Yikes! I haven't been back to AtariAge in a few months (no reason, just procrastinate like heck...). Thank God everything is okay! Get well soon, Nick!

I was going to say, "Any code you lose will only be rewritten better." It sounds odd, but it's SO true!

P.S. Backup anyways.
Well, its an ill wind...I have pieced together some working code.
its lacking some of the featues i'd worked out recenty, but ironically going through it all again has resulted in a MAJOR boost to the speed of the poly engine. So maybe it was for the best after all.

I agree that you should drop the box and manual, just put it up for download so people can at least read the instructions. I know some people are obsessive about having it "complete in box", but if they're too cheap, too bad.
BTW, I'm no baseball fanatic (though it's sorta interesting), so if it'll put the customer count over the top for the required minimum, I'll buy one at $50, okay? (sounds unlikely though)
Good luck!
P.S. I do think you need to confirm permission from the copyright holder, though. No sense in risking it.
Can someone offer me an idea of how we can offer the lynx masses a "bargain cart" offering to just get this thing just out the door and released to everyone that "might" want to buy a copy? Please come forward and be heard on this matter.Well, i don't know. In your starting post you mention that the costs are going to be at least $50. Most replies in this thread state that people are interested in the release, but not for $50 (or more). So to me it seems logical that somehow you have to cut some costs.
Drop the manual and box art (just put the designs on a webpage somewhere where people can download them and print them themselves. That saves about $5,- according to your specs. Leave out the shipping at first. I know that you have to pay it eventually, but at least the cart would *look* cheaper

Well, GameFAQs says it'll be out in Feb. 2006, but I dunno if that's reliable (all things considered). But it sounded fun, at least.

How about charging prices based on the percentage rating from AtariTimes divided by 2 (e.g., Zool 2 = 70%, so that'd be $35)?
I don't think eBay is very reasonable. Just because someone will pay $500 for Battlesphere doesn't mean it's really worth quite that much (although that's just my opinion).
P.S. I also suggest not to base prices on box condition/availability at all. Why do people even collect those things?! It's only cardboard!

No, it's quite good when it's not "asleep" (from inactivity). There are many dedicated, informative people over there, and you don't need to login to read or post. If you don't like it, no biggie. I keep JI2 and AtariAge both on my FireFox bookmark toolbar.
EDIT: Nice avatar, kevincal!

I only have the SNES version, which, IIRC, has six characters (TriggerHappy, etc.), and I indeed did beat it on the first try. BUT, there are additional difficulties ("pro"), which will tell you a code to something if you beat that. However, THAT was too hard for me.

What, can't afford Tournament Cyberball? You're right, that's a rare gem of a game.
I still say it's heat.I have about 30+ games and there all good...I keep them in my bedroom closet.
I wish I had a few extra lynx games to experiment with heat and sunlight with.

Interesting, but I'm not sure I believe you.
If the light is YELLOW --> you have either:
A) Modded Jaguar unit
or
B) An authentic NATS (Northern Arctic Transmission Signal) Atari Jaguar console. These Very Rare units were specially built for the American shipping traders for their voyages in the Arctic. Apart from the Yellow LED light, they could be easily distinguished from other Atari Jaguar units by checking the back of the console: there is NO power outlet! These models ran on solar power (as distinguished by the small but visible solar panels sitting on either side of the Jag's cartridge port). Unfortunately, no CD Add-On units were ever produced for the NATS' models as Atari (or more correctly, the Tramiels) were looking at cutting back costs due to their increasing financial losses at the time, and thought that these units were too much of a niche market and that could be let go. As such, neither the Americo-Arctic fisherman fleets nor the Eskimos ever got to experience my favourite Jag CD Game: Vid Grid!
I hope that has answered your question Walter.
Regards,
Aleks

Super Breakout would be okay, but the controls are what you'd have to be careful with. I've seen some Breakout-ish games (e.g., Woody Pop on Game Gear) use a button to speed up/slow down (a la Qix). Maybe that'd be the best way to go with it.
Rugxulo (feels bad that Super Breakout hasn't gotten any votes yet)

So what other Jag games do you own but not play? Your three favorites seem to be 3D games, so I'd assume you'd also like Iron Soldier 2, Wolfenstein 3D, Battlemorph, Skyhammer, World Tour Racing(?), Tempest 2000, Breakout 2000, Highlander, etc.
It competed well with the 3DO, at least price-wise. The PS1 and Saturn came out well after the Jag with different goals in mind.
It's easy to complain that the Jag doesn't have enough games, but if you only have 17 games, start buying!
And on a sidenote, I now feel that every Jag owner should also have a Lynx, as many of its games are excellent, and it's a great complement to the Jag's library. Don't ignore the Lynx, it's well worth it!
i've always had fun with the very few good games I have. I have 17 different games. with 3 that are worth playing. AVP, Iron Soldier, DoomBeing a fan of the jag I'm also very open minded to it. I AM NOT A SUPER FANBOY LIKE MOST PEOPLE IN THE JAG FORUM.
People on this forum will defend the jag to their death if need be based on things that never were.
In reality, and this is in regards to cartridge games and games not produced after the official end of the Jaguar, The games sucked. They were not 64-bit in any aspect of the meaning of 64-bit. I read somewhere the Jag was capable of 24-bit at most graphics. Most games looked as good or worse than SNES and Genesis games. The official games were mostly rip off of mainstream games, Kusami Ninja and Ultra Vortek, MK rip offs. And it only had 50+ games released for it, that should tell you something right there.
It was a horrible system for mainstream buyers. It could not compete with 3do let alone try to compete with the PS1 and Saturn. IT couldn't even compete with the SNES and Genesis. It was just another typical Atari system much like the 7800.

I never understood that stuff, and the supposed legal problems just seem pointless (why would anyone refuse to sell what is clearly marketable?). StarROMs sounded like a GREAT idea, but no companies took them up on it. Whatever, their loss.
And finally these are StarROMS games that were briefly available but were pulled when it was discovered that Atari(Infogrames) did not have the license to them. StarROMS claims that they negotiated a deal with Midway to keep these legal for those who purchased them. Again, the list contains just those games not collected elsewhere:
I, Robot, Arcade Classics, Beat Head, Off the Wall, Road Riot's Revenge, Skull & Crossbones, Sparkz, ThunderJaws, Blasteroids, Escape From the Planet of the Robot Monsters, Tetris, Road Runner, Hydra, Batman

Some of these I own, some I want, some I barely want, but they all at least stand SOME chance of being fun. Check out GameFAQs for more info/screenshots (or VG Museum) and Good Deal Games or Game Express for some games/accessories.

The anniversary collection has five different variations of Street Fighter 2 where you can mix up the characters from each version against each other. Also, it had the animated movie and Street Fighter 3. Besides, I've read (maybe wrongly) that only one version of SF2 will be on this compilation.

People say that backwards compatibility doesn't matter, but I disagree. It may not be a deal breaker, but it's still a cool feature. PS2 has it, so it's hard to beat that (since neither XBox has it fully). There probably aren't that many XBox exclusives you'd want (Ninja Gaiden Black, perhaps??) vs. all of Sony's stuff (Kalamari Squidy??
).However, the current XBox has some excellent games (some are VERY cheap too: I personally am kicking myself for not buying more games!!!). You'll have to buy the DVD add-on kit, though (but I hear games like the Dragon's Lair DVD plays smoother on XBox than PS2). Getting OXM every month helps (demos, reviews, screenshots). TeamXBox's website has loads of cool info/media. Also, I think there are 70+ Platinum Hits (which is quite a lot).
Anyways, if you want a DVD player out of the box and are leaning towards an XBox, wait for the XBox 360 (which has Minter's VLM thingy). You can even win one. That truly might be the cheapest option!
Since I got into modern consoles in late 2003, I've been a Nintendo loyalist, due mainly to my interest in the Metroid and Zelda franchises, but I'm starting to sour. Certain games not making it to the 'Cube has been frustrating (but as a Mac user, I'm used to it).<snip>
So I'm leaning towards the XBOX, mainly because I hate Sony, and haven't been impressed with what I've seen of the PlayStation consoles so far. But I'd like to have one that also plays DVDs. Do you need some kind of add-on for the XBOX to play DVDs, or does it do so right out of the box?

I've read (but never played/verified) that the Game Boy Color version is the best. I think it supposedly has extended levels, too. Anyone got it?
The Gameboy version does not even ATTEMPT to port the arcade game, rapidly collapses into a puzzle game, and should not even be considered for the purpose of this thread, which seeks accurate ports. Are you sure your thining of the original gameboy donkey kong and not the gameboy advance Mario Vs Donkey Kong?
Although the gameboy version has many more levels, that are puzzlelike, it also has the original four levels , they seem to be the best home version I have ever seen. How can you say it cant be considered?

I liked Sonic 2, but most people thought it was too hard. Actually, I think the typo in the manual about how to fly the hang glider would count as frustrating. I have beat it (and Chaos, too) but have yet to find all the chaos emeralds in either for the "real" ending. You can play as Tails in Chaos, and that game is actually on Sonic Mega Collection Plus (XBox) as well as a few others, but they left off Sonic 2.
P.S. Sonic Spinball (Game Gear) is fun, too (best music, IMO)!

Sonic 2 for the GG blows, but Sonic Chaos (I believe tht's the name, I'm too lazy to go digging through my collection right now) was really good.

What, no one likes the Game Gear version? At least one person on GameFAQs said it was the best portable one. I haven't really tried any other versions, but it ain't too shabby!
P.S. I have yet to figure when you get an extra life (beyond the first one). Oh, and I never did unlock Ms. Pac-Man from Pac Man World 2 (XBox)...that's just HARD!

Yeah, I got a base Jag unit in early '97 from Tiger Direct, too, with AvP, Raiden, NBA Jam, and Cybermorph. I declined on the CD add-on at that time because all I saw in that catalog was Battlemorph (only one CD game + CD console = waste of money, IMHO). I really didn't know anything about Atari, though, just figured it was discounted to compete with the N64. I eventually got my JagCD from VGLQ at the end of '97 (December?) plus a few extra games (Highlander, Myst, Dragon's Lair).
In January 1997, Tiger Direct was offering a new Jaguar video game system at an exclusive price of $59.99 which included AvP, Raiden, NBA Jam, in addition to the Cybermorph pack-in. (According to some sources, Tiger paid $20 for the consoles and $1 to $5 for software in a huge liquidation purchase from JTS.)
Tiger Direct started offering more bundled games, including the CD attachment for $69.00 and bundled CD games, and I picked up every single one of the game packs. I think one had Defender 2000, Missile Command 3D, Attack of the Mutant Penguins, and something else. Wolfenstein 3D was in there, too, as well as Hover Strike. Most of the game packs consisted of the rarer titles. These game packs were something like $40 for 4 games, and I think the CD pack was also $10 per title. I should've bought more at those prices, but I was working on my MA and a very poor grad student.

Why, oh Why, am I NOT Surprised...

I don't personally find the XBox controller (smaller S series?) perfectly comfortable, but it's never really stopped me from playing. Haven't played much in the past few months, though.
I think the Jag controller is nice, probably deserves a B. The SNES controller isn't too bad either, probably also a B. However, giving the original NES an A is ridiculous, that thing was blocky. There's nothing great about that one besides its simplicity.
P.S. Don't forget that different people react differently based on hand size, how hard they press, personal taste, and what button combos work best for them (e.g., re: fighting games, some people prefer SNES to XBox). Worst controller? I'd say PC mouse (way overrated interface, IMO ... when you whole OS depends on it for everything, you've got a problem).
