  1. Yup, you can really tell it came from the makers of Metal Slug graphically, everything kind of hand-drawn looking, the attention to detail in some of the backgrounds etc is superb as well. Hard as nails of course, but not as bad as you might thing, I certainly think the 1cc is attainable for me with a little more practice, nearly managed that on the Saturn version but lost my last life on the final boss in one run and had to continue.
  2. What about the Jag games for sale at Telegames.co.uk - I take it those are repro’s? Just I notice they have Worms for a fairly reasonable price. http://www.telegames.co.uk/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=5436 looks slightly fishy to me...
  3. Fun game, I’ve recently put a lot of time into the Saturn version (suffers from terrible slowdown). Not sure I’d pay the $70 price point though, particularly as the arcade version can be played for a few bucks on modern consoles, would be an interesting novelty though.
  4. Yeah it was a nice bonus including tnt and plutonia for no extra cost - these games will always be best on PC but I don’t always feel like sitting hunched at the keyboard and mouse for hours on end, it is nice to have the option on a modern console. At the time people were up in arms about the state of these ports, and yes it was kind of bad that the 360 version was superior - on the other hand they cost less than the price of a pint of beer, so aside from the Bethesda account thing I wasn’t too worried, but it is nice that they’ve listened and taken the trouble to patch the games to this excellent standard.
  5. Didn’t expect that, though I guess it makes sense considering what the original run were going for on eBay. Purposely steered clear of the site to avoid temptation.
  6. Just use the jailbreak - no need of a cart adaptor then, an SD card will do the job. I agree about Analogue shipping - try getting something from them over to the U.K. in shipping and import charges it costs half as much again as the actual system ? great products though, got both the Super NT and the Mega SG and very happy with both. I am kind of tempted to shell out for this rerun of the NT mini, but with shipping cost and the fact I’ve already got an AVS it’s a reluctant pass.
  7. The new patch allows this now, and some other of the more famous WAD packs, as well as fixing a lot of the issues the games were plagued with on release.
  8. Funny enough I’ve done just that, sold off a load of SNES and NES carts on eBay (I’ve had my Everdrives a long time now and they were just collecting dust on the shelf, time to let em go). Got myself a Jag system with A vs P and 3 other CIB titles to get the collection started, with change to spare. I’ve emulated the Jag in the past but nothing like the real system. Yeah I would think twice before jumping down that Sega CD rabbit hole - those things are a good few years older than the PS1 and Saturn, many of them are scratched to hell and at a premium price. Touch wood I’ve never had a case of disk rot in my collection, but it is a real thing - one year after purchase you could find them unusable. There are a lot of great Shmups on the Genesis - Fire Shark is a personal favourite and it’s not too hard, the Genesis version of Raiden is passable though if you have played Jag, PC engine or arcade version it probably won’t seem great. Truxton, Steel Empire and MUSHA are all worth a go too, particularly MUSHA, though not everyone likes it - and you’ll want to be using an Everdrive for that one ?
  9. I love the Jag version of Wolf 3d - I actually appreciate the condensed levels, I think it works well for the console setting. I’ve played through all 6 episodes of the PC original, plus Spear of Destiny, multiple times, but I doubt I’d have the patience to stick with it these days, some of the maps outstay their welcome quite a bit. I feel like you could do without the extra weapons in the Jag version, the rocket launcher in particular feels very strange - no splash damage, just cuts through everything till it hits a wall. The updated graphics are awesome though. I’ve never taken the trouble to play through the entire SNES version, but the game seems to be roughly the same (minus the fact you can tell the Nazi’s from the plants on the Jag). And of course the final boss isn’t Hitler... it’s the dreaded Statemeister! Or Hitler without a tash. For some reason every boss saying “Coming for ya!” Always tickled me.
  10. Very useful, I’ve just got into the Jag. I’ve used isopropyl for ages, but I’ve ordered myself a tube of the anti oxidisation stuff from Amazon.
  11. Like you I enjoy real deal games collecting - I’ve just dived feet first into the expensive world of the Jaguar - but with the Sega CD I really thing one of the modern alternative solutions is the way to go. Ageing CD hardware does not hold up as well as cartridge based systems, nor indeed do the CD’s. There is also then the matter of cost - some of the best games on the system (and some of the awful ones) are nearly the price of 2 PS4’s it’s just crazy. I went the Mega SD route personally and can highly recommend it - I must have played through Snatcher 5 times, there are also some other amazing titles to choose from. My one complaint with the system is it’s a little light on Shmups - Robo Aleste is decent though with some frustrating bits and Keio Flying Squadron (which will cost you a remortgage of the house to get a legit copy of) is fun, though a little cutesy for me. Whatever way you choose to do it, I hope you have fun!
