1. So how much do these games cost to download in real terms?

400 points is about $5 US.

So far, it seems games like this are priced at 400 or 800. All the Coin-Op games on Arcade are 400 points except for Ultimate MK 3 which is 800.

If I remember correctly, Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting was also 800.

How would you play warlords on an X-box controller?!

I think the analog triggers would do just fine. :D

  2. I know, it's been a while, but I had a lot of things to catch up on in real life. Anyways, with all that cleared, I should note that Atari has finally jumped on the Xbox Live Arcade bandwagon.

No Cartridges or Quarters Needed! Atari Classics and More Coming to Xbox Live. Arcade

In addition to its robust classic arcade roster, Microsoft also delivers a great mix of original development and independent game titles to Xbox Live members this holiday season and into the New Year

Today, as part of the Xbox 360 showcase event, Microsoft provided a preview of some of its holiday and early 2007 line-up for Xbox Live Arcade, the premiere destination for downloadable games. Centipedes, Asteroids and Missiles will be among the many gaming icons to visit gamers' homes next year, as Microsoft and Atari, Inc. announced the future arrival of some of the most beloved classic coin-op games on Xbox Live Arcade.

Beginning in January 2007, Atari will release six titles on Xbox Live Arcade throughout the year. Both classic and evolved versions will be available for each of the following titles:

Centipede./Millipede.: defend your village against an onslaught of centipedes, spiders, army ants and more. In addition to the classic mode, the evolution mode offers high definition graphics and special effects like motion blur, trails and particle-based explosions to make the experience as enjoyable today as it was decades ago.

Battlezone.: the original tank vs. tank action classic has received an Xbox Live overhaul, adding in exciting new multiplayer modes including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag. This updated version is truly a must-have for any fan of the original, which is also included. Additionally, players can use the Xbox Live Vision camera to watch live video of their opponents. Combine these features with new special effects for weapon firing, impacts and explosions and you have one killer classic as you've never experienced it before.

Asteroids./Asteroids Deluxe: rotate, thrust, flip, fire and jump to hyperspace as you blast oncoming asteroids to smithereens just like in the 1979 original, but in updated, beautifully rendered, high definition graphics that complement the classic original.

Missile Command: protecting your city from alien missile attacks has never looked better now that this classic has been overhauled with updated graphics and 3D rendered vistas. Choose from the evolved mode or the timeless original gameplay.

Tempest: clear a web of enemies before time runs out and advance to the next stage, using an arsenal of weapons at your disposal. This evolved version features a graphics overhaul while maintaining the same addictive gameplay of the original.

Warlords.: a multiplayer classic that resurrects the competitive spirit of arcade games from years gone by. Knock out the other kings in their castles while keeping yourself protected at the same time. Up to four players can join the action with the game taking control of any vacant castles allowing for a variety of single- or multiplayer experiences. Gamers can also import their own pictures to their castles for an extra personalization.

Playing these Atari favorites on Xbox Live Arcade provides gamers with a next-generation experience found nowhere else. All Atari games for Xbox Live Arcade feature high definition graphics with enhanced sound effects, full online leaderboard support, TrueSkill matchmaking for multiplayer games and feature a variety of Achievements. Gamers also have the option to play the original arcade versions of these classic titles.

With our already diverse library of retro classics, original development and indie games, plus a host of new games hitting our service in the upcoming months, it's never been more fun to play on Xbox Live Arcade, said Greg Canessa, group manager of Xbox Live Arcade. The Atari Classics in particular will provide an incredible gaming experience for our community and I personally can't wait until everyone can play these updated versions for themselves.

Years ago, we couldn't even have imagined how gorgeous the classic games from 25 years ago would look with high definition graphics, but Xbox 360 has allowed us to make that leap, said Chris Bergstresser, Senior Vice President, Atari Networks. Enhanced with leaderboards, achievements and multiplayer support, these classic franchises are brought to a whole new level - offering gamers an experience like they've never had before.

So, Centipede and Millipede in one pack, Asteriods and Asteriods Deluxe in one pack as well, Live Vision support and Live multiplayer for Warlords and Battlezone, and upgraded graphics. If the evolved mode in Tempest looks and plays like Tempest 2000, or at least has custom soundtrack support, I'll be in heaven. :lust:

  3. ... a ping pong simulator. Laugh it up all you want, but from the way Sam Houser described the game to IGN, I'm intrigued, to say the least.

At $30, I'd buy it hands down, but at $40... I'll wait for a few reviews first. It shouldn't be too long, though: Rockstar says that it's almost done and they even have a temporary release date: May 22nd, 2006. Let's hope it's good. :ponder:

  4. CNN: Atari Creeps Closer To Death Excellent article!
"I think [selling studios] is not the right move," said Michael Pachter, an analyst with Wedbush Morgan Securities. "The first thing the company should do is shut down everything in Europe. Bruno (Bonnell) is out to lunch. ... The guys in the U.S. make games. The guys in Europe just sell them."

. . .Atari would be unlikely to find any serious bidders. "Nobody comes in to bid on that," said Pachter. "They wait for the body to stop twitching, then swoop down and pick the meat off the carcass."

"The reason Atari can't succeed is because they have an obscene relationship with Infogrames," he said. "Infogrames, as Atari dwindles, will go bankrupt. Once Infogrames is out of the picture, I believe someone will step up to fund Atari."

Rule #1 of the video game business: Don't take anything Michael Pacter says seriously. He knows the business side, yes, but he doesn't know anything about video games.:ponder:

  5. I'm borrowing Ridge Racer 6 -- it's very pretty. Pretty BLAND. I'll try to get on tonight, though!

I made a little website for everyone's gamercard, please check it out:

I take it you're one of those people who thought it was going to be at least realistic. If RR6 flops, and the PS3 gets all the Soul Calibur and Tekken love while the 360 gets all the Gumby shovelware, you have nobody to blame but yourself. :ponder:

    Nice website, btw.

  6. I think it's a great idea.  Every console needs a killer app at launch, and this could be a good one for the Revolution:

    Xbox had Halo.

    N64 had Super Mario 64.

PSOne had Ridge Racer and Toshinden.

    PSTwo had Tekken and Madden.

Nintendo consoles have always had Mario games (except Gamecube, which had nothing really...Luigi's Mansion doesn't count.)

Xbox 360 has...well...uh...Xbox Live?  I don't know...(Perfect Dark Zero should have been it, but it didn't turn out so well, and Kameo is mediocre.  Maybe Project Gotham 3?)

    988596

You forgot Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. :P

  7. Flojomojo, I should tell you that I changed my gamertag. It's now tifosiotaku (tifosi as in the stereotypical Ferrari F1 fan, otaku as in the stereotypical anime fan). Someone here should like my gamercard image... :ponder:

  8. Tonight I got to deliver a pizza to some guys camping out overnight outside a bestbuy so they could get a 360 in the morning. There were three tents with about a half dozen people I saw. Keep in mind I am in Minnesota and the overnight temp will be 0 or lower.

What I wanna know is what 360 game do people want that bad. I usually buy consoles at launch and have even went to the store at midnight for a couple but I don't see any 360 games that I want. Kameo is the only one I would get and it doesn't get me that excited even.  Are people just getting wrapped up in the hype maybe ?

Project Gotham Racing 3. Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. 'Nuff said. :lust:

Jess Ragan- I like Ridge Racer 6. Great, dumb arcade fun. I hope enough people buy this so Namco can give the 360 some Soul Calibur love... :ponder:

I like Namco, and I do hope the system gets some more games from them, but I really hope it's not due to Ridge Racer sales. I am so sick of that game, they keep shoving it out on every system but never really improve the gameplay or the variety of tracks. It's getting really boring. They really should have tried to give them a better launch title.

    987325

Namco wants to move 500,000 copies of RR6 in Japan. I fear that if they don't come close to that number, the 360 is going to be doomed to a lifetime of Namco Museum/Gumby/Snoopy/Pac-Man World shovelware... :ponder:

  9. There was debates about Nintendo 64 when they went with cart's and not CD's.. As to HDTV, by the time I have one there will be a "PS4" or Nintendo "Revolution 2"...

    981362

Yeah, and the decision by Nintendo to forego optical media for the N64 is cited as the reason why Square left for the greener pastures of the PlayStation. Didn't cost Nintendo much at first, but when Final Fantasy 7 became a massive hit, it came back to bite them in the ass. The beginning of the end... :ponder:

    986795

I can now never take your opinion seriously again, not because of what you said here but because you have an avatar from Evangleion. I brushed off naruto but this is just to much.

    986815

What, does Rei Ayanami creep you out or something? :ponder:

JB- Yeah, Enix had something to do with it, as you mentioned, but I still think it was when FF7 took off that Nintendo saw the writing on the wall , and saw their power slip away. You'd think that they would have learned not to make such a dumb mistake again, but noooo. No online games aside from PSO on the GameCube may not have hurt Nintendo at first, but once Xbox Live took off, it came back to bite Nintendo in the ass. No HD support for the Rev might not hurt Nintendo at first, but once more and more HDTV's are purchased and used, it might come back to bite Nintendo in the ass. Notice a theme here? It's what ruined Atari: bad cases of judgement buried them, and it might bury Nintendo.
