I’m thinking if getting another console and keeping my FE closed. I’m wondering how much the extra controllers will cost. I’m not looking for an exact price but more like $30 ? $50 ? Tommy ? I’m buying extra controllers anyway so I may just get an extra system or 2 and use those controllers. Any estimate for the controller price ? 2 pack ?

If you can manage to not open that FE console when it comes a week ahead of the normal unit....  Well, you're way more patient than most of us!  🙂

I wonder how many people who got the FE will also get a VIP pre-order.  If nothing else, it gives you four controllers to play with.  When you add it all up, it's actually a really good value.

Lol... I have an FE and wasn't planning on getting a VIP, but you just convinced me on the controllers angle. Household of 4 and now I don't have to worry about tracking down extra ones and I'll hook up the spare in my office for "work time" 🙂

You're a bad influence, Vongruetz! Lol

Its definitely the same game.  Nothing is easier or harder.  That was my whole point as well.  The exec just slows down the game by 25% when you press 1, that's it.  Jacob please consider this.

I'm fine with you getting the record for disc speed as long as I get the record for speed 1 play.  It takes extra concentration to maintain focus and not get bored in speed 1.  🙂

This is going to be hopefully fun and interesting for me,because I gotta admit, for whatever reason I have never actually played this game!👍🤔

    That's what's great about HSC!  🙂

It's decently entertaining, and changing height is a fun tactic/escape mechanism.  The meat of the game is definitely in target selection, so be sure to check out the instructions for score values.  Also, it's really satisfying when you nail both sides of a bridge! 🙂

An almost respectable score (for me!).

I need to get better at hitting the recognizer. I can see that it really helps if you can keep a few doors open as you start each new round!

Nice! Getting above 100k is where it gets fun. Lots of enemy variety, 10k per kill, 5 hits to kill you, etc. Good stuff if you can adjust to the AI being stronger. Avoid those heavy disks at all costs! 🙂

What.... I never realized crops had a down side!

Each crop adds +.3% to the birth rate, each fishing boat adds 0%.  Both have the same effect on food score.  Granted, crops are considerably cheaper...  🙂

  7. Tommy, any chance of the next Meet Amico video showing a game with the disc used for directional control?  I've really liked seeing the creative use of the controller in the Missile Command & SideSwiper videos, but in both cases, the disc was just used as an alternative to button presses.

It would be great to see something more "old school" like the original Intellivision controller, using directional disc, side buttons, and maybe even touch screen all in the same game.  For bonus points: have everyone on the couch and a few folks holding the controller in different orientations.

Where did we leave it with doing two games at once?

I believe Jacob said he'd be starting it up this week.  Usually he starts a new game sometime on Monday, but he has this "life" thing that occasionally interferes with him being at our constant beck and call.  Some people.  Sheesh.  🙂

  9. In playing Utopia with my daughter recently, I was reminded of the speed play we used to do BITD.  While we did enjoy a good old-fashioned 50 turns/120 seconds game of trying to screw each other over and get negative population, we didn't always want to spend 100 minutes playing, so we started doing incredibly short games.  We mostly played quick 10 minute games of either 20 turns/30 seconds or 15 turns/40 seconds, usually in "peace" mode.  I think we settled on 15/40 as the best balance since 20/30 was a little hectic and 15/40 still gave you a decent shot at scoring 100 by the end.

Anyone else play this way?  It goes by awfully fast and it was fun to try to set high scores since early decisions and build patterns really matter.  With my daughter, we seem to be scoring in the 800-1100 range, with her on the lower end because she has this fascination with actually planting crops...   🙂
