You have a nice collection and at 207 titles, we share many of the same games. However, you are missing some essentials. I won't into the whole list, but I will say one word to you...PLASTICS! - oops, too 'The Graduate' - I will say two words to you - SOLAR FOX.!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How can you have more than 200 hundred titles and be missing what is considered by many to be on eof the top five games of all time? Good muffins, my friend - invest in plastic and for god's sake, buy a copy of Solar Fox before this year is up!

Did your game playing genres changed over time?
silverpoodleman replied to 8th lutz's topic in Classic Console Discussion
That's my only complaint. Unlike Tetris, which in IMHO is one of the top games ever for any system, the pace of Pac-Attack gets way too fast, way too soon. That leads to fairly short games. Tetris allows you to correct mistakes on a regular basis, but you have to wait for a Pac-Man drop or Fairy drop in order to fix mistakes. Still, it is very addictive and I find myself continually going back for more punishment. I also like the puzzle mode, though I'm not exactly sure what the exact rules are - I have the manual, but frankly, it is not terribly helpful. I guess I'll have to look up some FAQ's, Game Guides, or Game Genie Codes. -
Yes, I agree. M's Revenge is a good game - definately one worth getting.

As a born again 2600 owner myself, I know what you are going through. I started collecting 2600 carts in July of this year and within two months aquired more than 220 unique titles, along with a nice library of duplicates. I do not collect as an investment or as a collector, as do others. I am not interested in acquiring Eli's Ladder because it is supposed to be an awful game playing experience and frankly, I have better ideas of how to spend $1,200! For me, retro gaming is about enjoying an incredibly creative and pure gaming experience. Growing up, I only had 14 titles, so I obviously discovered many previously unknown (to me) treats this past year. My short list of required titles for the born again 2600 retro-gamer - keeping in mind I am trying not to list what others have listed: 1. Solar Fox (CBS Electronics) - without question, my favorite video game of all time on any system. The single most addictive game in the history of Atari:cool:  2. Bump'n' Jump (M Network) - This gem is mostly unknown and that is a DAMN SHAME! If you drive on a regular basis and have ever suppressed the urge to knock some idiot off the road, this game is a MUST HAVE!!!!! It is not a race game - it's a RAGE game!!! In fact, the road is straight for the entire game (top to bottom) so you really do not need to worry about steering much - that's one less thing to worry about - so that's good. You score points by knocking other cars off the road and also for jumping (think six million dollar man music) and landing on other cars :rolling::rolling: 3. Indy 500 - Without question, the best two-player game  for the 2600. Of course, you need to purchase the special racing paddles, but you can acquire them cheaply and easily. Do not pass this one up because of the added expense of the paddles. It is worth every cent. 4. Jawbreaker - Pac-Man sucked on the Atari. Frankly, I'm not a huge fan of Ms. Pac-Man and Jr. Pac-Man is too hard to be fun. I guess I tend not to like Pac-"Anything" (until you get Pac-Attack on the Genesis!). Jawbreaker is a simple game that causes baldness, as you rip out your hair trying to outrun the smiley faces. It's cruel and fantastic! 5. Dodge 'Em - This is a classic and no matter what any experienced Atari gamer might tell you, getting past the first screen is incredibly difficult...that is, until you do it. Then it will take you twice as long. Another great two-player game. 6. Bowling - Yet another great two-player game! People apologize for liking this game so much. This is a classic case of a game where the graphics stink, but the game play is great ---> 3 :!: :!: 7. Circus Atari - Another game that is nearly impossible to turn off until you play "one more game!" - even if your spouse is yelling at you to come up for dinner! ("huh? Did somebody say something?") 8. Freeway - This is where people are going to start saying, "What the hell are you smoking?" My response of course is ground up E.T carts that were fermented underground for more than 20 years in NM. This game answers the question why that stupid chicken crossed the road over and over again. This game is brilliant in its simplicity and much more enjoyable than Atari 2600 Frogger (any of the three). Yet another great two-player game.:dunce: 9. KaBoom! - So much for not repeating what others are saying! It is impossible to have a top ten 2600 list that excludes KaBoom! A top game on any list compiled by any living person with an IQ above 30 and who has actually played the game. 10. River Raid - Another all-time game and #10 on my personal top ten. So why not finish with it? So that is my top-10. I keep a stash of 2600 titles which I have separated from the rest of the lot so that I have easy access to the games I play often. Excluding what I mentioned above, those games are: Tapper, Gunfight, Pitfall 2, Cross Force, Beamrider, H.E.R.O., Phoenix, Demon Attack, Tennis, Super Breakout, Megamania, Lost Luggage, Enduro, Dragonfire, Warlords, Turmoil, Taz, Plaque Attack, & Room of Doom. Have a blast accumulating titles and playing these great games!

Did your game playing genres changed over time?
silverpoodleman replied to 8th lutz's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Definately have changed over time. In my second go around with Genesis, I find myself seeking out puzzle games (recent ones I am hooked on include Shove It, Pac Attack, Mega Bomberman, Junction, Klax, Zoop and Zoom!). Sure, I play other systems and genres - shooters, Sports, Platformers, etc., but I'm satisfied to find a good puzzle game that will drive me nuts trying to figure it out. For example, I spent an hour last night playing Shove It. I've been stuck on puzzle 21 for three sessions. For the life of me, I couldn't figure the damn thing out. This morning, I "accidentally" solved it by making what I thought was a mistake, but turned out to be the key to solving the puzzle. Each puzzle provides me with knowledge of yet another tactic I hadn't needed/attempted/figured out, etc., I've also been stuck on Pac-Attack, puzzle 19 for a few days. The thing is that I know I will solve it eventually, without help (yes, I know there are cheat codes out there and I do have the Game Genie as well), and will feel as though I accomplished something while giving the problem-solving portion of my brain a good workout! To toot my own horn, I haven't needed to use the Game Genie yet and I've owned it for four months. I figure one of these days, I'll break it in, but for now, it is collecting dust. -
UPDATE #2 - WHY DID I LOVE THIS GAME??????? I spit in it's gen-er-al die-rection!! Got up to 1,375 BTW, my daughter now HATES this game (well, game 5, anyway). One funny thing is that she BROKE A JOYSTICK while playing HERO. Cut the "stick" right off at the "joy" (the white inside plastic snapped) ------------------------------------------------------------------ My daughter's favorite 2600 game. Frankly, she is better at it than I so when she comes back from a mini-vacation on Friday, I will set her loose! ********UPDATE********* There's some Revisionist History going on here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I missed the part about playing Game 5 and the scoring is, well, quite different from Game 1. So lets say that we'll wipe the 30,000+ score and keep my high of, uh, 800 (after about half an hour and about six hundred games (the sound in my basement went something like this "What??!! Damn! Whatt???????? Arghhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! - Reset -What??!! Damn! Whatt???????? Arghhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! - Reset - What??!! Damn! Whatt???????? Arghhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! - Reset - What??!! Damn! What is the best hand held/portable system?
silverpoodleman replied to silverpoodleman's topic in Classic Console Discussion
***********UPDATE************* I gave my daughter the Nomad and she loved it. Quote "It's probably the best present I've ever gotten. It's amazing because I never knew it existed and I can't put it down!" I should add the fact that I strung her along saying that a handheld that played the actual Sega Genesis games never existed..."BUT WOULDN'T IT BE COOL??? Wouldn't it be cool to be able to play all the games you already have? But alas......" My wife and I have given her some pretty cool gifts over the years (her dollhouse given at age three that she still plays with was probably tops until now), but the look on her face when she opened the box is now imprinted/tatooed on my memory now forever. Good times! Even the digital camera we gave her yesterday is better than ours, but the Nomad topped it. Thank you to all who helped make this possible by supplying me with the info. Happy Holidays! -
Has there ever been a video or arcade game based on Star Blazers or its original source, the Japanese series, Space Battleship Yamato? It originally aired in the US in 1978, had three seasons (Quest for Iscandar, The Comet Empire and The Bolar Wars) and five movies (Space Battleship Yamato, Arrivederci Yamato, Yamato New Journey, Be Forever Yamato and Final Yamato [i think the order is wrong here though + the English titles are somewhat different]). As a kid growing up with the Star Force (the name of the people aboard the Argo [the Argo is the English name of the Yamato - yes, it gets confusing in the translation]), this was the ultimate anime/cartoon. Earth has 365 days until it is destroyed. A lone ship armed with alien technology is sent on a hail mary mission to Iscandar (some 144,000 light years from earth) to retreive a machine that will save the earth (well, that's series 1 anyway). The uniforms had big arrows up the chest and bell bottoms - the animation is time appropriate, meaning it stinks - the music is the best for any cartoon/anime series ever - the countdown to earth's destruction at the end of each episode is priceless ("Hurry Star Force. Earth only has 278 days until all life on Earth will be destroyed" or something like that) - and most importantly, the hokiness factor combined with great battles/battle speak ("Turn Argo 340 by 120" - "Lock Upper Gun turrets and fire at 10,000 Megameters!" etc., In other words, it was cool for a 10 year old!!!), hokie dialouge ("Didn't think I coud do it, did you, Wildstar?"), unbelievable characters (Dr. Sane - enough said!), death, chicks who make Barbie looks fat, and passion (yes, you heard me, PASSION), make this one of the all-time great shows to watch/own. Given that and the timing of the video gamings emmergance into home gaming, I would have thought a video game based on this series would have been inevitable. I thought I once heard there was going to be something on SNES called Yamato or Space Battleship Yamato, but I cannot find anything. Does anyone have any info on this? You may notice that the icon to the left is Leader Desslock of the Gamilon Empire. If you do not know about Star Blazers/Space Battleship Yamato, shame on you! I find it funny how many people apologize for liking 2600 Bowling! Then again, I do the same thing, so.........

The time has come to admit that I am a closet bowler. There - I'm out (what a weight off!) Mind you, I haven't actually thrown a bowl since 1980 - that is when my feet grew to size 14EEE and I could not fit into those lovely rental bowling shoes. Now, at 16EEEEE, it is difficult to even find a specialty place to make a shoe (or two) even if I wanted to buy them. But I digress... From the moment I picked up the Atari 2600 Bowling, I was hooked (as it were). Soon, 300 games were the norm. While I could never best my father in real bowling, I went undefeated hurling a large, square ball into ten smaller squares. The graphics sucked, but the two-player rivarly was great. My kid and I play this game all the time and still have lots of fun. I have played some pretty bad bowling games in my time, but I am wondering what is the best bowling game out there? I think that Championship Bowling on the Genesis is pretty damn good, but I am hoping there is something better out there - classic or new - Anyone?

Christmas Gaming Memories
silverpoodleman replied to dr. kwack's topic in Classic Console Discussion
1980 Holiday Season - Atari 2600 that came with Pong. I also got Space Invaders, Home Run, Basketball and Breakout. It was a very happy New Year indeed! UPDATE - I just remembered - It was fun until my two older sisters commandeered the TV to watch General Hospital. Usually, the argument was who got to watch TV at 3:00 p.m. (they with GH and me with StarBlazers: The Quest for Iscandar) - My argument was that I should be able to watch my show for 1/2 hour from 3:00 - 3:30 and then they could watch GH from 3:30 - 4:00. But when you are out-aged by brutal older sisters, the best I could do was let them watch GH while I ransacked their rooms and read/edited their diaries (oh yeah, good memories!) With the addition of the VCS, gaming atopped at 2:59 and diary memorization for future blackmail use started at roughly the same time. -
What is the best hand held/portable system?

You are correct, but I agree with you - I don't like emulation either - whoever left the sex analogy had me LMAO! I was thinking the same thing - but I would never admit I've had relations with an inflatable Dolly Parton...or would I? -
What is the best hand held/portable system?
silverpoodleman replied to silverpoodleman's topic in Classic Console Discussion
For my 9-year old, portable means in the car, in her room, on vacation or at relatives and friends houses. The reason I am getting the DC adapter and car adapter is because it drains batteries. Let me get this straight - my daughter's favorite games are now available to her anywhere she wants and this is a bad thing? I'm not quite sure I get your logic there, chief. -
UPDATE - 43!

What is the best hand held/portable system?
silverpoodleman replied to silverpoodleman's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Update - I picked up a Nomad on ebay. The selection was somewhat limited. Many were selling for $150+ and came with games. Since I have more than 400 sega Genesis titles (and close to 70 duplicate titles - anyone interested?) I was only looking for the basic system. What I got was the Sega Nomad system (just the unit) and the battery pack (the one that takes the AA batteries). The screen is perfect - no scratches! I plugged in her favorite game (Ristar) and played for about an hour and am totally hooked! I know this is bigger and bulkier than the newer systems - hell, it makes my original gameboy look tiny - but the picture and playability (hell, even the sound) are fantastic. Plus, I have a rather detailed library of games. I need to find a car power adapter and carrying case (so the screen doesn't scratch. Also, I was under the belief that the DC power cord that comes with the Genesis system would work with the Nomad. Neither of the two that I have work. Is there a separate power adapter for the Nomad? I know my daughter will love the Nomad. In fact, a few days before the holidays, I am going to take RISTAR and wrap it with the Nomad. She will go crazy trying to find it. When she opens it in front of her cousins, grandparents, Aunts and uncles, it should be a sight! Thanks to everyone who contributed suggestions and information. -

I am happy that this thread didn't wind up ending with the author of the original post coming back after a few days and saying "I was just joking, you fools!! Ha ha ha! Boy, you all sure fell for it!" We have seen too many of those (mostly about people finding rare carts @ Goodwill or a garage sale, sending in a poor photo of stacked common carts with Eli's Ladder tucked away neatly at the bottom - remember that one?).
