  1. Just read a review on this. It looks very funny. I think I'll try and find a copy. Thanks for the recommendation
  2. I know that you are not interested in a hundred people sending you their entire game lists, so I am sending you to two sites that I have found to be very valuable in my search for genesis games. I've been re-collecting for the past month or so (138 titles and counting) and use the following two reference sites daily: 1) The first is http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/genesis/ (www.gamefaqs.com). There, you can look up every game ever made for the Genesis platform listed in different genres (i.e RPG, Sports, Shooting, Fighting, Puzzle, etc.,) or alphabetically. Once you locate a game, you are able to read everything from player reviews, professional reviews, Cheat Codes and Secrets, FAQs & Game Info, etc., Anyway, it is a great reference site that could be more complete and organized better. Overall, it is still a MUST BOOKMARK 2) The second site has fewer reviews, but they tend to be the most popular titles, so at least you can be sure you'll be reading the reviews of games that sold well or were at least heavily marketed. This site is http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrankings/launchreview.asp?reviewid=206414 (The Video Game Critics Sega Genesis Reviews). I really like this site and usually agree with most of the reviews. What is nice is that this site looks at the little things about the games that most reviewers miss and even though the reviews are breif, it is a well-put-together collection of Genesis Reviews. As for me, I have a MS Excel File complete with about eight different listings of my games (i.e., Games alphabetically, by year released, by genre, by company, by rating, etc., If you want/need/desire to see it, let know and I'll send them via PM to you) Finally, as for my picks - by genre: Action - Comix Zone (absolutely brilliant. I've never seen a game this unique, fun and replayable. GET THIS GAME! Board Game - Monopoly Fighting - Street Fighter 2: Special Championship Edition Sports - Mutant League Football - VERY FUNNY!!! or go with Madden 97 if you want pure football Puzzle - Marble Madness RPG - Phantasy Star IV Sega Classic - Any of the Sonic the Hedgehogs As for my personal top five: Comix Zone NHL 96 Ranger X Mutant League Football PGA Tour Golf Game you should avoid - Clue - if you like the board game, stick with it because this version sucks raw eggs! Take care - marc levy aka silverpoodleman
  3. two - heavy sixer and 4-switch. I principally use the 4-switcher
  4. *********AND NOW TO BREAK OFF THE TECHNICAL TALK*********** Is it just me or anyone else NOT want to hear about this guy's woodies?
  5. I haven't read through all the posts so far in this thread so I hope I'm not recovering the same ground, but can someone suggest the best joystick/paddle to use when playing this game? The instructions that come with the game give four different options. I have everything but the footpad thing-y. So, simply, which option is the best?
  6. I AM NOT SAYING THAT NEW GAMES (OR GAME SYSTEMS) STINK. In fact, in many ways, they are leaps and bounds ahead of the old ones and are certainly more marketable. Far be it for me to tell a multi-billion dollar a year industry that they are doing it wrong. Nonetheless, my preference still remains the older ones. Having said that, in ten years time, I'll probably be playing PS2 and XBOX - AND, I will know which games Passed the test of time and are worth spening $$$ playing - AND I will spend much less of that $$$ to buy those games. If one is not concerned about staying with the times, that's a pretty good system. I do not disagree with anything else you are saying. In fact, you make some very compelling arguments and to be frank, I'm not sure that we disagree about anything. However, I do take issue & offense with someone using this forum not to make valid arguments, but to start calling people vulgar and offensive names. That is not why these forums exist and it is not the type of forum I want to be involved in. It is up to us to make sure that we keep the content as on-point and non-vulgar as possible. That is what keeps people coming back. After all, who wants to read responses littered with insults and four letter words? I much prefer the discourse we are sharing. Don't you? (or should I start calling you stupid and retarded?)
  7. Do tell why you chose to respond to such an un-interesting topic. Don't YOU have better things to do with YOUR time??? 941339[/snapback] No - No I don't.
  8. I offer my apologies to those with delicate ears for what I am about to say. It is just too difficult to leave it there with no response- "Yes, I agree. My wife feels my Wico Stick is too big and too stiff as well." (rim shot)
  9. Do you mean hurt myself because I no longer overpay for games that could be good/could be bad and only choose the ones that have stood the test of time? In a world of High Definition, wall mounted, digital satelite TV's - Bose Wave Motion Music Systems - DVD Recorders - Digital Voice Recorders - MP3 Players - DVD players in cars - resaurant-grade modern appliances - 40 gazillion gigabyte computers - blackberries - GPS watches - cell phones that take, edit, and transmit pictures & video - DVD rentals delivered in the mail - ebay and all digital movies, HOW COULD I POSSIBLY HURT MYSELF TO STICKING WITH CLASSIC GAMING? WHAT AM I MISSING OUT ON? Have you ever heard of staying grounded with the things you love? Also, my friend, telling someone that they are "retarded" simply because they make a choice different from your shows your lack of education, common sense and graciousness. It is a big world out there and there is plenty of room for people whose taste run the gamut. I'm confused why you would be so angry at those who prefer something different? I wonder if my choice to have a dog rather than a cat is retarded. Perhaps my preference of reading as opposed to watching TV is retarded. I love traditional jazz and would rather listen to Ella Fitzgerald than anyone in today's music scene. Hmmm...I wonder - is that retarded? Perhaps my desicion to get an advanced degree at an Ivy League graduate school was also retarded. After all, it's been around since 1701. Boy, that's old - so I guess, retarded, right? I guess I see your point though. By attending Yale, an "old" school, I know I missed out on lots of great experiences and only hurt myself in the long run. Perhaps I'll set my goals higher and attend the AAA Trucking School in Harrisburg, PA (http://www.aaaschooloftrucking.com/ for anyone who is interested). It was founded only eight years ago. Newer is better, right? Thank you for setting me on the right path.
  10. I've been reading these posts and wondering - WHO THE HELL CARES????????? I mean, I love Atari - I love the whole classic gaming genre. But why in the hell is this interesting? It's not like the people who were trying to find the Titanic. At best, this is a company destroying inventory. SO WHAT? A convoy of non-descript trucks? Rumors? Articles that have no actual facts? Good cheez-whiz people, aren't there better things to do with your time?

  12. I have been trying to master Solar Fox for the past couple of months. Whenever I sat down to play Atari, it was usually the first game I played. However, I never made it past rack 25 or H-E-L-I for the challenger screens. Finally, this morning I got to Rack 37 and completed the challenger screens by getting H-E-L-I-O-S. My score was 736,400, by far my best ever. My question is what happens next? Do the challenge screens keep coming? Does the game go on forever using the same twenty screens over and over? Does it get harder in that more shots are fired at you? at a faster speed? Does my ship slow down (like in Jr. Pac-Man?)? I guess I thought that once you spelled H-E-L-I-O-S, the game was over, you sent away to CBS Electrronics for the stickers and went on with your life. Apparantly, this game, like life, keeps going on even after your primary goal has been accomplished (damn! too philisophical again!). Anyone know the all-time high score on this game? Thanks to anyone who answers. I've been obsessed with this incredible game, in my opinion, the best ever on the 2600. Marc
  13. 6.34 seconds I'm not in the same league as the sub 6 seconders, but I was thrilled to beat my best. Were this contest to last a few more weeks, I'm sure I could get there. I seem to get a higher score every time I sit down and play Dragster for a period of time. Cool game!
  14. 6.37 seconds, baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who's you're daddy? I'm now consistantly getting under 7.5 seconds now. At first, I couldn't get 2 seconds in without blowing up my engine.
  15. I guess it just has to do with preference. I stopped playing video games about nine years ago and at that point I was only buying sport titles that were updated (Madden 95, NHL Kockey 96 - stuff like that). Frankly I lost interest around the time my kid was born and kinda tucked the Sega Genesis into a box and into the storage room. *****WARNING: THIS IS A LONG RESPONSE - MY APOLOGIES********* A few months ago, I read something on-line about classic gaming and thought that it would be cool to buy another 2600 and a few games. I had no idea how much my family would love the atari. When we have guests over, we always wind up down the basement in front of the atari and it is the hit of the party. Most of our friends are in the 37 -50 year old range and fondly remember the atari. It brings back good memories, when life's responsibilities included cleaning your room, finishing your plate because there are starving people in China, riding bikes and playing little league. After I broke out the Sega again, I realized how much fun it is. TO ANSWER your question - why not keep up to date with the latest games? They simply hold no interest to me at this point. I know the graphics are great and in some cases the playability might be better, but if they do not impress me or leave me feeling good, it would be a pretty empty experience. Now, I have a few experiences on PS2 and Xbox with my nephews and I was way less than impressed. It seemed either the games are way too graphic (sex, rape, murder - why the hell is my 10-year old nephew allowed to play Grand Theft Auto?????), too pointless (Tony Hawk is skating around -whoop-de-friggin'-do!!!), or too much (PS2 was hooked up to surround sound and you could hear tires squealing and gunshots throughout the entire house). Persomally, I just want to play a game of baseball and keep track of the stats. I do not want to manage a salary cap, trades, injuries, etc., SO WHY DON'T I RENT? to be honest, I never looked into it. But I already have close to 400 titles between atari and genesis plus I've got loads hacks, emulations and other things to keep me busy. I'd rather play those now and when I'm ready to research the later games, perhaps I'll do that. Then, we will know which games are great and which ones did not stand the test of time, plus they will be less than $5 a game. Last comment here and sorry for the extreme length of this response. I am a movie fanatic. I am particularly fond of great writing in movies. It is interesting that when AFI put together its list of the top 100 movies of all time in 2000 (I think), only something like 5 movies from the 1990's and 4 movies from 1970's were included. The classics from the 30's, 40's and 60's comprised most of the list. Certainly, technology improved from 1915 (birth of a nation) to 2000 and there are literally thousands of movies that come out every year. Why did the 1990's only have five? The simple answer is that the true classics stay and remain true classics no matter what the latest, greatest movies are today. Show me a better mystery series than The Thin Man (starting in 1934), would you think Master and Commander stacks up to Captian Blood (1935) or The Sea Hawk (1940, I think)???????? Give me Fred and Ginger in Top Hat (1935), Swing Time (1936) or An American in Paris any day over any dancing movie of the last 30 years. Find me a better movie than Casablanca or The African Queen - Sullivan's Travels, Sergent York, Shadow of a Doubt, The Yearling, It's a Wonderful Life, Kind Hearts and Coronets, Stalag 17, 12 Angry Men, Witness for the Prosecution, Anatomy of a Murder, North by Northwest, Lillies of the Field, Dr Strangelove, The Sound of Music, The Defiant Ones, In the Heat of the Night, A Clockwork Orange, The Lavender Hill Mob, The Godfather 1 and 2, The Sting, Young Frankenstein, the Wizard of Oz, Annie Hall, The Goodbye Girl, Being There, Ghandi, Amadeus and This is Spinal Tap! There - that brings us to about 20 years ago - These are GREAT Movies THAT WILL BE GREAT FOREVER - Now, don't get me wrong - there are movies out now that I love - to name a few - Kill Bill, vol 1, Hero (the Asian movie), Almost Famous, Finding Nemo, The Iron Giant, Toy Story 2, Fargo, Pulp Fiction, The Commitments, Goodfellas, Crimes and Misdemeanors, Chicago, and High Fidelity. I guess what I'm saying is it's a big world out there with room enough for everyone and their preferences. Anyway, thanks for the tip about renting - I'll keep it in mind.
  16. Just came across this thread so sorry for coming in late - to answer your question, YES, THERE IS SOMEONE WHO ONLY PLAYS CLASSIC GAMES - ME!!!!!!! I have two systems, an Atari 2600 with 216 titles and a Sega Genesis with 155 titles. I cannot stand the price of current gaming (and I could not stand it ten years ago). The best thing about rediscovering classic games is that people have scrutinized for 10 - 28 years about which of these games are awful and which ones are the best and why. In addition, I can collect the best titles for $2 each. When they were new, they were anywhere from $50 to $100 (Virtua Racing) and we had no real idea as to what was good and what sucks. Guess what? The same thing is true today, though there are more people talking about which games are good on-line (tho' keep in mind, many of those comments are paid for by the companies in new-age marketing - it is designed to make you think other people think the game is cool , i.e. word of mouth, and get you to spend $50+ on a game that looks great but may not deliver. I'll take Pitfall and Solar Fox any day!
  17. Yeah - I get it - Michael Jackson is good for kids. In fact, my eight-year old just got an invitation to spend the night at the kid-friendly Neverland Ranch where Michael himself offered to tutor my kid on the game himself. The only caveat is that MJ only has one Genesis controller so my child would have to sit in his lap during the tutorial session. What a guy!
  18. The one I've heard about but have never seen on auction or for sale would be Boing! Otherwise, I'm just looking for decent prices on: Road Runner Crazy Climber BMX Airmaster Snoopy & Red Baron Pengo
  19. 7.01 seconds - this game is fund when you do not blow out the engine in the first two seconds!
  20. I am now in the process of re-stocking my sega genesis liabrary. In doing so, I would like to avoid those games for whom the experience is not about gaming but about violence. I was never into the whole fighting genre, before, but there are some games that are so highly rated for genesis (Mortal Kombat, Streets of Rage, Street Fighter, etc.,) that I am curious. What I do not want is to purchase something like "Grand Theft Auto" where the game is defined by (according to an article in the Washington Post this morning) violence to women, hate crimes, and murder all the while trying to work your way up the criminal world hierarchy (has someone been reading my bio?). I must admit that I do not know much about the video game rating system, but does any of the genesis titles fall into the current system or were they off the shelves too soon? I guess I am asking what games I should avoid so my eight-year old doesn't A) shriek in the middle of the night with visions of the apocolypse or B) become completely desensitized to the violence.
  21. Does this game come in automatic for those of us who do not drive stick? I feel like an idiot blowing the engine up before the race starts.
  22. 40.13 seconds This is about the 600th game I started (about the 100th I finished!) and only two times have I gotten under 43 seconds. This game is driving me nuts!
  23. I'm partial to the 2600 version - the playability is still great. Amazing comeback following the debacle of Pac-Man!
