I too, have not played the Intellivision version either, but the 2600 version is a pretty good game. However, it has one major flaw - When you throw the disc at your enemies, it is deadly, However, after the disc hits off the wall and comes back to you it is not deadly to your enemies. In fact, it will just pass through them (???). I never understood that. If I shot you with a gun that shoots rubber bullets. The bullet went through you, bounced off a wall and and came at your friend, it would hit him as well. I've heard the explanation that in TDD the disc flies over everyone on the way back too the thrower, but I think that is a rationalization of a missed opportunity. I believe had this one feature been added, it would have been a classic game.

The recent poll that "ranked" the Best Atari Titles got many of us thinking - about data collection methodology, the fact that Adventure always wins these polls, What games didn't make the cut, etc., When I looked at the list, I realized that while many of these games are indeed great (and I have played them all in the past four months, only two of them has spent a large amount of time in my VCS as of late (Circus Atari & INDY 500). I'm not exactly sure what that means - perhaps I need to spend more time playing the classics (i.e., the ones on that list) for me to better enjoy them - perhaps these games are great b/c they meant so much to us long ago, even if we do not play them so much today - perhaps that list would dramatically change with the inclusion of non-atari-made games (actually, that is a definite). I guess I am curious about which five games you have spent the most time playing this past year (the last twelve months). I'm not doing this as means of collecting data, but rather as a means to look past the attempts to get one's favorite game recognized as the "Best" and see what hardcore 2600ers actually spend the most time playing. For me: 1) Solar Fox - played more than any other 100 games combined. Can you say HOOKED? 2) Bump 'n' Jump - there is something about ramming cars into walls and jumping on top of them, like the KITT 2000. I also love killing those skull cars 3) Super Breakout - I only play Games 7 where the wall slowly and then quickly descends 4) River Raid - My daughter loved this game from the minute I bought it. The first time I played it, she beat the snot out of me. I stayed up late nights practicing and soon was beating her by 50,000 points. She is now much more interested in playing Othello with me 5) Circus Atari If I were to get hooked on any other game, it would have to be this. All you have to do is clear the red row and you get a free man? I'm playing one game for hours here boys! (For those of you who are sick of these type questions, please feel free to skip this. I haven't seen a question like this yet, on these forums - they all tend to be, what five games would you bring on a desserted island, what are the best games ever, what are the best Holy Grail finds, etc. This question asks what you have spent the most time playing in the past twelve months )

Thought I'd relate an ebay auction that sky rocketed in the last few minutes last night. The auction was for 140 atari 2600 manuals (many were dupes). The auction started on 10/8/05 with a starting price of $9.99. There was very little movement until somebody posted a bid of $12.52 on 10/11. I figured it would be a good deal at $20, so I decided to watched it last night and make a late bid if the price was reasonable. With about 20 minutes left, the bid went up to $14 and a minute later $15. That's when the fun started - with seven minutes left, the price went to $25.01 and with less than a minute, it went up to $50!!! I quickly said, "No Thank You!" and watched in amazement as six seconds later the bid was $70.99. Finally, with three seconds left, someone came in and swiped the lot with a bid of $71.99. Boy, someone really, REALLY wanted those manuals!!!!!

The following list represents the (updated) Genesis games I have not been able to acquire at a reasonable price (thank you for all who have responded and taken advantage of my wallet and good nature to help reduce this list) Herzog Zwei Asterix and the Power of the Gods Alien Solider Shining Force II Warsong Langrisser Langrisser 2 StarFlight Star Control Master of Monsters Out of this World Puggsy Genesis mouse for Wacky World Populous the "light gun" that comes with the Menacer 6 Game Cartridge Vapor Trail Immortal, The I would love to own any of these so if you have them and would like to get rid of the then I'm your man. Please PM me and we can talk pricing, quality, whether they are loose/complete, the weather, etc., Offer me a reasonable price, I'll call you a crook and low-ball you, you'll yell at me and call me a dreamer. Eventually, we'll either agree or not and then go back to our meaningless lives. Thanks Marc

It would be interesting to do a poll like this for games with a rarity of 5 or more (as deemed by the fine folks at Atariage.com). As for this poll, I sure wish I could get into Adventure but I've tried and tried and tried and I just do not find it compelling - sorry, Adventure maniacs. As for the games in this list, its a tie between INDY 500 and Circus Atari.

I think they would have limped along until 1987 getting by with Mother-in-Law Pac-Man, Illegitimate Pac-Child: The Bastard, Pac-Man: The Fetus, ET 2, ET 3, and Return of the Titanic and then spent $50 million on the video game rights to Ishtar. Ishtar, the video game, would have been pushed to market before it was ready so that an estimated 10 million units could be on the shelves in time for the holiday season. After endlessly debating about what genre "Ish" would be (ultimately, 'sports' won out), only three little weeks were given to the boys in development. The public was dissappointed when they received a game that, when turned on, blinked "12:00" over and over again. Record number of returns forced the name change of Atari to SPLATARI. The new name reflected the sound made by the project leaders of Ishtar who leapt to their death from the top floor of Atari One after initial sales projections of Ishtar hit the fan. The remaining executives were driven to New Mexico under the cover of darkness, ground to a pulp along with the Ishtar cartridges and buried under three feet of concrete. The offices of Splatari eventually became the corporate offices of White Water Investment Services. It freaks you out to think what could have been!

what makes an elite gamer/collector?

I think I love you. 946975 Better make it a 3-way, then. I don't like the labels, either. What the original poster meant to ask is: 947018 ORGY!!! -
what makes an elite gamer/collector?
silverpoodleman replied to JagFan422's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Does the same thing apply with pinball machines or is that a different animal? Between my systems, I have seven video pinball games so it would seem to apply. Of course, I guess I leveled down since I bought my beloved, sentimentally-inspired-yet-awesome-nonetheless Williams Space Shuttle Pinball before I started my recent forray into video gaming. This makes sense since I do everything else backwards too! -

Cool - then I'm a Genuine Collector! I've never been a Genuine "anything" before, except for possibly a Genuine A**hole! -
14,550 I LOVE JAWBREAKER AS THIS WEEKS CHOICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is one of our favorite games. I'm really curious to see how good people are at this. Question - I haven't read the manual, but I assume there is something in there about my guy getting slower and their guys getting faster. By the 3rd screen, it starts to feel like I am jogging and they are running - By the 5th screen, it feels like I am walking and they are sprinting!:idea:TIP ALERT TIP ALERT TIP ALERT TIP ALERT TIP ALERT TIP ALERT TIP ALERT TIP ALERT :idea: Another Tip - if possible, try to avoider going up and down the screen on the sides because you will get blind sided by a smiley face you do not even see b/c it is just enetering the screen from the side. Only use the side if you are going up/down and you can see the SFace already on the field of play. Otherwise, use the trap doors. It takes longer, but it is much safer.

Genesis Game Genie Question
silverpoodleman replied to silverpoodleman's topic in Classic Console Discussion
http://gamegenie.com/cheats/gamegenie/genesis/index.shtml 946494 THANK YOU -
I feel like an idiot asking this question, but here it goes. I was able to pick up a Game Genie for Genesis for $2 today. Never having used it, I understand this makes the genny games (produced before a certain date) better. How? I do not know. Also, it came with just the cart, not manual/book. Is that a problem? If so, where can I pick one up? I looked on ebay and there were no listings for just the book. Thanks

Solaris is the best on this list, but not in my top thirty (ha!). Midnight magic is cool aand I do not have off the wall yet (one of the few I still want that I don't have).

Jr. Pac-man - This game totally kicks MY ass! It so represents life (here we go again). The more we eat, the more we slow down and the ghosts come to get us. A couple of interesting things that I am realizing by doing these polls. First, I'm just gonna hafta rank my favorie games. I want my own Top 100 like, it appears, everyone else has! Second, have you noticed that the following statement has appeared in every poll here? "There are so many great games here. It is hard to choose" or "three of these games are in my personal top ten" - I think that means that these polls are being answered by people who, when it comes down to it, simply love the 2600 and many, MANY of its games. I think that is very neat, if not so profound.

My daughter is upset that she didn't get to vote in the 1st three rounds. So I gave her this vote and she chose Jungle Hunt. She likes it better than Pitfall or Pitfall 2 in that the variety is there - swimming, swinging from more than one vine, punching crocs on the nose - not just jumping over things. If I were to choose, it would have been Phoenix. E.T. was, uh, last.
