    Ask Lotharek what he used to measure it. Perhaps he used his face. It seems to me that I suggested the world is spherical and now that it turns out that it's round, you're wondering where I got my evidence from.

     

    i use cheap trorec bp21.temp measured of 65c02 with Rapidus are average 8 degrees higher and rounds 45 degrees, surr temp was 23. Supply voltage 5.26V to atari PCB. At Rapidus 0,2 lower. will prepare tommorow measuring results with photos

    Anyway: end of off-topic and I apologise for using trigger words like "corroborating" and "ridicule" in the same paragraph.

     

     

    Excellent. That's three things to try (pullups on A8-A15, pulldown on LS08, and pulldown on 02). :)

     

    puldown ls38 pin 1 = pulldown o2, but in different place

    would start from that without others mods.

    Getlemen, please... we have problem to solve and i think is hardware related not personal

     

    ps. i think Pasiu mentioned about pull down of o2 signal once here..sorry, didn`t take care faster and hope it solves all issues (even on buggy 800xl F)

    Yep: I discovered CF card issues on my 600XL and 800XL (both without Rapidus), and fixed both by replacing LS08 (although I recommend a simple like-for-like swap, i.e. another LS08). The fix is equally valid when Rapidus is present, and can improve stability regardless of the presence of SIDE2.

     

    f08 is quite faster and give more juice to cart slot, when buffering o2 signal from cpu. speed - doesnt matter of course here, but overall is better ;-)

    i think, when temp goes high; o2 signal gets some disturbance. anyway, i stat to believe it is not cpu-related problem, but general trash on atari data lines or production quality differcence between factories or.. whats the worst: TIME

     

    anyway; on my test 65xe machine : i have tested all cpus i have for last two weeks and except higher temp than usual; no porblems with rapidus. Even once has not progress bar hung up.

     

    PS. no pullup on data; no other mods. pure pcb with with vbxe, ultimate, stereo..

    ps. very interesting effects gives pull down of o2 signal at ls08 pin 1 -- 3k -- gnd

     

    in simple word : solder resistor of 3kom betwen first and last bottom pin of ls08

    test please and report

     

    ps. by the way, it is quite good to replace it witg f08 ;-)

     

    why ? in most recent FJCs SIDE firmware problems may appear with cf recognition ;-)

    I have noticed, that some cpus - like FJC said- are overheating

     

    for last 3-4 months (after FJS`s hammering ;-) ) i test all cpus / atari i have around me...and all that led me to conclusion:

     

    MEXICO CPU ...works at first boot;after few minutes of work and manual restart: rapidus core loading bar stops..

    NCR - best ones ! no problems with hangs during boot. no problems at all.

     

    others...hmmm.. in between ;-)

     

    what is also interesting, less problematic machines are... 800XL withou freddy chip; with those, mexico cpu works flawlessly

     

    tested: approx 10 cpus, 10 ataris in every combinations. took few months but... if You have xe machine - go for NCR, if You have xl machine, go for ncr in case of problems.

    OK, some new results:

    • The SIO2USB seems to be OK -- I've wired data in and data out and I could see what I type in Putty (with echo off, of course)
    • Tried to measure some signals: +5V = 5V, Command = 5V, Data out = 2.4V! Couldn't this be the culprit? For instance that one of the resistors has gone bad?
    • I've got second POKEY but I haven't done anything with it yet (most importantly: socket) I guess I'm going to do that, I can reuse it in another Atari in the worst case
    • Tried to test the PIA -- both joysticks, all directions, fire buttons, ... seems fine

    So what? Could that be as simple as a faulty resistor? Don't think so. ;-)

    swap pokeys and report please

    if orginal is faulty, you can use it as second at stereo

    If this would be a "command line" issue only, PUTTY still would show data coming from ATARI and RespeQt would work with Handshake set to NONE or SOFTWARE.

    Do you have another ATARI to test?

     

    so we have sio2pc or sio commands line issue (POKEY, which Miro has new one from me also...)

    joysticks are also connected to pia but also to gtia (fire signals) - sorry it is to late - i`m writing from my memory...

     

    so...if PIA (6520 - DO NOT MISTAKE WITH 6502) makes problems, it also may be ls38 chip , that decodes address other specialised chips.

     

    sorry, Your problem is much more complicated it may look at first glance.

     

    i would go first first for PIA change - but tat is my experience - best from confirmed working atari.

     

    then i would dig deppper..

     

     

    EDIT: ASPEQT is really cool software. it shows command line status. You have right com assigned, connections established but....as You said...during boot you hear only "prrrrrrrr" sound but NO COMMAND LINE RESPONSE.

    two issues:

     

    • please, be honest with delivery time - words written stays online forever and You know the situation was diffrent
    • PIA CHIP needs replacment - no command signal at all

     

    read/write signals come from POKEY CHIP ONLY. if You use tape recorder You will be able only to test POKEY CHIP.

     

    sio2sd, sio2pc, disk drive etc use also command line that is ONLY "generated" by PIA

     

    in Your case, i see no commands pending.

     

    as i`m fully aware of my device funcionality, please test it first on other computer (easiest method)

     

     

    if doesn`t work - let me know

     

    if works - get PIA CHIP and replace it.

     

    POKEY You already have, but .... chance pokey is f...ed is rather small.

    Obviously, Simius' 65816 + 4 MB + 8 OS upgrade projected at less than 1/2 the price will make a tempting alternative. From my experiences, the 65816 + linear ram is the more important part of this. 8 OS -- that is just (great) gravy! In the long-run, Rapidus higher clock speed may prove more useful, especially if there are some "killer apps" written that need the speed. Right now -- not so much (IMO).

    Hiass, of course i agree with You, but it is not the place to delibarate of the purpose.

    uswitch can also be switched from AKI , so present design compromises both steering logic.

    also, left without any input, toggles stereo on.

     

    honestly, there are millons of circuits around us, and i presume NONE is even close to perfect design theory

     

     

    anywy - so far there is only ONE ( 1 piece) of uswitch doesn`t work around world reported among hundreds made and delivered..

    Guys, RELAX !

     

    IT DOESN`T MATTER the chip type... hct, fo4, ls04..... AT ALL - really...

     

    what is matter is LOW logic state that comes from ULTIMATE as BIN (ary) input is pulled high to 5V by 4k7

     

    so ultimate makes hc04 input low as it is always HIGH :)

     

     

     

    i can only presume 2 problems : faulty one ( shall i send other ??) or f....ed atari at some point / generally or after mods/

    After many years of development , RAPIDUS release time is approaching..

     

    few facts:

     

     

     

    • internal CPU turbo card for Atari XL/XE,
    • WDC 65C816 microprocessor operating at 16MHz,
    • managed by Xilinx Spartan6 FPGA and XC95XL CPLD devices,
    • 512kb or 1MB of zero waitstate SRAM,
    • up to 30.5MB of storage ram - SDRAM clocked 128MHz,
    • 512kB of Flash memory (256kB is reserved for fpga cores, 256kB for OS and New Device handler)
    • 256b of EEPROM,
    • high speed bus connector for external I/O interfaces, DMA support,
    • working modes fully software controlled
    • low power consumption due to DC/DC converters, no extra power supply required
    • simple installation: put Rapidus board in place of old 6502C and solder just 3 wires, or use Adaptus board depends on the model of your computer. In this case you don’t have to solder any wires.
    • compatible with Ultimate 1MB,

    Dear atarians,

     

    i`m writing to You to warn about potential fraud - men, wihotut honour and no respect for other man.

     

     

    I will not use his name and surname, but will give to public konwledge his mail, what is legal : [email protected]

     

     

     

    to make all my complains a short story, please judge by historical order:

     

    17.03 - [email protected] ordered ultrasatan internal version with adapater for mega st at my shop

     

    20.03 - items were posted

     

    24.03 - i got mail form [email protected] wrong adapter was sent - MY MISTAKE - I resent immedietally MEGA ST adapter as MEGAS STE was sent at first time

     

     

     

    03.04 - first mail from customer : ( EASTER TIME - i simpley didn`t reply )

     

    The adapter has arrived and it works, but I still have problems:
    If I Turn Off the ST and turn on again immediately I get a blank desktop and ultra Satan does not boot.
    If my MegaFile is off, does not boot Ultra Satan and the floppy.

     

    06.04.2014 - [email protected] opened PAYPAL dispute and escalated it within few moments; my account sources have been blocked.

     

    07.04.2014 - Easter over, i`m back to work, i reply to customer. [email protected] is still saying that device doesn`t work with MEGA44, but with icd and as self alone works OK. i contacted Uwe Seimet and Jookie, in order to help and both guys confirmed this issue is common. sometimes it work, sometimes not..

     

    so, being customer friendly i proposed full refund, after device sent back to me...

     

     

    and this moment comedy starts:

     

    • [email protected] wants money back - refund before postage back
    • I said this is not possible and now i cannot refund him, as i do not have his money - blocked by PAYPAL
    • [email protected] send the parcel back and uses HERMES german serivice
    • parcel arrives today - EMPTY ! No usatan device inside, ONLY MEGA STE adapter, sent by mistake at initial postage

     

    So, I have received today parcel of weight 0,05 kg. I have contacted HERMES and DPD (polish representative of HERMES) - they have confirmed that parcel was sent of weight 0,05 kg.

     

    I made experiment - parcel with ustatan and adpater shall weigjt 0,135 - 0,150 kg.

     

     

     

    CONCLUSION :

     

    • i have lost trust to people
    • i have lost money
    • i have lost so much time of my life because of stress

     

     

    This is the warning, from [email protected] !

     

    be carefull - he is now selling some stuff - atari related, also he runs computer service in Germany...

    I recommend the syscheck cart to all all soldering iron junkies ;-)

     

    i have had few problamitc pcbs, now 2 of them works :-) and one - nevertheless cart shows up after power on - still doesn`t

     

    i can assume that cpu/ram/rom/ antic/gtia/mmu/clock works ok, so i can dig out in diskrete components.

     

    still black screen - geee....how much i love this.,

     

    ps. most funny - atari with cart with all dip switchess off - starts ;-)

    ps2 . PROBLEM SOLVED

     

    syscheck cart has the fantastic option to replace internal rom and / or ram.

     

    that helped. guilty was precise socket !!!! A8 line between Freddy and CPU.

     

     

     

    JURGEN, You ROCK MAN ! but the question rises :

     

    Please, detach freddy PIN 16 from PCB and run TEST - syscheck will confirm memeory is OK, what cannot be true !
