Season 18 Round 8 of 15 - Circus Charlie
fakecortex replied to asponge's topic in NES High Score Club
I'll start this off with a score I hope to increase if I can figure out how to do the trapeze stage. 48,170 Stage 5 no coins Looking back at my scores and notes from January, I was able to abuse the coins on stage 1 to intentionally die and repeat the stage for a high of around 450k. I might try it again to share here. It's grueling but fun. My notes also showed that I got to stage 11, which means not too long ago I was able to swing on the trapeze like a pro, but today, I was having no such luck. I first came across this game a number of years ago on a Japanese multicart where it was named "Circus Chablie". I have since gotten my own Famicom and the original cartridge, which is my favorite to play on the system, but he will forever be Chablie to me -
Wow, these scores are seriously impressive you guys. Interesting to see that the game ends. I want some weapon upgrades, but I know that as soon as I spend points on them, I'll end up dying quickly and lose them. But from the looks of it, it helps and the loss of points in no way stops you from an insanely high score, if you have it in ya.

Not sure if I have the time or patience to make it through the other skill settings, but I did have fun going through on easy! I can see myself getting into this outside the club tho. I managed to get all the items and boat, axe, and key my way past the barriers, huzzah! Getting a picture here is hard, I'm not quite sure what I'm looking at. Was I on my last guy? I guess this gets me a point for participation if nothing else. Skill Level 1, 1 dude remaining?

Hmph. Sure you're keeping an eye on the number on the top left? That's your stray count, which goes down for each cow that leaves the screen to the left. Before you get the hang of it, it goes down fast. Aaaaand I just realized you were talking about the non-random games, like skill 2. Yikes. I love the variations in these games, keeps them fresh. Played some D&D earlier w/o reading the manual...so I have three dead party members to show for it. (At least I have the overlay.) Now read, I'll sleep on it, and be ready to tackle it tomorrow, lol. I think I'll start on easy... This is harder than regular D&D. I keep throwing dice at my TV, but no luck. That was stupid, haha, goodnight. *edit* whoops, just saw Matt's comment come through. Hope that's the issue and not an emulator or hardware issue.

Whoo got to level 3! (No looping.) My thumbs are killin' me. Might be time to bust out the NES Max... 81,910 Level 3

Although I know the pattern and strategy for Stampede, it's still a game I can't get too too far in, although I always have a blast playing it. In my head, I should be thousands ahead of where I am, lol. But it's definitely a game that you need a steady strategy for. You can't rush in ropin' all them doggies. Just not possible.

I got this score when I couldn't find the level 1 wanted poster and I was forced to loop it a bit. But when I played again, found it, and got to the second level fast, I had a lower score than yesterday. So...I hope this entry is legal. Still has me last, so it doesn't affect anyone yet hahaha. Is there a trick with finding the wanted posters? I've checked the maps, but sometimes they don't show up when I go to the spot. It looks like they appear above a barrel, but can they disappear? I feel like there's something I'm missing. Like you have to shoot, or not shoot, a certain area. I'm gonna do some research. *edit* went back to the instruction manual and it was right there. Ya need to shoot the blank area 8 times. 65,650 Level 1

The Official "Thrift finds" Thread

I've seen TVs on the road or by dumpsters with their cords cut before too, makes me upset. What kind of life did that tv have before it was heartlessly struck down? What kind of old games could it have gone on to play? 😭 I'm wondering if it has to do with not getting in the way when the trash guys pick it up; like maybe it's at their request? -
According to: https://strategywiki.org/wiki/Gun.Smoke_(NES)/Walkthrough (that @Razzie.P shared) "In this game, points aren't for showing off a high-score, they are actually dollars that you collect and spend at shops." Yeah, tell that to this HSC...

Probably shouldn't have bought that first wanted poster...I'll take a look at that map. When you play for levels and not score, you want to buys stuff and try out different weapons, so the game plays a bit differently. Does everyone pretty much avoid spending any money at all? 42,370 Level 2

My controllers are definitely borked. I was finding the best success with a Genesis pad (and of course having to do the quick swap 🙄). I got around 105k I think but then the score went away before I could take a pic. Turns out my old Zenith cuts off the score in the top left, so I'll have to play on another, hah.
