I won VR on ebay a few weeks ago. It should be here any day. Can I assume there is no steering wheel controller for the sega? I've never seen one. In fact, do you know of a resource on the web, similar to, but vastly inferior to (of course) atariage.com? I'd like to get more info on the games (aside from GameFAQs), the other accesories and info on Game Genie.

Agreed - What ever happened to having three lives? I guess they did that to make it as unique as the game and as challenging. At least with the stage jumpers, at least you can play the whole game

At this point, I feel the need to again list my 2, that's right boys, T-W-O games systems. 2600 genny I'm not monogamous, but at least I only stray with one other. And the cool thing is that they sleep together as well! -
Came across a near mint copy of Hard Drivin' yesterday for $1.99. I played it a few times. Not too bad. I'll have to track down the manual or the instructions and find that cow. I kept drivin' off the road which is frustrating and pretty funny. I did enjoy crashing into buildings as the first-person crash was very funny. I'll play itt some more and see if it approaches 2600's Bump 'n' Jump which is my favorite driving game.

My genny and ten or so games sat on a shelf for about eight years before I plugged it in again. At the time, I started researching and acquiring the games I never felt good about spending money on. So now I have 150+ genny carts, the ones that were well regarded as being among the best of the 16-bit era. The funny thing is that I keep coming back to the ten games or so that I had originally. I guess my whole take on this is that you have to pick a game and commit to it - I certainly need to do this with my newer games. I've been playing Comix Zone for the past week and even so, I have to stop myself from switching games every five minutes. That is true with Genesis or any game system. By all accounts, Genesis and SNES were neck and neck in the 16-bit era. Each has their fans, but it seems that any game system is what you make of it. If you commit to the game and get everything out of it (someone mentioned above that they squeezed every penny out of the $50 they spent on Hard Driving). Genesis has many great and many good options in which to commit your time. It is worth keeping out as long as you can connect with the game. One last thing, I have found that most of these games play better as a two-player experience rather than playing alone. This is certainly true with the Genny sports games. But if you are looking for magic when you turn on the genny, I do not think you will find it. That only happens with the 2600.

Good Lord! I feel like a novice when I look at the lists above! Ok - here is my list 2600 Sega Genesis ("That's it! That's the list." tony k.Pardon the Interruption) -
Came out in the US in 1995. I've been playing it all week. There is a good review from the Video Game Critic who says "Comix Zone is an extremely original and visually impressive game which immerses you in a comic book world. It's probably one of the coolest games I've ever seen on the Genesis. The idea behind it is that the comic's author has magically switched places with the book's villain. Your hero moves from frame to frame and page to page as a large hand draws new villains for you to fight. The remarkable graphics are nearly comic book quality, with bubbles of dialog that appear every so often. Gameplay involves fighting monsters, picking up objects, and opening new areas. The game also features some kick-ass music and multiple pathways. The biggest problem with Comix Zone is its lack of continues. One misstep off a ledge and it's game over, no matter how well you've done up to that point. Still, I think this is a highly underrated game." While the Instant Death thing is true - and sucks, there are some cool cheats such as - Stage Select Go to the jukebox mode and place the red checker on the following numbers in order, pressing C at each one: 14, 15, 18, 5, 13, 1, 3, 18, 15, 6. Now, highlight a number from 1 to 6 and press C to warp to the corresponding stage Unlimited Health If you want unlimited go to jukebox in the options menu and push C on these numbers.3, 12,17,2, 2, 10, 2, 7, 7,11.You should hear skecth say ''oh yeah''

Boxed Sega Genesis?
silverpoodleman replied to RickHarrisMaine's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I think you overpaid for the system and game, but it's not like you spent the kids college funds. I would have offered $5 using the argument that it is a 15 year old system with only one game! I recently paid $18.50 for a mint-condition complete Genesis console, 2 regular controllers, one six-button conroller and the power and TV chords. On top of that, I got 35 mint-condition games, most in boxes and 18 had the original instructions. None of the games needed to be cleaned, nor did they have stickers on the carts from stores where they were bought and none of them were prior rentals. Admittedly, I got a good deal. The good news is that your unit is in great shape and ready to be played - either by you or by whomever you sell it to. Were I you, I'd look for 'lots' of Genesis games on ebay. If you are looking to sell, a group of 20 or so games bolsters your position for more money (I use the argument that classic games are classic games no matter when they are played - by buying now, you get the best of the Genny games for $1 to $5 as opposed to an average of $50 ten years ago). If you bought the system for yourself it is even better!. You are starting off with a blank slate. Buy a Genny lot on ebay and start having fun. There is a thread started last week by someone wanting to know what the best Genny games were. That is an excellent place to start. http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=77270 -
BTW, if you are looking for a good place to buy Genny's, Game Crazy is a Video Game store literally next door to the Hollywood Video stores. GC sells all the new stuff, but they have a decent collection of Genesis games as well (they buy and sell used video games). I have two of these stores near me - one displays the Genny's and the other had them in a box behind the counter. There are a ton (literally) of sports games (as we know, there were 6,962,879 different sport titles under the Genesis label) so a good 2/3rds of the games were sports. The good news about that is that I was able to complete my madden, nhl hockey and nba live holes for $0.99 to $2.99 each. My suggestion is to go there when the high schools are likely to be in session (as the next generation tends to congregate - take an early/late lunch) and go with 2 copies of the list of games you are looking for. Give one to the clerk (who'll check their inventory via computer) and take the other to the games you are looking through. I'll tell you one other hint - make a list of games you do not want so that you do not accidentally think you hit the motherload and get pissed off when you get home. There are so many Genny games and if you do research to find out what games are good and bad, the same ones keep coming up over and over again. However, if you haven't played them, they are just titles, which can get confused. Don't laugh too hard. My friend "Hoagie" (real name changed at his request) did this! He wanted the best Batman Genny (which is generally regarded to be Batman Returns - the worst is generally thought to be Batman Forever). When he got to the store, he couldn't remember which was which. They had both and BF was more expensive. He applied the theory that more expensive means better so he bought BF and left BR. Let's say he was pretty pissed. The highlight of the story is that because he, like me, is 10-30 years behind the high-tech-state-of-the-art arc, he ONLY blew $4.99 rather than $49.99 on a crummy game.

This one had a good start, but he shot his load too quickly thus leaving me with a rather bad taste (ok - I just read that last sentence to myself and it was not meant the way it sounds - sorry about that. I'll stop now.).

I chose Indy 500 though I'm sure the "Adventure-Rules!" lobby will work hard to push it through. I am one who readily admits that I simply do not get Adventure and I discovered through a posted thread a few months ago that I am not alone. Yes, I know it was the "best game of all time" and put the RPG world on the TV set, but the fact remains that I never played it as a kid so it doesn't hold any sentementality for me. I LOVE the 360-degree-controllers used in INDY 500. The added dimension of free-roam movement makes this game unlike any other on the 2600. It is a GREAT two player game and fantastic with groups of people. Not only that, the variety on INDY 500 rocks - of course there are different race tracks and racing on ice, but there is also tag and touch-the-randomly-placed-square-ball-first game which is such a great game for kids and adults. Anyway, INDY 500 RULES!

I was doing a search in this forum and came across a thread with the topic title of "Help, are any of these rare ?" starting 4/22/04. To summarize, a 'newbie' with 13 posts, posted a new topic with a fuzzy picture of some fairly common 2600 carts asking if they were valuable and should she play them. What made it interesting was that hidden under a cart of Enduro one of the carts was the tremendously rare Eli's Ladder (10 rarity, worth $1,200 at the time). Most people thought it was either a fake cart or a doctored picture. But then.....well, I won't spoil anything except to say this this went on for seven pages! It is definately worth your time!!! This thread had everything had everything one would look for in a good page turner - suspicion, doubt, nobility, jealousy, anger, disbelief, doctored documents, amazement, genersity, more doubt, more suspicion, etc., In short, it was wildly entertaining. As a relative newcomer to these hallowed halls, I want to know from those of you who have been around if there are any Topic Titles/threads that really stand out like this one did. In other words, are there classic threads? If so, could you please direct me to them as I would love to read them.

Game Variations Turn the boring back fun again?
silverpoodleman replied to video game addict's topic in Atari 2600
Interestingly enough, when I got back into Atari a four months ago and quickly bought ~220 titles, I seldom tried different variations. I guess step one is trying to master the first one-player game. I know it sounds stupid, but with so many titles with so many options, I wanted to get through each game to get the flavor and pick out the ones that had great replayability. I guess getting the games slowly as a kid (because they cost so much), allowed me to discover ALL the games on one title. You know you only have a few games when you are playing game option 47 of Pong! I think this is a great post! I'd like to hear what game number is the best in people's favorite games. I discovered in the High Score Competitions that I like Game 8 of Activision's skiing better than all the rest. My daughter and I love the Tag game as well as the "get-to-the-square-ball-first" game in INDY 500. It is SO MUCH BETTER than simply circling the track (sorry NASCAR fans!). Also, anyone who has followed my on-going forum contributions know that I think SOLAR FOX is the best 2600 game. My eight-year old daughter was having trouble getting past the third screen. She discovered the kid friendly Game 3 in which there are far fewer shots fired at you. After a few practice sessions, she went back to GAME 1 (or 2 if we played 2-player) and went much further (I think level nine). Again, great topic! -

silverpoodleman replied to silverpoodleman's topic in Classic Console Discussion
My friend, take a deep breath. I did not mean to anger you so. I have the six button Genny controller and I know exactly how many buttons are on the SNES controller. I apologize for ruffling your feathers. Feel free to use either of the following as an excuse --------- exaggeration as sarcasm OR a slip of the finger for someone who was about to fall asleep at his computer. The bottom line is that I never like the SNES controller. For me, it was too small. I am tall (6'7") and have large hands. Frankly the Genesis controller frlt more natural and comfortable to me. -
I Need a SNES Education
silverpoodleman replied to silverpoodleman's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Wow! That was quite the reply. What a thorough answer (I'll be deciphering the first paragraph for the next month, though!) What it did do was confirm that I made thright choice for ME when I bought my first Genny in 1991. I've never been a big RPG fan, though I'm looking for a good one to try on the Genesis to see if my interests have changed in the past fourteen years (I've narrowed it down to Phantasy Star 4 and Landstalker). For some reason, I never connected with the SNES, which, in part, is why I jumped on board with Genesis. I do remember there being quite a few hits and even more misses - titles that sounded good, but when I got home I'd say/yell, "I PAID $30/$40$50/$60 FOR THIS CRAP!!!!!???!??!?!?!?!?!?!" -
I hadn't heard of hrad driving so I looked it up on GameFAQs - Let's just say the reviews don't exactly agree with your experience. http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/genesis/review/586225.html Is it worth buying or is it a better memory than a gaming experience?

I love Atari 2600. I love Sega Genesis. That is the end of my Video Game/System-Love-List. Could someone please tell me the advantage of owning/playing a SNES? Are the games better that the 16-bit Genesis? Are the graphics/sound better and MOST IMPORTANT, IS THE PLAYABILTY (gameplay + replayability) that much better/ different from Genesis? I admit that I have little experience with SNES - a game played here, watching people play, etc., I know that I could never get used to that funky controller - you know the one with 87 buttons. Thanks all who reply!!!!!!!!
