1. It will only be a dream, apparently only 3d is the way to go. I'd be extremely suprised if a 2d fighter gets created nowadays. 981794 SNK Playmore's still alive and cranking out 2D fighters (have you seen their latest Samurai Showdown title?) and Arc System Works just made a 2D fighter based on the Fist of the North Star manga, so it's not far out there...
2. This is the sort of thinking that killed many a video game publisher, no? You adapt or you die, and if Nintendo wants to die, so be it. Only the Nintendorks would miss them.
3. A 2D Naruto fighter. I'm not kidding. I'm a sucker for great-playing 2D fighters. I'm also a Narutard. Put two-and-two together there... I don't want some lame-o 3D fighter, or some 2D-3D hybrid. I just want Street Fighter III: Third Strike- but with Naruto characters. It would be the greatest thing since ramen, I tell ya! Make it 2D, with hand-drawn graphics straight from the anime (I'd think the Xbox 360 or PS3 would be capable of doing just that), a six-button Street Fighter style control scheme, and all the SFIII and Guilty Gear mechanics that made those games so great: parries, Roman cancels, super finishers (but I'd make the super finishers more like the fatalities from Mortal Kombat), stuff like that. Throw in a roster of 40 characters from the series, and add in online play and tag-team fighting, and it would be a success. Great idea, huh?
4. True, but I can't see the Revolution making any money for Nintendo, and it's probably going to end up hemorrhaging cash from Nintendo so fast that your head will spin. Iwata-bozo is going to be to Nintendo what Jack Tramiel was to Atari- he's going to take a well-respected video game company and run it into the ground. You can quote me on that. 981730 Wait a minute - so you're saying that Nintendo is going to be hemoraging cash when the 360 is losing like $200/console for Microsoft? I really don't get people's blind arguments that Nintendo is going to go out of business this generation... Microsoft had, in most minds, a poor 360 launch in terms of games, the Rare games weren't as good as expected, PGR3 and Call of Duty 2 were really the only 2 must buy games in most gamer's minds, and only one of them was a Microsoft game. So, Microsoft's initial sales to most gamers results in a loss for Microsoft, something they have been doing since the original Xbox. Microsoft does have a few good franchises (Halo, PGR), but alot of their sales are 3rd party (Madden, DOA) Nintendo makes a profit off their systems AND is pretty much guaranteed to be the majority of the software sales for that system. There is really no way they can fail with that business model - except for VASTLY overproducing systems to the point that they have millions of leftovers and I really don't see that happening, they would at least still sell well within the Japanese market. You need to look at this objectively - if the Revolution fails, Nintendo will certainly live to fight another battle (much more easily than Sony or Microsoft if their console were to tank). 981756 Oh, great, you're bringing up the Xbox again? Microsoft didn't put all their eggs in one basket. If the Xbox 360 fails (highly unlikely), MS still has other revenur-generating ventures. Nintendo is first and foremost a video game company. A few dumb mistakes and they're goners. You'd better get used to the idea of Nintendo going third-party: if it can happen to the once-mighty Sega, it can happen to Nintendo.
6. I don't know if nintendo is making the best choices but they are trying to be sure. If they weren't trying they would so the same thing they did this gen only make it look better. The fact they are taking such risks dealing with the controller shows me they are trying. Zelda on the 360? That's just plain being stupid. The only reason nintendo isn't using HD has to be to cut the price of thr revolution. Maybe in a few years when they think it's cheap enough to use the revolution will have it. How much would it actually cost to make the system use HD any way? Is it a drastic change? 980657 If Nintendo goes third party within five years, don't say I didn't tell you so.
7. This is just Nintendo's way of saying that they aren't even trying next time around. Zelda on the Xbox 360? Better get used to that idea. The Revolution will bomb so hard it's going to make the Jaguar look like an unmitiaged success. Saying otherwise is just being disillusional.
8. I actually bought Rez for about $20 a few years back. True, I had to use $10 in trade-in credit at Gamestop, and I had to drive 70 miles both ways, in the sleet, snow and mud, up a steep grade (okay, I'm kidding... only the 70 miles part was true... ), but I got it cheap.
9. Kotaku reported that Atari founder Nolan Bushnell was at the Digital Interactive Entertainment Confrence (the Japanese equivilant of the Game Developers Conference) to make a speech, and judging from the quotes Kotaku mentioned, Bushnell appears to be a big fan of the Revolution controller. Read them here... http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/diec-2005/die...endo-140629.php Considering how simple early Atari games were in the mid-'70s, and how simple 2600 games controlled with a joystick and a single button, I'm not suprised Bushnell favors what Nintendo's taking a risk on. In related news, Bushnell was suprised to learn that the algorithims for the ghosts in the original arcade release of Pac-Man were only random with Clyde, the orange one. http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/diec-2005/die...know-140641.php
10. I'm a little desperate to get one before the end of the year, but I'm not THAT desperate.
11. I'll answer my own question, better than what Toys R Us has: Wal-Mart Price good from November 25-December 1, 2005 Special Buy $20 Ms. Pac-Man 2-Pack Plug 'n Play TV Games Includes 1 controller, 2 gamekeys, for a total of 10 games One Time Offer. NAMCO MS. PAC-MAN SUPER VALUE GAMEKEY MEGA PACK Controller features: MS. PAC-MAN POLE POSITION MAPPY GALAGA XEVIOUS Orange gamekey features: DIG DUG NEW RALLY-X Black gamekey features: PAC-MAN RALLY-X BOSTONIAN Bosconian has voice synthesis and Pac-Man is finally complete with arcade sound, however, I do wonder why they decided to include 2 Rally-X games over Galaxian! Signed, Rick Vendl II 972214 I don't know, man, probably because Galaga has better gameplay than the archaic Galaxian? So, how's the joystick on the new version? Can it switch between 4 way and 8 way, like the wireless one?
12. How much of your money are they holding? 969530 None. I used trade-in credit.
13. I, unfortunately, won't be able to get my 360 tomorrow. I'm not on the first shipment. I'm not even on the second shipment.
14. I can also confirm that Robotron and Smash TV will have Live multiplayer, too. Also, everyone should play Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. It's a mix of Robotron and Asteroids with kick-ass gameplay and psychedelic graphics. It's hard as hell, but it's also fun. http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3145642&did=1
15. I have: Flashback 2 (I think it's safe to say that the Flashback 2 is the bar by which other plug-and-plays are judged by. ) EA Sports 2-in-1 1 player (not bad, but I regret not getting the 2-player one) Mortal Kombat (the graphics are different, but the gameplay is arcade perfect) Radica Space Invaders (not bad, but Qix is nearly unplayable, IMHO) Konami Arcade Advanced (not bad, but not great, either. All of the games are playable, though) Frogger (I don't know why I have this one, since Arcade Advanced also has this game. I'll probably give it to someone for Christmas) I worked on the game, whaddaya wanna know? Aside from opinions of course. It's got five games on it, all original, no classics - a kinda-Time Pilot game taking place in the opening battle over Coruscant, a kinda Smash TV game trying to rescue Palpatine, a kinda spy hunter game trying to chase down General Grievous, a kinda Choplifter/strategy game (generic clones vs droids), and a space invaders/breakout mix. The first gamekey adds a 2D platformer (play as Yoda trying to reach his spaceship and escape) and a "Sabotage" clone (you control a gun turret shooting at droids being dropped down and the dropships dropping them). I will give one piece of advice: if you can find one, get this: Jakks Starwars with Gamekey That's the only sign we've seen of any of the Star Wars Gamekeys anywhere, and it comes packaged with it (and an AC adapter, apparently - the older versions are battery-powered only). Also, chances are that build of the base games has a few bugs fixed. If you can't get one with the Gamekey, at least get the one that says "Gamekey Compatible!" on the package, as the other one doesn't even have a key slot. The Gamekey games, BTW, are generally higher quality, because we had more cart-space and dev time for each game than the base 5-in-1. 960750 Hey, if it's possible, can you put in a request to make as many games possible from the Namco Museum series available for the Gamekey Ms. Pac-Man? I'd love to see a lot of old-school Namco titles available.
16. If you're on the fence about the Xbox 360, here's an interview regarding the Live Arcade feature. http://www.gamedaily.com/general/xbox360hu...&article_id=810 And the Live Arcade versions of Gauntlet and Joust are going to have Live multiplayer!
17. Here's the reason why you should care about the 360: http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3145713
18. The only accessory I'm going to get with my 360 is the remote. The remote with the $399 pack doesn't have any TV functions.
19. Dang. No Soul Calibur 2, no Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, none of the Neo Geo games... At least House of the Dead 3 works...
20. My version has the Atari version, so I wouldn't get your hopes up...
21. JAKKS Pacific introduces the GAMEKEY expansion pack, the new next-generation innovation for its award-winning plug-it-in and play TV Games product line. GAMEKEY expansion pack offers users the opportunity to add extra games made specifically for their favorite TV Games controllers. TV Games GAMEKEY products will be available on retail shelves starting in the fall of 2005. JAKKS Pacific expects to launch the GAMEKEY expansion pack first in North America this Fall. GAMEKEY expansion packs will add additional games to TV Game units, and will cost significantly less than the price of a TV Games controller. 961915 Well, it was a good thing that I held off on buying the Ms. Pac-Man stick...
22. It appears that I have the Atari Millipede AND Quantum voice on mine. Odd...
23. I got a Flashback 2 at a local Best Buy a few hours back. I'm only typing this now because I was busy playing it. It's surreal to play video games that are older than I am (for some perspective, I was born in 1985... ) on a 50 inch widescreen TV. I was just checking the games out, but I did go into Quadrun, and that game has the voice effects, so it looks like I got the version B revision. Next up: testing the Flashback 2 joysticks on an original 4-switch 2600 a friend of mine has.
24. Baby Pac-Man isn't likely to happen for the same reason Gorf isn't likely to happen. It's a Midway game built with Namco trademarks. Ms. Pac-Man has survived only because Midway opted to give Namco full rights to it. 957328 And this is why such partnerships are bad, people. Midway and Namco join forces to make two games: Gorf, and Baby Pac-Man. Now the two have parted company, and neither can make these games without dealing with the other owner. As the old curse goes, "May you have partners." And the curse takes effect here. And, shannon, what I was getting at is that Namco only considers Galaga, Galaxian, and (this time) Galaga '88 marketable. Why not put a chain of sequels on one disc, like Capcom did with their SF series? (Granted, it leaves out three or four of them, but it does include different incarnations of the characters!) What I want is a disc that caters to a company's history or the history of a series from a company, not merely some "put the popular games on a disc" game disc. Seriously, Namco is getting quite silly with this. How many times are they going to release the same handful of games on retro game discs? At this rate, Namco will be looking up landfills in New Mexico to place all the unsold "new compilation" Pac-Man/Galaga/Galaxian/Ms. Pac-Man discs! Sheesh, is it too much to ask for Namco to make compilation discs consisting of games they haven't released half-a-dozen times already? That's all I'm saying. 957486 Well, those compilation discs keep selling, and that's why Namco keeps doing this. It will only change if Namco gets enough fan demand- and fan demand is why I suspect Rolling Thunder and Galaga '88 made the cut in the 50th Anniversary disc. My dream Namco compilation is if they put all the games they made from 1979-1990, plus the arranged versions that made it onto the Namco Museum PS2 disc (along with the arranged versions of Xevious, Mappy and Rally-X that were also released in the mid-'90s ) all on one disc. Either that or make all of the games from that time period available on Xbox Live 360 Arcade with a-la-carte pricing. That would be great, too.
25. Yeah, it kinda stinks that the FB2 is the only bit of good news to come from Atari last quarter, and they're hemorrhaging (sp?) cash, but the FB2 doing well out of the gate is sunshine on a rainy day...
