  1. I picked this one up late last year and have really enjoyed it. I Haven't gotten into paying attention to the hiero combos yet. I just pick up as many as I can, since most combos at least give you points. It would be great to see a hack of this game to create some sort of end-goal. Something as simple as a cut screen after level 8 would do the trick. Or maybe someone could go all out and make several cut screens, including an intro, maybe a big boss at the end, and perhaps extra points for finishing. Also, a graphical hack to clean up the colors would be great. I really like the graphics overall, but a lot of the levels have . . . interesting color choices that I'm guessing most of us could do without.
  2. Two more thoughts: 1) I can't emphasize enough how awesome Wizard of Wor is for cooperative play on the platform--especially considering the limits of the system and how rare cooperative play games are. 2) The 7800 has way more cooperative games available. Off the top of my head, Centipede, Asteroids, Dark Chambers, Joust, and Mario Bros. all have cooperative modes that my sons like to play with me on occasion. Oh, and Basketbrawl. There are others.
  3. I compiled scores from as many sources as I could find to come up with a ranking of the top 150 original games. Here are the highest ranking games on that list that have simultaneous two-player options, in alphabetical order: Atlantis, Combat, Demon Attack, Ice Hockey, Joust, Space Invaders, Wizard of Wor, Warlords Of those, the ones I would most recommend Atlantis, Joust, and Wizard of Wor for cooperative play. Wizard of Wor is by far my favorite for cooperative play. I would most recommend for competitive play Combat, Ice Hockey, and Warlords. Warlords is my favorite for competitive play. Demon Attack and Space Invaders have two player modes, but they are not really known for those modes, I think it's safe to say, so I wouldn't really keep them on the list--though both are great one player games.

    Super Cobra

So, to my question: Do the tanks shoot in the 7800 Scramble, but not the Super Cobra hack? Or is the "tank issue" in both games?

    Super Cobra

Hello, six and a half years later. So is this hack identical to the Scramble game currently offered in the store, except that it has a helicopter instead of a rocket? Or are there other differences as well? Specifically, do both games have the "tank issue"? Or is that just an issue that arose in the Super Cobra hack? I'm asking because GoodDealGames has them in stock and at some point I will get one of the four various homebrew Scramble/Super Cobra games on offer on the 2600 and 7800. Thanks in advance! In any event, it looks like a blast. Thanks for your hard work on this.
  6. I'm still new to all this, so thanks in advance for your patience. It is my understanding that it is technically not legal to use/distribute ROMs and that distributing/playing a ROM of a game you don't own without permission suspect. I see that not only is EMU7800 available on the Windows Store, it has been for years now. Maybe I'm naïve, but this just feels and looks more "legit" to me. Does EMU7800 have Atari's sanction or some sort of permission to host the (many) ROMs that it has? I know it's not a big deal, but I want to do everything I can to play my Atari games with integrity. Thanks for any informed insight! Jim
  7. Forgive me if this was mentioned, but Galagon says it has a two-player-simultaneous mode. I think that looks like one I'll one to pick up eventually.
  8. I've been playing a lot with my seven year old son, and a little with my ten year old son and two player simultaneous games where we can work together are the best. The 7800 has some pretty fun ones. The 2600, not so much. I guess it makes sense, given the limitation to two sprites at a time. I guess I didn't realize how impressive the programing for the old WoW must have been to take advantage of the 2600's limited hardware the way it does to create a fast-paced simultaneous two-player shoot-em-up.
  9. Really? What's the point of Xenophobe's split screen, then? So, basically the only game on the 2600 where you can run around with a partner shooting baddies is Wizard of Wor. Does that sound right? My dad, who passed last year, used to spend hours playing Wizard of Wor, and sometimes we would play together. My parents' passing was sort of the impetus for me becoming interested in rediscovering Atari games, and I'm especially interested in 2600 or 7800 games I can play with my son, the way my dad played with me.
  10. I've looked into it a bit more, and it looks like Ikari is alternating. My bad.
  11. So Ikari Warriors on the 2600 is simultaneous? I just read a review that says it's two player alternating (unlike other versions of the same game on other systems). Looks like that review was wrong? Thanks for verifying.
  12. This is a massive thread, considering it is only one month old! This sounds amazing. So, will an XM enable an NTSC 7800 to play PAL games? I'll be watching, for sure. If there is a wait list, I'd love to get on it.
  13. As for waiting around, I'm not holding out a lot of hope these days for Alien Brigade or Ikari Warriors. I've been checking ebay every day for over a month, probably, and I don't know that I've seen a single NTSC Alien Brigade or Ikari. I'm not saying they don't exist. But finding one sure ain't easy. *edit* That is, unless you count this listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Atari-7800-Pro-System-Console-with-All-57-Games-Entire-Library-Complete/352940121077?hash=item522cdedbf5:g:xMMAAOSwf8FbnTvw lol
  14. I've found four games not on this list that, according to descriptions, are two player simultaneous. Combat II Dark Chambers Ikari Warriors Xenophobe Other than Combat II, I've not played these games, but I've read/watched reviews that indicate they are all two player simultaneous.
  15. Nice! Thanks. *edit* Of course this comes back around to the question of the legitimacy of using the ROM in the first place. Unless this multi-cart was made with permission?
  16. So, when buying on eBay and the seller is unsure if a cart is PAL or NTSC, how can you tell the difference? Will they have different skus printed on the cart or something?
  17. Add me to the list of those iso Ikari Warriors . . . After stdfxf15 finds his copy, of course!
  18. stdjxf15 You are completely justified in your confusion. In context, the quote certainly seems to be speaking of someone ordering a repro cartridge, and makes no sense otherwise. Albert, thank you for clarifying. I'm new to this scene, obviously, but already I appreciate your hard work tremendously.
  19. Albert, I'm a tiny bit confused. Can you do a repro of Ikari Warriors? I thought it was clear that you couldn't, up until this comment. Thanks! *edit* And I thought Ikari Warriors was a game that was released? And exceeded 32K anyway? Thanks in advance for any clarification!
  20. Great! Thanks! And, who is AI? I am looking at the other thread now.
  21. So, how would one go about asking here? Are there any buy/sell/trade threads? Just start a iso thread? I'm completely new to all this, so thanks for your patience.
  22. So, off topic but to my main point: What is the best way to get a hold of one of the rare games for NTSC? I'm most interested in, more or less in this order: Ikari Warriors Alien Brigade Ninja Golf Midnight Mutants I can find Ninja Golf and Midnight Mutants for NTSC, for ridiculous prices--but at least I have the option. But I can't find *ANY* Ikari or Alien Brigade. Of course, there are other options for Ikari (SNK arcade for modern consoles, NES, etc.), so that leaves Alien Brigade as the one game that is impossible to play, afaik. I see that AtariAge will make custom carts from Roms. What is the legality of using a ROM for an oop and unavailable game? I've read conflicting things online. I'm sure others have looked into all this. I found the thread here on the legality of ROMs for obsolete hardware to be somewhat helpful, but it still all seems fuzzy. Thanks in advance!
