  1. Since I will forget about them by the time next week rolls around, some additional gaming, particularly Virtual Boy homebrew: Arcade: Avenging Spirit - 60 min (more) Beat the arcade version too. Both really great games. Obviously the arcade game is better at being an arcade game, but I found the choices made porting it to Game Boy to be very interesting and logical. It's easier in some ways and harder in others, particularly one boss. But it's amazing how faithful they managed to stay to the original. It has to be the Game Boy game with the widest variety of playable characters, by a large large margin. Atari 2600: 3D Tic Tac Toe - 5 min Virtual Boy: Capitan Sevilla 3D - 10 min Fishbone Rumble - 20 min Hamburgers En Route to Switzerland - 10 min
  2. Yeah, Zaxxon is a killer port. Probably the best overall.
  3. Here is an overview of the palette changes: https://www.smspower.org/Development/Palette#MasterSystemMarkIII
  4. Well, SG-1000 game colors are screwed up on Game Gear and Master System unless some magic has been done...
  5. Apple iOS: Among Us - 48 min Arcade: Avenging Spirit - 173 min Discs of Tron - 35 min Don Doko Don - 15 min Saint Dragon - 15 min Atari Lynx: Bowling Beast - 12 min Captain Harlynx - 8 min Escape from the Dungeon of Deja Vu - 15 min Final Melee - 15 min Fortress Fighter - 18 min Grogger - 22 min Rainbow - 20 min Running Knight - 15 min Scooternia - 18 min Shuriken - 20 min Silly Archery - 13 min Ynxa - Leaf and the Guardians of Time - 25 min Browser: Paku Paku - 9 min GCE Vectrex: Cognitive Test Cart Rev 1 (aka Yet Another Simon) - 10 min Man - Woman - Camera - Television Galaxy Wars/Space Launcher - 25 min Gravitrex - 35 min Strike Force (And Strike) - 5 min And strike and strike and strike and strike and strike and strike and strike and strike and... Time Trail - 20 min I can't understand the map in this and it is obscenely hard as a result. 6. Somehow one of the Atari Homebrew Award nominees never got a thread of its own, and it really deserves one. If you somehow haven't yet played it it's a must-play. One of the many creative uses of the tileset chosen for LynxJam 2023, Grogger casts the set of fantasy type characters as patrons at a bar. You are the titular Grogger, dispensing flagons of grog to the ceaseless hordes of snails, pumpkinheads, adventurers, knights, and so on. It's free to play in the browser and to download, and Ganksoft (@peekb) continues to work on it, recently adding high score saving! https://ganksoft.com/products/grogger/ My only constructive criticism is that the difficulty seems to plateau after a while and then it's just a test of how long you don't make a stupid mistake. I think either the terminal speed should be faster or maybe some other element could be added to add challenge later in the game. I'm really looking forward to the finished product. The jam version is available on the anthology cart from @Igor: https://k-retro.com/homebrew-games/382-198-lynxjam-2023-same-but-different.html
  7. We'll be dropping the two or three lowest scores for each person, so don't worry about missing one or two!
  8. Given Yak's gameography I am not sure "a true original" is the right way to put it...
  9. Mine is still just a glimmer in Albert's eye...
  10. I for one would love to see an Ynxa Kart. It could also feature Karri's Wizzy, LordKraken's Red, a Microvader, an Alpine Games competitor, the player from Unnamed, a Viking, and more!
  11. I tested all of the games from the LynxJam 2023 cart and everything looks good.
  12. As always, count me in! Leaf is becoming the main mascot for the Lynx in my view
  13. Don't forget you can hide behind asteroids for protection from shots. As much as I love the "psychedelic" overlays the color differences tend to hide the brightness difference for the target UFO, so it is probably better to use a single color overlay. 30566 for me. Best score my first good game and then the more I tried to add technique the worse I did, haha.
  14. I am not sure what I did but I continued after my credits went to zero and they refilled.
  15. Cyber Core and Star Soldier? That's pretty cool. Are they in Japanese?
  16. I am very happy with it so far. It is very accurate and the Lynx+ mode usually looks great. Sometimes I have used the regular Lynx mode because the saturated colors in Lynx+ mode sometimes look off. I don't often use the Analogue mode. The way it is designed also does not risk label damage as the Game Gear module does.
  17. While this is preposterous I will say that this guy has consistently shown a drive to deliver on his commitments that extends well into the self-destructive... kinda hope he doesn't make his stretch goals, for his own sake.
  18. Quite an unusual week for me. Yes, I realize I say that every week. Arcade: Navarone - 20 min Sly Spy - 46 min It's got it all: jetpacks, sharks with laser eyes, low-rent substitutes for Jaws and Odd Job, everything! You should try it. Atari Lynx: 2048 - 5 min Captain Harlynx - 20 min Took a few tries but I beat the demo. Pit-Fighter - 110 min I played more of this in the last week than I had in my whole lifetime before. It is not a good game but it is fun and the Lynx port is a remarkable achievement. Scooternia - 30 min Very fun scrolling dodge em up! Browser: Paku Paku - 26 min Commodore 64: Lee - 90 min Beat the game once using save states and then once without, and almost got to the final gauntlet on the much harder second loop. Subterranea - 15 min Fun but exceptionally plain and basic shooter. Winter Games - 12 min Very fun set of events. Winter games were always my favorites among these minigame anthologies. GCE Vectrex: Armor Attack - 10 min Beluga Dreams - 15 min Magnavox Odyssey 2: Alien Invaders - Plus! - 15 min If you don't know this game you don't know what a proud achievement it is to score 3 against the CPU. Microsoft Xbox 360: I blew the dust off and started the engine and everything is still working great for now... 0D Beat Drop - 20 min This is one of the truly exclusive 360 games. It is also just not very good. 1942: Joint Strike - 25 min A very good remake of 1942 by Digital Eclipse. You can get the Capcom Digital Collection disc with tons of great games for $30 or buy them individually for $10-$15 each. I recommend the former. Aces of the Galaxy - 15 min I am surprised at how well this game reviewed because to me it seems deadly boring and the levels just go on and on. Maybe it gets better after the demo? Apple Jack 2 - 35 min Most of which was spent playing this one level over and over again. Asteroids Do Concern Me - 30 min A hilarious SFCave/Helicopter Game knockoff. Another lost XBLIG game. It kills me that more of the successful games of this line haven't been ported to Steam. Beat Hazard - 15 min This fantastic twin stick shooter from the long-dead Xbox Live Indie Games initiative allows you to play all of your favorite music as a shooter. It works very well, not all that differently than E4. Black Knight Sword - 20 min Remember when Microsoft was trying to succeed in Japan? Those were the days. This otherwise undistinguished hack and slash game gets a lot of mileage from that signature Suda51 Grasshopper Manufacture weirdness. It reviewed middlingly at the time but I enjoyed it a lot more than the reviewers did and still do today. I bet it would be better regarded today. Bubble Bobble Neo! - 10 min A fairly undistinguished remake of the original arcade game... except for the level packs stuffed with extra levels. Every Extend Extra Extreme - 75 min Somehow it looks much plainer than the PSP original, but still plays like a dream. One of the very best Xbox 360 games. Mattel Intellivison: Auto Racing - 11 min Steering is a real challenge in this game but I am getting there: Motocross - 10 min I am not good at any of these isometric INTV racers but I am particularly bad at this one. Mountain Madness Pro Skiing - 5 min I really like this game even if it isn't quite as fluid as Activision's Skiing. Reversi - 12 min I was happy with a draw here. Stadium Mud Buggies - 15 min Star Strike - 18 min Beat the game. With save states. I am not ashamed. NEC PC Engine/Turbografx 16: Blazing Lazers - 20 min Still an amazing game. One of the best shooters of its era, along with its siblings Zanac, Gun-Nac, and the Aleste games. Hana Taaka Daka - 20 min The cartridge adapters for my Analogue Pocket came and I am pleased to report the actual game does not suffer from the game pause bug that the PCE core does. Nintendo Entertainment System: Jim Power - 110 min By far the best version of Jim Power. Cheap deaths are still here but in much smaller quantities than on other systems, and combined with infinite continues makes you want to keep playing and playing. Nintendo Switch: Another Code ReCollection - 170 min Got to the end of chapter 2. qrth-phyl - 15 min A game name after my own heart, this is actually just Snake in 3D. qump2 - 35 min A really fun and challenging Pong exploration game. If you ever played the old Titus game Titan, this is probably what they were hoping to make. R-Type Dimensions - 60 min Made it fairly far into R-Type 1. Suika Game - 5 min It supports multiple players now! Tetris 99 - 25 min
  19. Solid bronze! There is no shame in setting boundaries, haha. Although it does get better the more you play it. Or maybe that's the Stockholm syndrome.
  20. Just the game. It's a great game but very hard for a match 3.
  21. There is a new Vectrex core for the Analogue Pocket. It's not bad.
  22. I use a VecMulti. The retail library is small and we have all played all the games for decades, and the homebrew is much more interesting and underexposed, so I would like to see a 50-50 balance. That said, maybe once a season we should play something that is only available on cartridge like the masterworks of Kristof Tuts. One thing I started doing on the Lynx HSC this year (inspired by Vector War, in fact) is that I will drop the bottom two or three scores. That way if somebody doesn't have a game it doesn't matter. I also have separate homebrew and retail tracks, but then the Lynx retail library is more than 3X larger than the Vectrex library.
