  1. Yep, EU got hit with regular inflation on top of shrinkflation 😕 I took the video at its word, I had to go look at the price for the starter pack again to find out I was wrong.
  2. I don't think they expect anybody to buy these who already has a VS or who has a working EXP. I expect they have a lot of returns etc for the EXP, though.
  3. Tomb Raider never used analog controls on PlayStation. There's no point. New hardware incoming: https://evercade.co.uk/new-hardware-new-lower-price-introducing-evercade-exp-r-and-evercade-vs-r/ Cheaper price, no Capcom games, EXP-R loses HDMI out. VS is mostly the same.
  4. Went a little loopy this week. Apple iOS: Galaxy Mix - 38 min Suika Game - 21 min Atari Lynx: Loopz - 390 min Came in #2. Number 1 scored over 100000. Pac-Land - 45 min Atari VCS: Avian Knights - 15 min Cash Cow DX - 60 min LCD Handheld: Radio Shack Blast Off Pinball (original/V1) - 20 min Nintendo 64: Pilotwings 64 - 15 min Nintendo Super Nintendo Enterrainment System: Amazing Hebereke - 10 min Nintendo Switch: Another Code ReCollection - 185 min Finished Two Memories. F-Zero 99 - 15 min Whoops, missed one: Sega Genesis: Dino Land - 18 min
  5. Ahhh, that's the Songbird one then. I have the original release. I am afraid to plug it in to the adapter but maybe I will try it.
  6. Blaze announced that they are going to be releasing some cartridges with twice as much storage as the previous biggest carts, called Gigacarts. This will allow multiple PS1 games or some of the bigger recent indies. https://evercade.co.uk/introducing-giga-cart/ There will be two Gigacarts this year. They will be slightly more expensive, at £22.49/$24.99/€24.99. (US Evercaders get the best deal here and UK gets the worst.)
  7. I like 1 best and 3 second. The Lynx deserves this on a physical cart.
  8. This seems sketchy unless it's Albert or Carl or Fadest or somebody else reputable.
  9. Which release of Alpine Games? Maybe they're all the same but maybe not.
  10. Another Code ReCollection How it started: How it's going:
  11. You can jump on the logs while they're falling! I haven't recalled how to get past the springboards yet, though. I can almost make it at top speed but always fall short. 40260 Note that I literally only got one screen past you, @Ninjabba - maximizing bonuses is critical!
  12. Block Out and Ishido are two of my favorite puzzle games ever, and two of my top 20 of the system. Ishido is probably in the top 10. Steel Talons has a terrible framerate, but I have no problem feeling like I am in control. It's the lack of feeling of control in Hard Drivin' that makes it not much fun for me. But not bottom five.
  13. 37170! Getting close to silver... If you're new to Pac-Land you might find some of the strategies helpful!
  14. The former is a much larger genre that encompasses Donkey Kong, Frogger, and so on. The latter still includes Donkey Kong, Popeye, Hustle Chumy, and so on. What I am talking about is games where you advance by eliminating all the enemies on each level and usually collect a lot of items while doing so. Come to think of it that does disqualify Chack'n Pop.
  15. Combatribes, Double Dragon 2, Block Out, Mysterious Stones, Battle Lane, Mat Mania Challenge, and Minky Monkey are all worth playing, and only Double Dragon 2 is available legally elsewhere. Mysterious Stones and Block Out in particular are all timers for me.
  16. I am informed that actual Bubble Bobble clones are called "elimination platformers". I still like bobbler better. Pang/Buster Bros feels more like an unusual shmup than a platformer but maybe that's because I don't survive long enough to get there. Chack'n Pop was another forefather of Bubble Bobble and the origin of one of BB's most fearsome enemies. The SG-1000 version is my favorite since it's the easiest and it's a really hard game. Speaking of SG-1000 C-So! is a great one (also on MSX) by the awesome Compile. Evercade relatively recently got two I had never heard of before, both from Korean developer Unico: Magic Purple is a hybrid of a bobbler and a shooter. And so is Fancy World, with the added bonus of looking like it was drawn in MSPaint: They're fun enough but because they're shooters they are less mechanically interesting than most games in the genre.
  17. There's a big new update out that adds a library section with overviews of all Evercade carts: They check off as you load them on the console. They also improved the cartridge patching process to communicate better what is happening during cart patching and some other stuff. https://evercade.co.uk/evercade-features-update-april-2024/ Plus the new Game of the Month is here: https://evercade.co.uk/evercade-game-of-the-month-2024-1-the-curse-of-illmoore-bay/
  18. Codemasters is legacy effective immediately, Technos Arcade effective June. https://evercade.co.uk/legacy-cartridge-update-spring-2024/ Get 'em if you don't already have 'em!
  19. Sure is. They are kind of messes but they have a lot of heart.
  20. I love Airball (or is it Stockholm Syndrome) on the ST. And the NES. And the GBA. But this one, while fun for a bit, loses way too much because of the muddy, rudimentary graphics. They really should have skipped it for something more suited to the system's strengths. I rated it a 7. I didn't have problems hitting the ring buttons - how do y'all hold your joysticks anyway? But the game list is so so and I fully believe there's lag. I have never played any Atari 8-bit computer before so it was fun anyway. I liked Wavy Navy a lot.
  21. According to Blaze social media, The Curse of Illmore Bay is kicking off the Game of the Month this year: I have been expecting it for a long time. One more off my expected list. In other news, apparently there are currently zero Piko carts in the pipeline beyond Console 4 according to Piko themselves. For me that's a huge bummer but I know they have their haters. They own a substantial number of computer games I would like a crack at too.
  22. I never understood it back in the day either, but it's simple enough. You have to do either one of each trick (figure skating) or three of each (free skate). Just press one of the joystick directions and press the button. Top counter-clockwise to bottom you have to face backwards, right up and right down you have to face forward. The real challenge is getting the exact timing of the spins and landing the triple lutz. Easy enough in figure skating, but really hard to pull off three times in a row. I think they're my favorite events now!
  23. Apple iOS: Pinball Breaker - 31 min Circa Infinity - 29 min Space Miner - 8 min Suika Game - 21 min Atari Lynx: Eggsavier's Cackleberry Rescue - 65 min This is the 2020 final version. Pretty sure that is the only version tracked yet. Pac-Land - 45 min Commodore 64: Winter Games - 261 minutes Commodore Amiga: Qwak! - 35 min Nintendo Entertainment System: Doodle World Redrawn - 12 min Motor Rally - 10 min Famiclone bootleg-type rudimentary racer. Not sure if it is a bootleg or homebrew. Nintendo Game Boy: The Little Tales of Alexandria - 26 min Nintendo Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Alien Cat 2 Enhanced Edition - 65 min Tiger R-Zone: Independence Day - 15 min
