  1. I presume Jacob has a life that he leads and updates the scores as time/interest allows. I've usually tried to avoid nagging him for updates as that seemed impolite. It's all here in the thread if you don't wish to wait for the next update. Congrats on the great score!! (Looks like you're currently tied for 2nd with @mr_me)
  2. Who would have thought that success would come down discipline in this game more than reflexes. I'm constantly saying "stick to the plan" to myself and usually failing to do so. In Anti Pac-Man, you wouldn't go wrong if you never killed a single ghost and I find that remarkably hard to do. Not meaning the incidental "he was in my way" ones, I mean that I'm still actually chasing them down for a measly 200-600 points and just can't break myself of that habit. When I die, it's almost always the result of a ghost I shouldn't have killed. They're just sooooooooooo tasty! 🙂
  3. Then you've learned not to do the strategies that make your score go down.... 🙂
  4. Keep at it! Keep picking away at what gives short vs long term gain and compare where you are by turn 10 with different strategies. Those first 10 turns are what makes or breaks a good game.
  5. Do you have to map the A and B buttons to specific inputs, or is it sufficient to just glue the A&B buttons from another controller onto my Intellivision controller?
  6. Dude. Stop. (For the good of your health, not because I'm concerned it's impossible for me to top your score or anything) 🙂
  7. Why does that game kill my firing thumb so bad? I don't have to press hard, yet I *have* to press hard... Lol.
  8. Man, what is it with me and near-misses on Activision patches? LOL... 73,833
  9. Or just pay attention to how your score changes based on what you build. It may be a little chaotic at first, but gets pretty clear as you get closer to 100. AKA: Math the shit out of it! 🙂
  10. That is pretty much precisely the point of the HSC. Try a game you wouldn't have otherwise played, spend more time with it than you otherwise would, and in the process get to know and appreciate the nuances of the game. Another huge thanks to @JacobZu7zu7 for keeping this alive. Wish I had known about this years ago, but very glad to have eventually found my way here!!
  11. Yep, still trying to convince the laptop to go for fruit instead of ghosts, but I'll get there.
  12. He just means we usually confirm the settings (unless there are none like Pac-Man) on score posts. No one is questioning anyone's integrity. 🙂
  13. Congrats for getting over 2600, thats getting pretty darned close to optimal!
  14. Nice improvement! Gets fun when you try different things to eek out a few more points 🙂
  15. Yep, left island hits are generally more rare, but more severe when they do hit. If it's late enough in the game and you have money saved up, hurricanes are your friend. Fewer pesky people to house and feed... 🙂 Overall, I love the 'hurricane alley' effect and how the storms do have general trends, but anything can happen. I had a single hurricane make *3* passes the full length of the right island today. It was epic!
  16. Absolutely! I'm happy to chat in general terms in the meantime though 🙂 Part of the fun is comparing notes and learning. Granted, this one is more strategy than reflex, but there's still a significant gameplay component to it.
  17. Today's high score is tomorrow's chronic repetitive strain injury! Oorah!
  18. In my defense at the upcoming tribunal, when going for pure high score, I do not try to engineer the demise of all of my fellow islanders. I just don't encourage population growth. Have to keep the riff raff off the beaches so they don't spoil my view!
  19. What he said. Although in my defense, I perfectly answered the question as stated. 🙂
