I suspect many people in this forum will find the following article interesting: Coronavirus is not killing 3.4% of patients. How the rate got inflated and why it will get lower.

    I'm using this link

    https://www.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6

Which shows that of the confirmed cases, 121,000 or so, there have been 4,373 deaths.

Guys, the 3.5 % mortality rates are calculated using detected cases, not total number of cases... Most cases don't produce symptoms and are cured without ever being detected.

That's the same with every thing in life. We don't know the total number cases of influenza either but we still gather it's 0.1%.

The mortality rate of car crashes are calculated using detected crashes, not total number of crashes. What if someone crashed their car in the mountain and was never found...?

I'm not sure we can use the argument that "most cases go undetected so don't worry."

    Yo!,

I made the mistake of venturing over to the Amico thread on Reddit late last night and something caught my eye that was a bit disappointing.

    Here is the comment...

tommy has changed a lot of his answers in the atariage thread. i am on his side but its hard to defend him when he is now saying he may not even have 10 units for E3. if he cant even get 10 units by e3 how is he going to get thousands and thousands by september for an october launch? i dont think hes as trustworthy about this as he lets on anymore.

    A few things...

    1.  I wish if this person had a question or issue he would just take it up with me publicly in here.  I would have no problem addressing his question or concern.  But to basically call me a liar... is going too far.  Especially when the question was never posed to me in here.

    2.  Yes... I change answers in here because everyone is seeing, hearing, reading all of this stuff in real time as its happening.  Most people understand and appreciate this.  I'm just surprised the concept of things changing isn't clearly understood by some people.  But to basically call me a liar because of it?  Really?!?  I'm ALWAYS open and honest ALL the time.  I guess... to a fault.  Every sentence and word I say shouldn't be held to some kind of perfect standard that is never going to change.  All of this is happening in real time and plans constantly change.  Companies NEVER do this... for exactly this reason.  Yet I continue to do it anyway... knowing that stuff will be used against me in the future.  Sad.  Yes... at one point I was hoping to have 50 or so machines on the floor of E3. Then Corona hit.  But if we get 10 - 20 in a featured position with BIG TIME TV coverage... I'm happy with that.  As if I could predict the Coronavirus?  But whether it's 10 or 50 (or NONE if it gets canceled) the machines at E3 wouldn't be the ones that come off the assembly line anyway.  They would be DEV KIT versions.  So the phrase "he can't even get 10 units by E3 how is he going to get thousands by Sept/Oct" is 2 COMPLETELY different things.

Anyway... I just wanted to point out how disappointing it is to read stuff like this when I've always been so honest and upfront about every little thing.  For folks to now somehow use it against me is going a little too far IMO.

Last comment about Reddit.  I have never read so many ridiculous, uneducated and just plain STUPID remarks than from the user: paprium_fiasco.  This guy really takes the cake!  Literally EVERY comment I've ever read from this guy is almost completely the opposite.  And you guys thought that Tony guy was off?  Nah... this papsmear dude really takes the cake!  Another self proclaimed "genius" who pretends to know everything... yet knows nothing and doesn't have the balls to come here and confront me in a manner fitting of an adult.

People need to understand that we're not going to pull the trigger on a $10 Million marketing/advertising budget if we will only be able to produce 100,000 machines.  Why?  Because we could sell that many on our own with very little marketing.  This is business 101.

That guy has been on the Amico subreddit for a while. He did defend you from Tony, I think he just gets easily frustrated and panics quickly.

His thread prompted me to make this thread:

The Paprium guy is a lost cause. It's hard to know who he is or what his agenda is.

This reminds me of Splatoon on the Wii U and the Switch.

Fun fact, the original abandoned concept for Splatoon was a world of Robots who used squirt guns and water to damage each other in fights. They all wore different rain coats and water proof gear to protect themselves.

Could be a very cool concept for Amico.

Seeing this topic has veered temporarily into Atari Box territory, I will point out that this touches on a an excellent point of the large differences between Atari and Intellivision.

By my understanding, Intellivision has multiple investors and partners helping shoulder the expenses until production starts and the units hit the market. If manufacturing costs along the way go up, the final price of the console can still be adjusted to compensate. So while it is hard perhaps to nail down exact pricing for an Amico currently, I have no doubts it will be produced and available.

For Atari, the only money they have to work with is the Indiegogo backer money; 3 million. Every expenditure Atari has comes out of that, there is no additional funds available or going in. So every production delay means more of the backers money being spent on things other then the direct production of the units. Likewise increased costs such as material and labour also have to come out of this 3 million; again reducing the amount available to actually produce units.

After three delays, and number four to be announced at any time (No chance of Atari meeting their March 31st delivery date); if I were a backer I would be having serious concerns about how much money Atari has left at this point to actually produce the units to fulfill their Indiegogo obligations to their backers. Every delay or increase moves Atari that much closer to 'This is a difficult letter to write... Indiegogo means you were buying into a vision, not into a product...' territory where Atari just walks away.

So in my opinion, Intellivision is the much more secure company financially and the one more likely to actually produce an actual product.

Anyways, long-winded rant aside, any rough idea about when the reveal of the new Amico games will happen? I loved the Astrosmash and Night Stalker trailers (I still want to call them Astroblast and Dark Caverns; my 2600-ness showing though), and eagerly await to see what is coming up next!

Crowdfunding a brand new console platform isn't ever going to work out. In the end if you want to launch a new platform it has to be invested in and grown by people who are experienced in the industry. If they aren't experienced in the video game industry, they at least have to be very experienced in some kind of technology platform.

Even with 8 million dollars, Ouya was a miserable thing and it was because of the people developing it and working on it. All the money in the world wouldn't have done anything for that group with that idea.

The use of the word “running” is giving the folks over at what is now referred to as Atari to much credit, the status of this project is laughable. Did you see the demo at the NYC esports gaming event? It was painful the videos I watched 😬

Right now there's no conceivable way they will deliver 15,000 units of anything anytime soon.

They posted pictures of their "production line" in some chinese backroom and they had maybe 4 or 5 assembly tables.

From my time working with a company that did a lot of production in Ningbo for the circuit boards on boat engines and aquatic vehicles, let me tell you... Those 4 or 5 tables aren't making more than 50-100 units of anything.

Now, this is getting ugly, isn't it? Who's telling the truth now???

Well, I asked that guy to produce some logs so we could be more transparent about what went wrong, without revealing personal information about himself, and he never replied.

He should easily be able to post the date of the PayPal escalation claim, the 4 or 5 emails he sent to the correct address, and snippets/copies of the conversation where Tommy told him to delete his comments. But he hasn't done that yet.

Nothing is happening with Polymega, which is the problem with it. At least one prototype exists, and a small amount of people, including myself, have actually played it so we know at least something actually exists, but beyond that, there is literally nothing. Apparently it was supposed to ship last month but it didn't and the company doesn't actually say anything ever except to announce announcements. It's actually kind of fun to watch from afar on occasion just because the whole thing is a terrible wreck. Cruel, perhaps, but true. I don't wish for them to fail, but, like with NEC's terrible handling of the TurboGrafx-16, they may have destroyed themselves.

A few people have mentioned that, depending on some various stuff, doing another VIP console could make it look like Intellivision Entertainment is short on cash and needs money for whatever reason depending on how it's done/timing. I forgot to consider this when I replied to this previously and I agree with it, so basically append this to what I said earlier. I don't personally care either way, but I'd just be careful with brand image and stuff.

Haters will interpret it as "lol intellivision got no ca$h need ur moneyz to make thing" or some other grammatically incorrect variation on that no matter what, I think, but people who were not able to get the Founders Edition will probably be very happy and the rest of the world will continue to be ignorant because they do not know the thing exists at all yet.

Let's talk about some positive stuff. Apparently E3 is still going to proceed as planned. Someone can insert a Palpatine .gif if they desire.

It's highly unfortunate that yet another Retro games console is falling into the "silence" void.

It gives upcoming brands like Intellivision a hard time since Tommy is having to rise up from the ashes of all the scorched reputations of these companies. I hate that Amico is getting lumped in with stuff like Chameleon, Ouya, and probably now Polymega, etc. because these were all such strange ideas to begin with and are nothing like Amico. It also definitely affects people's perceptions when Tommy asks if people are interested in pre-orders.

Also it's just really sad to hear that the Polymega efforts are not really going anywhere, as well. I always want more hardware to succeed especially when it comes to the retro gaming arena.

Gee, guys. I didn't think my comment would ruffle any feathers. In no way did I mean to tell Tommy how to run his business.

I'm actually saying that he's the person to figure out how to do the VIP edition. He has been right so many times, against broad consensus, so why should he be wrong this time?

He asked for feedback, he got it, but the image is a little blurry. I gave my opinion, too. Middle of the road. Middle of the road perks, middle of the road price, middle of the road down payment. You keep og supporters happy and new customers happy. But I don't pretend that my feedback is above anyone else's. Of course I think what I am advocating for is a good thing, but I understand that it is not necessarily the best thing to do, because I am not seeing the big picture. Tommy is -and I think he's already made up his mind-

I feel, and this is strictly personal, that it would be a shame for Tommy to pass up an opportunity like this. It's not every day you see thousands of people pushing to become paying customers. It would not make much sense that in order to satisfy less than 1% of your current customers, you would miss out on selling to 100% of your new customers.

But again, my opinion could be summed up as: leave it to Tommy, he'll know what to do.

You're fine. I was only mildly offended. I broke my pitchfork in anger.

Thanks for the refund.  I have no desire to monopolize or detail this thread so this will be the last I comment on it.  I will now not be deleting my comments as you had privately requested me to do after seeing your responses here.  If the mods decide to do so then that is their wish.  I submitted about 4 different requests for a refund , and I highly doubt I entered the info wrong all five times.  Also - the PayPal case i opened several days ago (with the proper email attached to the transaction ID) went completely ignored until I had to publicly post this issue; and apparently I was not in any exclusive company.  I wish you guys well and will buy an Amico after launch and I wish you all great success with this thing, but I’m not going to be thrown under the bus either and would appreciate if you also owned up to your own mistakes.   I would suggest perhaps making the refund request procedure more clear to others to prevent further misunderstandings.  Cheers!

For declarative purposes, can you post a copy of the case ID from your PayPal? Or any info without revealing yourself? Maybe the date or confirmation email date of the case being opened?

That way no one can dispute any of your claims one way or the other and we can keep it all out in the open. In my frustrations with refunds in the past I have made similar claims like "I opened up a case last week" or "I sent 10 emails" when in reality I maybe opened a case a day or two ago and sent maybe 2 or 3 emails. Just want to keep things transparent.

Just a little bit of history from an “old timer”:

“Ahhgh I didn’t get me RFID card in my merch order” - yeah fulfillment house screwed up, replacements mailed in a few days.

“Ahhgh I didn’t get a confirmation of my preorder” - they all went out the next day after the dust settled.

“Ahhgh I cant get a a refund for my Founders order” - refund issued within 24 hours.

I am sure Intellivision isn’t perfect but worst case you can always get ahold of Tommy here if the company system fails you. Hard to say that about almost *any* other company. Complaining that customer service is “non existent” or giving us hourly updates that your return hasn’t been processed *yet* is pretty ridiculous. You know there is PM on this board if you need to reach a Tommy about an issue not being resolved. If he refuses to resolve it and you still feel you are in the right - then post.

Just an update guys - it's been 2 hours since both parties were fully refunded. I'll be back in an hour to let everyone know they've been fully refunded for 3 hours. And so on.

My folks just let me know that you have been refunded as well.  Less than 24 hours from when you sent your request.

Pretty great customer service if ya ask me.   :)

I feel like this needs to be pinned somewhere, so that the next time someone complains about customer service or says customer service is "non-existent," they can see people get the literal CEO of the company responding to them directly and insuring their refund is done.

So here is that response. After watching it, I noticed that it basically says the same things my original video did but more addressing you @Tommy Tallarico directly. I do elaborate further though. The video is not live, I have left it unlisted for now. Anyone is welcome to watch it, leave feedback too. Its a longer one but once I get going I think I address the points in your comment.

For anyone that wants to know but does not want to watch it, I made the video mainly because there has not been much Amico talk as of late and I like to keep the name fresh on the minds of people. I refuse to make videos just for the sake of making a video though. If there is nothing to actually talk about then I let it rest until there is something of note too. I was one of the folks not for another preorder for selfish reasons but at the end of the day it's neither here nor there. I will still have my Founders Edition (God willing) in October and regardless of how many preorders there are I will enjoy it. It is not something that will keep me up at night. The idea came and went.

    Thanks as always Tommy.

Much better, rational, fair, positive, and your personality comes through. Turn it over the live audiences. Make sure you link to Tommy's question on the Atariage thread (this thread lol) in the description or whatever though.

Not really upset but disappointed. If I got a more professional explanation I would have been satisfied.  The response was too emotional.  I was actually fine with the response to Ataricreep and was going let it go.

I understand. Tommy is always emotional because he wants his own product to do well and he doesn't like people dragging it for negative reasons.

A ton of people (myself included) accused him of potentially crowdfunding with his original FE offer, but it sold out so quickly it would make sense to open up more pre-orders. Even if he is using the money for funding, if people want to pre-order they can, he's not saying "This won't get made unless you pre-order" like typical crowdfunding endeavors.

That's what you call a "MASShole" attitude!  Hahaha!  If you grew up on the east coast (especially NY, NJ, CT or MA) in the 70's/80's then you know what I'm talking about.  :)

That's just his way of saying... Hi!

    :D

Seriously though... I'd hate to see like minded folks go at each other in here.  I like everyone involved.  It's just a
    vernacular thing I think.  :)

    Oh he's a MASShole alright... 🧐

I definitely recognize the attitude in his post though, you're right! Few of my friends from New Hampshire and the Boston area remind me of him. But in most cases that's going to hinder good discussion here. Just because of the, uh, particulars of how some forum goers are here. I won't name any names but there's already been some bacon sizzling after Atari Creep posted in that way.

Yes.  I am having massive doubts. The Coronavirus and the situation in China has to be affecting the schedule and development of the project.   The new vip option could be viewed as crowd funding to keep the project rolling.

I initially bought the founders edition because the activity on Atariage gave the project some sense of credibility. But the posts over the last couple of days have eroded the credibility including the flippant response above.

The virus may limit production but surely not prevent it from happening entirely.

What flippant response are you referring to?

If dude wanted to hat me, my video or my opinion I prob would never have been here. I was not defending my self at all, I was correcting gross miss representation, with a bit o an attitude I will admit. That said, if one is going to come on with the tone that dude did and no be factual in 1 thing they speak about, that person better expect a reaction and have the thick skin to take it. Oh and guess what, HE DID. We are about to hug and kiss right now so please (will saying please help this be more comforting) put your cape away and stop playing Superman.  Can you and I hug and kiss now and get back to the topic at hand because I am excited to get my Founders Edition and jam with you kool kats.

You're fine man. No "hugging and kissing" needed lmao.

I was just saying that tone is what's important here and that particular tones are just going to go around in circles and accomplish nothing. We all have our own opinions on tons of the Amico videos on Youtube and we post them here, including Tommy himself. Sometimes some of our opinions are harsh, sometimes they're wrong, sometimes they're right, etc.
