  1. The white controls look really bad with the black system. I will hold out for some decent black controlers. I feel like the Colecovision is staring at me, now that it has the 128 game cart plugged into it
  2. When I got rid of all my classic systems 10 years ago, I Ebayed everything, and gave me neice my Colecovision system. Now 10 years later I am staying with family, and my neice still had the colecovision, though she said it didn't work. I tested it and it works fine, so I bought the 128 in 1 Flash cart. The only problem I have is the controls are soooo bad. You need to use super-strength to move. Has anyone fine tuned or fixed Coleco controls before? I have decided to look for a broken or untested Colecovision on Ebay real cheap, to use for replacement controls. I have all those games packed on there now, and I just get frustrated and have to turn it off. It is hopeless with these old controls!
  3. This is a hard one. As far as 2600 games, it is Activision. Off subject a little bit, I would vote for Imagic for Intellivision games. Both 2 of the best 3rd party game companies, along with Coleco and Parker Brothers.
  4. At least its better than the laughable Atari 2600 version.
  5. Most of the Coleco games for Atari are very good, and most of the Atari Silver Label era arcade ports are very good. Activision, and Parker Brothers also have a handful of really good games too.
  6. Combat gets a bad rap, but it is a very fun 2 player game. Tanks or planes, there are so many variations. I think it gets such a bad rap because you really can't play an exciting 1 player game of it.
  7. Castle Wolfenstein (all time classic) Lode Runner (all time classic) Kangaroo (great arcade & console port)
  8. The card in the first slot, is in the auxillary slot, and the following 7 slots are 1 through 7. This card should be the extended 80 column card. All you need to do is PRODOS is "CAT, S3,D2" That will list the extra 64k like a RAM DISK from basic. Slot 0 acts like slot 3, which is why you CATALOG it as slot 3, drive 2, and you can type IN#3 or PR#3 from basic to go into 80 columns. Earlier models of the Apple II traditionally used slot 3 for the 80 column cards before the Apple IIe came along, so things were kept similar for compatibility reasons.
  9. Is there anyone who hacks Sega Genesis games here, or does any hacking at all? I was very close to finishing my Sega Genesis 2007 rom last year, and a crash wiped it out. Right now I have the roms with all the teams and uniforms done. Ratings partially done, and a hacking guide for the Madden(91) rom. I am very sick, and do not know if I will ever finish this project. I have done CFL, and NCAA Madden roms in the past. They are available for download on my old webste Classic Genesis Sports http://www.geocities.com/madden91sports/ If anyone has any interest, or questions, please let me know. I will be trying to finish this rom, but I don't know if I will get there in the end. :^/
  10. In the end its the same sad story. The most boring, personalitieless computers won. The IBM PC clones! Yuck! At least Apple is still around. I really wish we still had Amigas and Ataris, and a descendant of the Apple II around. I have an Apple IIc coming in the mail, which I got for like 30 dollars shipped (which is pretty good), off of Ebay. I am probably going to sit it on my computer table next to my Atari 800
  11. GEOS is not a pre-16 bit era, pre-1985 8 bit operating system. It was released on a write-protected 5.25 disk, and you could not boot it from any other source.
  12. There were many computers that were marketed as game systems, but very few game systems, that had add on keyboards, and the ability to save programs that you wrote yourself..
  13. Imagine if the Atari 400/800's had been built like the Apple II's, with slots for expansion. Just imagine the possibilities.
  14. Which video game systems had computers built around them? And which were the best? Atari 2600 - computer keyboard and basic language cartridge Intellivision - ECS computer system with keyboard, save and loading of programs on tape cassettes Colecovision - Adam expansion module and computer The Atari 5200 was a result of the reverse, computer to game system, and the Atari XE game system, was an XE computer pushed as a game system. The Odysey^2 had a built in keyboard. The Adam had a lot of potential, especially if it had been designed better (power supply in a printer???).
  15. Wizard of Wor is really fun with 2 players, trying to kill your buddie
  16. The Atari 2600 version of Zaxxon looks really bad, but its fun. The Intellivision version is like a pure port of the Atari 2600 version, which is really funny. Zaxxon is one of the all time classics.
  17. GEOS was released in the Amiga era, and although it looks nice, there is no reason to run a desktop gui on a system that boots from a 5.25 inch drive.
  18. What would be the best 8 bit operating sytem, or the best that you have used, that being pre-16 bit era, before 1985? I think Apple's ProDos is the best I have used, with support for 3.5 inch disk drives, and hard drives, and directories and overall ease of use. With Apple ProDos, and even older DOS 3.3, you can type "LOAD PROGRAM", or "SAVE PROGRAM", and other simple commands to save and load, and to list directory contents. Of all the other operating systems I used back in the day, Apple seemed to be the easiest to use.
  19. The 800xl's are sharp looking. I used to think the 400/800 looked like ancient peices of junk, but now 25 years later, they do have a nostalgic classic look. I have me a nice little Atari 800 machine now to play with. I think Apple's and Atari's have the most personality, out of all the late 70's/early 80's computers.
  20. Has anyone had any luck playing game images of a TRS80 Color Computer on one of the emulators? As much flack as those computers take, there were some fun games for them. My friend had one and had this kick ass game called Downland, sort of like Donkey Kong, but underground in caves. Another friend of mine ended up buying a Coco just for Downland. He bought just the CPU/keyboard, joysticks and the game cart, and no disk drive, haha. I would love to play this game, and some others on emulation.
  21. Mac OS 7.5x will be the best OS for that computer. OS 7.6 is way too buggy. I believe an Apple IIe PDS card will work with that computer, just make sure you get the software and y-adapter cable. With that, your little Mac will be like a little Apple II computer.
  22. Colecovision was the best pre-NES console out there, and I even liked Colecovision better than NES when it came out, mostly because the early 80's was just a better era of arcade games. The majority of Colecovision's catalog seems to be good arcade games, which is another reason it was my favorite system. The games are very, very arcade like. I was an Intellivison guy, and my friends had 2600's and one a 5200, and we all drooled over Colecovision in the old days.
  23. What is the best way to hook up an Atari 800 to a television set (or monitor), to get the best picture possible? And what options are available?
  24. My 21" ViewSonic CRT monitor seems to have finally died. I bought it in 2003, refurbished in super condition for 150 + 50 shipping in about 2003, off of Ebay. This was the best monitor for gaming, and emulation. I have a 19" flat screen monitor, which is very nice, but the CRT monitor displays such a bright and crisp picture. The worst problem I noticed with the flat screen monitors, is that there is a very slight delay during gaming. The only time that bothered me was during our Sega Genesis NHL online leagues. So I always used the 21" for netplay. At this point, I don't think I will replace the CRT monitor, because I have been too sick to play or host any Genesis leagues. Otherwise the 19" flat screen is decent enough for most gaming and emulation. What do you guys prefer for Classic gaming/emulation? Flat screen, or CRT monitors?
  25. The Colecovision is by far the best, and apparently Parker Brothers thought that too, if you look at the ad for the game, they use the Colecovision version as the example. The Atari 2600 version is also very good. All of the versions are pretty good. The game is just a very good concept. As far as Ebay, I auctioned a MIB SMS version 10 years ago, and the deadbeat never paid for it, so I still have it, put away.
