Not that I'm aware of... one of the parts of the mod is to feed the input voltage off the PSU before it gets to the regulators to an unsued redundant ground pin that you have to separate from the traces on the board and that becomes the input voltage for the VCS adapter.

Your right! You'd think I'd remember after doing a few mods myself!

Assuming the seller was using a 2port 5200 when they tested it? Because if they used a 4port model and it hasn't been internally modified for the VCS adapter, then you get nothing from the adapter when trying to use it.

Forgot about that. And if memory serves, doesn't it short out the power supply on the 5200 if someone tries it in an unmodified system?

  3. I tried a couple converters before and didn't like the picture. But I found this Samsung dvd recorder that puts out a beautiful picture on the HDMI output.

I run my 7800, 5200 & 2600 through it! No lag as long as the 3D enhancement is turned off!

You can set the output all the way up to 1080p!

  4. At the time the 5200 was released, GALAXIAN, would have been a great pack-in game! It would have been a good exclusive for the system and a lot of people were familiar with it and not release it for the 8-bits, yet! I don't believe Atari ever planned a 2600 adapter for it because the original version of the 5200 had to be MODIFIED to use it! Also, if Atari would have released hit games BEFORE the 2600 version, the system would have really taken off! Imagine Pac-Man coming out first before the 2600 version!

  5. I know I have Monty Python and Terminator II. Also Ninja Turtles, all three Star Wars, second edition widescreen.

Also 5 KISS laser discs! I got a cd size music video of Dire Straits Money For Nothing.

I'll have to dig them out.

I'm sure it isn't really complicated but can you describe how that is done?  I might have to buy Video Pinball if that's the case.

    Not too hard.

I wired the left joystick switch to the the left flipper and the right joystick switch to the right. The "big" button to the fire for launch and a the up & down to the other free buttons.

Run the ground or common lead to the other side of the buttons.

  7. I got an original Tempest cabinet a few years ago with a bad monitor, so I decided to put in Typhoon 2001 in it! A computer update of the Jaguar Tempest 2000 classic!

I can go into settings and play the orginal Jaguar version!

I first put in a 24" LCD monitor, it just fit! Mounted horizontally and at the same angle as the original. Put in a computer with Windows XP 2015 Edition and installed the game.

Got an interface unit that lets me use the original spinner!!!  Right now only 2 buttons on the panel are used for firing and jump. The super-zapper is connected to the top cone button.

Can't play the bonus round unless I grab the mouse and play it. Thinking about adding a small Trak-Ball on the right to do it but not sure yet.

Took out the old 6x9 speaker on top and installed 2 - 3-way 6x9 tri-axial speakers for stereo and better sound! I access the keyboard and mouse through the coin door.

Plays great but need to do more things: add a third button to the panel between the fire and super-zapper and make it the jump button. Also put in a couple lights behind the marquee, blue on the left and red on the right.

I have M.A.M.E. in it and I can play the original it it! Also I have Stella and I can play a lot of the paddle games using the spinner controller. In Space Invaders and Megamania, I can move the shooter with the spinner!

And they could have easily charged a few bucks extra and people would have paid it because it was Donkey Kong.    Not sure if Atari would have produced a better 2600 version though,   Sounds like Garry Kitchen actually put a significant effort into the existing DK, even though everyone back in the day thought Coleco made it bad on purpose.

I also wonder if they would have included all 4 levels too!

  9. Atari handed Coleco the rights to Donkey Kong and others by Ataris CEO Ray Kassar!

He was grilled by his boss at Warner Communications and he asked Ray: "Why didn't you get the home rights to Donkey Kong?".

Rays reply was: "Nintendo wanted $2.00 for every cartridge we sold!"

His boss said: "At a profit of $17.00 a copy, we still would have made money!"

I wonder today how Atari would have made Donkey Kong for the 2600 had they got the rights!
