they are the first person to come up with this or that they have come up with the perfect "gotcha" comment.

All jokes aside, his comment boils down to this:

"BUT how will you support it without having infinite money forever...? In 3-5 years you'll be broke and say thanks everyone, bye!"

Tommy should address him but it's kind of pointless to say anything to that. If it sells well and the games sell well, it supports itself. If they don't, then that's that.

He says "this doesn't make business sense", but what he posted IS business. You make a product, hope it sells, and continue to support it while it does... Could be 6 months, could be 1 year, could be 5 years. Ultimately I just see his comment as pointless.

  9. Definitely liking some of the creepy vibes. I like the mad AI/killer robots and creepy spider (slenderman vibes a bit). Maybe in the final version that creepiness and craziness can be dialed up a bit. Love that they went with flat out Robbie because that's what the original grey ones looked a lot like.

Really great video showcasing what the Amico is all about. Well done.

I don’t understand the question. Why wouldn’t Tommy have them sign an NDA? Why would he allow someone to blab all their proprietary information and trade secrets so others can steal them?

If that would be the case it means that Tommy actually reached out to them and they told him that they were not going to sign an NDA, which Tommy never stated himself.

It would make more sense to hear it from Tommy saying that Pat and Ian denied talking to him due to that fact I guess.

I agree though - of course they would need to sign one. But they never came out and said that the NDA was the reason either did they? They just made it seem like they had no interest to talk at all.

I don't want to stir up the controversy yet again (so feel free to skip this post if you're tired of hearing about it), but I suspect that CPUWIZ posted his message in both places because some of the people who've been blocked from this thread continue to follow itfor example, there's nothing preventing them from logging out and viewing it in guest mode—and that this was simply a way of ensuring that they all saw it.  I don't think the message was meant for most of you here.

I don't know how many times we've all gone out of our way to say that rational concerns and criticisms are welcomed and encouraged, so it is regrettable that it became necessary to block anyone at all.  The concerns that they initially raised were also raised about other console projects in the past—and by some of the same people—and they ultimately proved to be right in the case of the RetroVGS/Chameleon in particular.  The problem is not that these concerns were raised at all, but that even after they were satisfactorily addressed (in many instances by Tommy himself), those people would not let them go, and they ultimately escalated into baseless accusations and borderline paranoia.  That kind of behavior, no matter by whom practiced, cannot be allowed to run rampant.

However, I for one am determined not to allow all that drama to detract from the discussion here.  We'll all do our best to keep it positive and constructive.

Thank you for the clarification, you are not stirring things up.

Discussion on both sides is good and to be totally honest, Jberel and other folks were very critical but very fair and non-judgmental, just  too overbearing about their thoughts. Not everyone wants to spend all their time thinking negatively of something, I myself am just here hoping this works out fine and want it to succeed.

Regarding the Chameleon, it is better to hope for something good than be so skeptical due to the past you automatically say no one deserves anything... and then continue fighting to try to convince others of that same viewpoint. Amico for what it's worth has nothing in common with Chameleon or Gameband or any of that nonsense. And these people know that, surely.

Tommy needs to see both sides of the coin because it will better equip him for when his device actually launches. By trying to shout him down or mock his concepts (or the design of the console) you are not really doing anything at all. It's better to simply challenge him and ask him questions than insult him, make accusations, or worse, become paranoid.

Tommy if you are reading this you can also squash this rumor now - there is word circulating Pat and Ian won't talk to you because you tried to make them sign an NDA.

I thought we were getting videos possibly Wednesday but if not, Thursday, Friday and the weekend.  I've not gotten an Intellivision email or seen anything on here.  Are they delayed or am I stuck in one of those horrible dreams I sometimes have, where everyone seems to know what's going on except me?

I thought the same thing too. But Tommy has pushed it back to Monday video/Tuesday pre-order.

  13. As someone who just learned about the Amico last month and has been following it pretty closely, this thread has been really civil. Even the people who were arguing about the FE or were critical about the FE were pretty tame and civil in their discussion. I feel like all sides were able to get their opinions out.

All of that subsided and the thread has been quiet (what I would call a normal discussion thread) since. I don't know why someone came in threatening to lock the thread. Nothing's even been happening. It must be some other thread that's complaining because people can't tolerate when they don't have power or perceive someone else has power.

Edit: Just saw the Taco VCS stuff. What we're seeing is just people who are bored with nothing to discuss venting their random thoughts. But don't allow it to bleed into this thread.

They have their containment thread and anyone can be critical, it's easy. They're allowed to be critical. But I think it was totally inappropriate of CPUWIZ to bring it in at all. If he hadn't, I wouldn't even know or care about that. Don't let their stuff taint this thread.

Also: Since that thread is monitoring this thread,  I am not part of a "cult."

You can go back through my post history now and see where I first came in and analyzed the absolute hate on this console all over the internet. Everyone repeats and says the same things. So when you come into this thread and raise the SAME criticisms, what do you think you're effectively doing? If this entire thread fills up with counter-arguments and criticisms, there is no discussion. Furthermore, it has to be honest criticism. Not just saying this thread is a cult.

You're just saying "I'm being critical because being critical means I'm an informed and smart consumer! No one's gonna' pull one over on me!" That's fine - but just know that it doesn't' really matter at this juncture. Your thoughts are duly noted and have been noted this entire time. Repeating them every time Tommy posts isn't doing anything at all.

Just wanted to give a heads up to the folks in here that we're thinking the Founder's Edition will be going on sale on Monday.  Which is why you haven't seen anything on social media, etc.

We're still gathering the content as everyday something new & cool gets put into one of the games that we want to show off.  Hahaha!

A lot of times in this thread I'm thinking/typing out loud.  The hope was for this Friday... but looking like next Monday or potentially Tuesday instead.  Definitely NOT past Tuesday as I have a trip to the Middle East on Wednesday.  Really pushing for Monday if possible.  Lots to do and set-up... making great progress, but don't want to officially announce to the public a date... and then have it slide.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

Video's coming today, tomorrow and over the weekend!  I think you'll be pleased.

    :)

Thanks for the update. I don't think many of us are taking the posts as absolute promises, at least until it gets close to October haha
