1. Besides Pac Man World (1,2,3), the only other "modern" improvement I've seen is Pacifi3d (emulator). Check out the screenshots:

    http://pacifi3d.retrogames.com/pacifi3d/

Personally, though, I think Centipede 2000 and Dactyl Joust seem the most interesting ideas for a remake.

Combat 2000 would be awesome if they made it like maximum destruction (saturn/psx).  Space invaders 2000 could have been what the psx version should have been, you know fun.  And centipede 2000 would have been very cool.

How about Pitfall 2000....oh wait they did make that.... ;)

There was actually a proposal for Space Invaders VR. I have the original document posted on my site. No details yet, haven't had the time, but plan to put the entire thing up for folks to read. You can check it out here:

    Jag VR Page

Click the picture to see a larger shot of the proposal.

The Centipede 2000 demo that was posted here a while back looked very promising. That would have been an incredible release.

Also, Pac Man VR essentially is what a Pac-Man or Ms. Pac-Man 2000 would look like. It's actually quite fun, those ghosts startle you when you come around corners. :)

  2. Personally, I think the Alien and Marine are too difficult, so I prefer the Predator. I never had the patience to finish, though (got close with Predator twice or so). It'd take me about three hours to find the Queen again, and all those cocoons...eek! I tend to run in circles, so the linear travel of the Predator (kill everything, go to next floor, etc.) works best for me (plus has the best weapons and "honor" code stuff). I personally don't think any of the vision modes actually work except green (or maybe pink). Anyone actually use the "heat seeking" blue/red/yellow(?) mode? It's actually a pretty hard game, IMO.

What is the most satisfying scenario for you in Alien vs. Predator? Right now I'm trying to play through the Alien mission, and it's kind of up in the air between that and the Colonial Marine mission.

    Some pros and cons:

    USCM pros:

    -weapon variety

    -fear factor

-more interaction with environment, well developed storyline

    USCM cons:

    -sloooow movement

-takes way too long to change out weapons

    -frustrating security card hunting process

    Alien pros:

    -super fast gameplay

    -cocooning

    -instant access to all 'weapons'

    Alien cons:

    -backtracking

-no other Aliens around besides you

I like the Predator scenario, but that one is pretty easy, since all you do is mess around until you get the Plasma Cannon and then destroy the Queen. I like it more for the novelty that you can play with the different visions that the Predator has, plus it is kinda fun to go invisible and sneak up on the marines.

  3. Correct me if I'm wrong: I copied and pasted the averages and then averaged those 74 scores via GAWK and got 6.29988 out of 10 (which is pretty good, IMO, for any console). Obviously, this doesn't include the "N/A" and "28 D" scores, plus it's highly subjective anyways. Your list does show that people LOVE the Jag, though, since many games have high individual scores. :lust:

P.S. The Atari Times review list of 76 Jag games averages to 69.0395% out of 100%. Do the math, indeed! ;)

it seems time for me to add my shameless plug now (and I am pretty sure Greg will join soon ;) )

This is a little program I made a little while ago, just for fun, and it became an interesting comparison chart.

    60 entries so far...

  4. Super Pac-Man was ported to the Game Boy Color (on a two-pack with Ms.Pac-Man). So, keep an eye out for that on eBay if you really want it.

Pac-man and Ms. Pacman were correct unlike the lame console version (more on this later).  You can even rotate the screen sideways!  Oddly this makes me think of the Atari Lynx.

Very odd indeed, since vertical mode was a Wonderswan feature. :P

Plus I still miss the apparent bastard child Jr. Pacman (plus Super Pac-man).

Pac Jr. is in licensing limbo.

Midway owns the game, but Namco owns the name.

Super Pac... I dunno why it's not showing up.

  5. This has happened before, supposedly with Klax for GameBoy Color, IIRC.

You're right.  The manual says there should be a sound option (for changing the volume of the music) and yet there is no option in the game.

The game doesn't have any music.  I'm assuming that, when they had the manuals printed up, they were planning to have background music, and then somehow over the course of squeezing the game into the GBA cart, they decided to drop the music (maybe there was no room on the cart, or they didn't have time to do it).

It's still a good game, but it's a little dry without the background music moving you through all 50-some levels.

  6. I beat this game a while ago (XBox), and you don't need to get all the tokens to finish it, but I (of course) wanted to unlock a bunch of stuff. I gave up after approximately 150 tokens (unlocked everything including the museum) because it's just TOO HARD! Why do you have to do a bunch of time trials just to get Ms. Pac-Man? I mean, really, has anyone actually unlocked everything, including Ms. Pac-Man??

  7. Didn't you just have another kid? Hey, it doesn't hurt to think ahead for the future (Songbird and Son Productions).

How is the Mystery Lynx Project coming along?

Not as fast as I'd like... but that's because I'm working on another Mystery Project this summer. ;)

And to distract myself even more, the annual Mini-game Competition has got me thinking about two different ideas for small, fun, and original arcade-style games. If only there were 5 of me to get all these projects finished... :D

  8. Are you talking about the arcade version? A few years ago I was addicted enough with SF2 (SNES) to try that (the SNES controllers aren't that bad, IMO)...and eventually succeeded (if he corners you, you're dead...blocking sometimes helped, Ken's fireballs and super uppercuts sometimes helped too...avoid jumping into his forcefield). I was disappointed that the ending wasn't any different, though.

I've had less frustration beating Bison on the hardest difficulty of Street Fighter II, and he just outright cheats and ignores the physics engine of the game!

Now, I have to buy a new controller.

    Crap.

  9. Dragon's Lair (NTSC only? haven't barely touched it since I beat it, though)

Blue Lightning (one of my favorite games for the Jag)

Baldies (I love this game, but it is tedious sometimes)

Braindead 13 (buggy but interesting: nice art/theme)

Black Ice/White Noise (interesting even if a bit easy to get lost)

Highlander (beat it years ago, nice game but seems too hard nowadays)

Vid Grid (nice novelty, some good tunes, worth having, but slide puzzles are hard)

Myst (nice but haven't touched in a year...and I'm SO CLOSE TO THE END!)

VLM (play Tempest 2000 soundtrack or anything else for that matter)

Painter (want it fairly badly, when will it be encrypted???)

Native (only a demo, no sound, don't have it but looks cool)

Ocean Depths (hey, don't forget this gem although again I don't have it yet)

Eerievale (a must have when it comes out...in 2010!) ;)

World Tour Racing (don't have it but it looks cool)

Hoverstrike CD (don't have it but looks good too)

Battlemorph (some people say this one is the best Jag game ever; I don't have it)

The VLM is less unique nowadays since other alternatives exist (Nuon, XBox 360), and some of these games can be gotten elsewhere. The only real problem (ignoring price and rarity) would be that it might break or wear out (since they aren't as mint as they used to be). If you already have a ton of Jag cart games, go ahead and get one. Otherwise, if you aren't a diehard fan, just skip it and get either an XBox or XBox 360 instead (w/ Live if possible).

Yeah I've seen this one. I already have 2 units (only one is working though) and I think this guy is too expensive.

Anyway, I honestly don't understand why the CD Addon is so darn expensive... It hasn't given me a lot of yet :(. Maybe I don't have the right games yet?

    888547

Yeah I'd really like a cd addon for mine, but I just can't see spending that much money for one. Is it really worth it? I mean for the fun to money ration I could go out and buy a ps2 for less.

  10. IS II yes

    Myst yes

    Baldies yes

    877413

You don't need the Memory Track for Baldies or Myst, so it's strictly optional for those (besides, rumor says it takes up too much space for Baldies).

Something like Highlander would be hard to complete without it, but you can beat Blue Lightning without it (I did, once) although it'd take half a day.

Braindead 13 is just plain buggy (although an interesting game). I got frustrated and had to look up a walkthrough after a few crashes (and because I couldn't find the elevator...stupid mirrored "get the eye" rooms).

  11. Which Pac Game do you enjoy the most? My favourite is Pac Man Plus but I figger Ms Pac will probably be the frontrunner in this poll

Fonzie won't make it without your help!

I already voted for my favorite (Ms., because I can't remember any others besides the way-too-hard original), so this is on behalf of my brother. He used to :lust: LOVE :lust: Pac-Land! I bought him a Lynx, but he eventually gave up because he said it was too hard (even with the 330ne cheat...which, BTW, is a zero, not an "oh").

Also, I read an interview with Christopher Lambert (Highlander) a while back in which he claimed affinity for the original.

  12. What arcade games are you talking about?  The jaguar seems very very light in terms of arcade games.  I can only think of 1 and thats raiden.  I dont think the 2000 games really count since they never went to arcades.

    874163

The mighty Lynx was the "portable arcade," not the Jaguar (although don't forget NBA Jam:TE and the unreleased Total Carnage).

  13. In this month's issue of Gameroom Magazine there is a picture of the 25th anniversary edition of Pac-Man/Ms. Pac-Man/Galgaga arcade game.  Basically it is the same as the 20th anniversary Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga (since you could play Pac-Man too) but in a Pac-Man theme cabinet and not available in a cocktail.

By the way, in case anyone is wondering, the site below tells how to play the original Pac-Man in the Ms.Pac-Man/Galaga combo.

    Easter Eggs

  14. I just got Vol 1 for PS1 today, and I'm waiting for Vol 5 to come to my house. I already had Vol 3 for awhile. Now all I need to get early next month is Volume 2 and 4 and then I'll be complete. Wish me luck.

    874507

Good luck on volume 2. You can expect to pay upwards of $100 for a complete one that is working and hasn't been resurfaced. If you do find it, it is the only one to feature Super Pacman so it id definitely worth it!

    874512

The GameBoy Color actually has a combo Ms. Pac-Man/Super Pac-Man cart if you'd like a portable version. I saw one or two on eBay a while back, but I skipped it. It was about $20, I think, but might be somewhat hard to find. There's also a Pac-Man/Pac-Attack combo cart, too.

  15. The keypad wouldn't have been expensive to reproduce at all, and it is questionable if it was even needed.  Most games didn't use it, and a third party controller could've easily not included it.

The 3DO, which had the same very uncertain future thanks to its price point seems to have had about 1983641 third party controllers for it.  Okay, it isn't that many, but there was controllers by Logitech, Interact, and a bunch of others.  Hell, even Logitech made a NUON controller.  It's just surprising that no one took a swing at the Jaguar, which was originally thought to be the "next big console."

    857324

It's hard to imagine Baldies or Alien Vs. Predator without the keypad. Besides, there have been a few rotary controllers (do those not count as third party?), so the Jag isn't completely bereft. No controller seems to be universally liked, though, and I personally find the normal Jag controller feels and works pretty good.

O.T. I'm looking to buy a good, new XBox controller, any suggestions? P.M. me.
